Unhappy Striker ll Formula.... "CPU INIT" of death!

Hi guys,
some of you may remember a while ago that I used to have a Striker extreme MoBo that was Borked and would not POST.
Well, the replacement board that I got was a Striker II Formula, and guess what!!!

Gotta love ASUS!

there I was working away when the OS locked up and didn't want to play anymore, so, I tried to reboot only to be met with "CPU INIT" on the LCD poster screen.
looking through the MoBo manual "cpu init" is the first step in the boot process, so I guess it's failing at the first stage of boot which can only mean DEAD MOBO again.

yes, I have tried clear CMOS, strip down to 1 stick of ram, gpu and HDD but nothing.

My Striker II NSE board gives me the cpuinit sometimes after a rebuild. Check your ram really good and make sure those contacts are good. Once I reseat my ram once or twice it works from there.

I did try to reboot with no RAM expecting the BIOS to go nuts and beep like crazy, but nothing happens, just stays at cpu init.

I was reading around google for you and found two possible issues.....Yea the RAM being one of them mayeb Voltage and the other which I dont think because you were running it is the MB doesnt recognize your CPU. I also saw a long list of things to do to clear your cmos. Have you updated your bios???

Mine gives me cpuinit without ram also. Just clean the contacts really good and try that.

Did you try reseating the CPU as well? It seems to me that if the error is because it doesn't properly recognize the hardware, it may be due to the CPU not making good contact?

ive got two Striker 2 Extremes currently not wanting to play nice... its a fucking prick of a board.

I found this to work:

Clear CMOS
install CPU only and power up
then install one module of ram and power up
Then install HDDS and one GPU
If it posts install remaining ram modules

Sometimes at this point its all good and will be fine until I change the CPU or ram... other times it still wont post and ive gota remove the GPU, power up and reinstall the gpu.

I think these nforce asus boards make better frisbees than mobos

I guess it's just that combo of Asus board and Nvidia chipset that does it...

The more I hear about issues with boards using Nforce chipsets, the more and more happy I am that it took me so damned long to finally put my rig together -- by going straight to X58 I got to skip the shitty Nvidia chipsets....

I can't remember, but if the BIOS chip is a "plug in" type (not hardwired), then press it down with your finger firmly. I had some 680i boards that this worked. Push hard and try to power on.

Also, try unplugging power supply and remove battery for an hour, then put it back together and give it a try.

If this does not work, then try ballz0r's advice above for more drastic action.

Bringing this one back...

Well ive had my main PC down for mods and all so today I went to turn it on after bleeding the loop and all and I get the stupid CPUINIT message.

Last time I had this I didnt have the 8 pin seated all the way. Well no such luck this time. I even used my multimeter and tested every wire on the PSU (all were 100% right)
So now im working on resetting the CMOS and trying to boot with only 1 gpu and one stick of ram.

After looking more into my board it seems I bent a CPU pin...
WTF. I dont even think I took the cpu off but twice and for only a minute or less!

So.... Im trying to bend the pin back and now instead of CPUINIT I get CHIPINIT.
Damn man looks like I might be "forced" to upgrade to i7...

Do you own a magnifying glass? I have bent a few pins in my days and they all have to be in almost the same position they were before. It might take a few try’s but with a nice pointy pick etc.. and a good magnifying glass you should be golden.

Well I amaze myself again.
I got back in there with my picks and LED flashlight and after a bit of poking and prodding looked right. After that I installed the CPU again and tada it worked!
Im actually posting from that machine right now! It only has 1 gig at the moment though.
Oh well no i7 for me
