Default Project: HAF932 rev.WC

The original buildlog is in Dutch: http://www.hardware.info/forum/showthread.php?t=194532
I have decided to make a small buildlog because I realised that it would take more time than I realised.

My system:
CPU: Intel Core i7, 920 @2.67
GPU: XFX GTX280
Mem: OCZ Platinum 6GB DDR3 1600Mhz
Motherboard: Gigabyte X58-UD5
HD: WD Caviar Blue 640GB
Power: CM M850
Cooling: Noctua U12P SE1366
Case: CM HAF 932

This is what I have ordered:

29 July
I had to get the pakkage from my neighbour because I was on vacation in Normandy when the pakkage arrived.

30 July

I have just as made a couple photographs of the Heatkiller LT.
I intend to remove the distributor plate today.

finally :

I've just mounted some of the intersections( or how do u call that ) on the pump.

I've also mounted the fill-port:

31 July

I have cleaned the radiator:

First some actions to prevent scratches:

First is cleaned with normal hot water.

no radflux = good

Then I recleaned 2x with demineralised water.

But when I removed the tape:

XSPC had problems with their shiny black paint, this is why they switched to matt black, but apparently the paint is not that strong on the edges.

You don't seem to want to accept the fact you're dealing with an expert in guerrilla warfare, with a man who's the best, with guns, with knives, with his bare hands. A man who's been trained to ignore pain, ignore weather, to live off the land, to eat things that would make a billy goat puke. At RRTECH his job is to dispose of enemy personnel. To kill! Period! Win by attrition. Well EIGHTLUG is the best.

yeah my rx240 has a few chips too that I have no idea how they happened.
The paint on them just sucks, but they are indeed a great rad.

Maybe strip the rad and repaint?
There is a trend beginning where people are painting their rads. Maybe if you have the time, you should go for it. Just mask the fins.

repaint the rad... depending on color theme of your build.

The paint comes off very easily. The only thing it really sticks too is the solder.

1 August

First I have connected all the fans to see if they work, and they do

I've unpacked the Heatkiller and mounted the fittings.

fitting:

Everything out of the case:

First attempt to mount the radiator:

Okay, that didn't work out as I hoped. Lets mount the Heatkiller first.

The assembly is very easy but it comes only in a German manual, "Deutsch"

After some work and an extra pair of hands the radiator went in.

Then I was starting to think about where the hoses should go and actually this is the most difficult part

In the end it's very hard and I have to buy a 90° fitting

When I was filling the loop I got a leak:

The connection between the T and the crane wasn't waterproof so I had to put some Teflon on it. Result = no leak (at least thats what I thought)

So back to filling...

This time it leaked between the rotary and the pump.

Apparently the rotary wasn't fully in the pump. I screwed it in with full force and again the leak was gone.

Then I tried to get the air out, took me 2 hours.

Now I've got only this :

I forgot I had a log here so:

UPDATE

I saw that there was a kink in the tubes because of cramped pumpmounting.
So I ordered this:

Problem solved:

But now I can't mount a DVD drive.
I need something else
I want to mount the pump on the same height as the PSU, but not on the floor because I want to use a drain valve.

Have I said already that my temps really sucked?? Even worse than my U12P...

This is the reason:

The Heatkiller was "leaning" on the capacitors which caused bad contact.
Solution?
Mount is horizontally

The temps were better but not as good as now.

My solution for the pumpmounting?

Then clue for what comes next:

A moment later....

I didn't like the paint of the UN Bracket, it had to much shine

Next step was the case:
The paint on the HAF is very sturdy.
This is after 1 hour with paint-stripper:

Just a waste of time. I sand better in that amount of time.

I didn't make that much photo's during the sanding because my hands were very dirty

And these are the results:

The other photo's are really bad because of the flash. U can see stripes that aren't really there
I have yet to master the skill of photography.

FINAL UPDATE

I had ordered a Thermochill shroud to box the fans in so u could only see the red lights thru the fan blades and not the sides.

Thats how I received it from It-Service. The package was decently packed and wasn't even damaged so I have no clue how it could be deformed like that. Anyway I took this matter to It-Service with this photo and they sent me another one cost free.
Very good service

I also ordered a 140mm Dust-filter for the rear fan. It's now sucking in fresh air for the radiator.

My first thought was to use a Radgrill, thats why I ordered this one:

Eventually I only used the 35mm hex screws because the grill was to large.
My mistake: I didn't noticed that the grill was bigger than 3x 120mm fans and therefore blocking the radiators inlet and outlet.

This is the pump-mount:

Here still with foam underneath the pump. I had to remove it because the pump was out of balance.

When I saw this I wanted to make some better pics. Hopefully they are

Exterior:

Without side-panel:

Interior:

This is the shroud + 3 dustfilters:

Nice paint, good clean layout and a sharp looking build. What's not to like? Great job and glad to see it finally come together.

Congrats on a great build

I use a very small flat screwdriver to fumble the pins out of the connector, the smallest of a mini screwdriverset, like the ones you use for electricity etc...

put it in on one side, turn around, get in onthe other side, turn aroud, remove the screwriver, pull the cable, and jipee, the wire is out and ready to be sleeved
