Exclusive to R3 Tech,
Just thought I'd post some shots of the new bench. I believe Gary over at Sidewinders (which is the only shop that carries them) is going to do a full review, so I don't want to step on his toes. But here's a preview.
Great packaging, and a great looking bench with functionality in mind. I'll know more once I get it outfitted, which will be a few days until I get my build done.
Here's some shots,

No group buy hear as Im only allowed to buy for myself. Also I can only buy one type of each technology of processors per year. So far Ive gotten QX9650 and plan on getting the Extreme I7 when it comes available but I did just pick up some SSD's though and cant wait to test them. To bad I cant share the wealth Im a kinda buy the book kinda guy.

No problem, your all very much welcome:up:
Be glad box is the size it is if you decide to get one. These things come all the way from overseas via a ship, then shipped to Gary once on shore.
It's already assembled and everything, all very well packed, which is a must for something like this IMO.
andyc
very true.. problem is that from Gary to brazil, the bigger the box, the more taxes I pay once the bastards at customs get their hands on it. I was hoping (dreaming) for a small, indestructible box :p
but no doubt, that kind of packaging would make sleeping easier while watching the tracking info
and I want one so bad...ever since I saw the very first pic, I just can't get used to the idea of having a bench setup near my cat.. she is just too crazy to be near open/running electronics.. it just sounds like a bad idea lol

The layout seems fine, and they give you a ton of m3 and 6/32 thumb screws. I mean like 50 each. Build quality seem exceptional for what it is, but I'll need to see how it holds up in general with the acrylic being the main component.
You can attach either a TC or ST type rad to the back (even up to a 480 size it would appear), and there's a tray beteen the MB and rad for mounting pump or waht ever else you want. All the drive bays and PSU cage are removable.
My first suggestion would be to make sure the 3.5 devices and PSU are installed first before setting the MB. That will help with ridgidity and acrylic bearing the load.
I haven't really had time to get in there and mess with it, more later.

I'm very impressed, much more sturdy than I thought it would be. The acrylic is very thick. I've treated it just like any other bench and it's held up perfectly. Very versatile also, with some great features like the way the rad mounts. Only thing I don't really like is the rod like card holders/screws, but they do work, just a small pain in the ass.
Here a pic of it set up with my new beloved MO RA rad:D

Is the spacing for the rad compatible the TC rads? Its looks like you have one mounted....
mcoffey
04-12-2009, 12:06 AM
Yep that's a PA, the hole spacing is off, but not a problem if you connect the rad to the 4 center fans holes only, and have the fans pointed out towards the back. Works perfectly then.

They're worth the wait. I was lucky and tracked them like a hawk when Gary was first getting them. I may have been the very first person to get one.
Just can't beat the removable MB tray either when testing. Pretty cool unit, and totally portable if you need to move to another testing area. Once you get everything connected, you can pick the entire bench up and move it to another place without having to worry about dragging this or that around.

Yep...1000 Strider.. and yeah, I'd love to be able to find those reset/power buttons for a build.
I hear about the wiring, but when pulling stuff in and out, removing MB, cards, etc..probably wouldn't last long. I change things around about every 3-4 days, so I try and make it as easy as possible. But if I were to do a open air build with one, which would be fantastic, I'd dress it up nice and tidy with some trick wiring.

Time to stomp this bitch a little. Everything's prepped up for some GPU over volting. Added a TX 750 just for GPU power. Should work fine since it's a single rail. Also added a S-Flex G series fan so some cool air will blow down thru/over the cards.

04-20-2009, 02:46 PM
Oh man,
The SW over volting is definitely working. Just kicked it up from 1.04 to 1.15 volts. Got stable clocks as listed running Furmark. Before sometimes I could get it to pass 3DMark 05-06, sometimes not. I could never get Furmark to run stable.
Now with the slight voltage increase, everything's solid, but you can see the need for a high end cooling system and power source. GPU temp jumped up around 6-8c, VRM temps went way up, and the amp draw jumped around 15-17 amps (if in fact Everest is reporting correctly). I still have my concerns about the DD block offering good VRM cooling, but don't have any other reference. In my mind, VRM cooling would be crucial for GPU overvolting, but maybe they're still well within range.
Good thing these cards and blocks are warrantied by BFG for life:D
Here's some shots.

http://home.comcast.net/~mcoffey22/pwpimages/Microsoft%20Word%20Document%204202009%2023814%20PM .jpg
More to come later. Got pretty exciting. Once Furmark got going, I had to kick the fans and cooling system up to 100% as I saw temps start to climb. Then the PSU fans started spinning at 100%.
I flat had this bitch rolling, and I loved every second of it. Without a doubt, the most fun I've had benching and testing.
And thanks to ballz0r for the link to the Rivatuner overvolting setup. Really help cut sown the confusion and searching.

I had a mother of a time getting 28K+ with mine but you got water and that sweet rig.
I like that bench and look forward to more posts and results.
I used the Evga tool to add a little voltage but not to much, the heat was my brickwall,
i put two tornadoes on the gtx295's to get more air blowing thru and got an extra 5 degrees out of them.
Plus it was a cool night so that helped.

LOL...yeah..They're the one's that picked the DD blocks and slapped um on there, so if something goes pooffffffffff..it's on them.
Did you get a chance to check what your VRM temps were when running on stock air??
And really, even with twin 295's, GPU scores are CPU clock bound more than anything else.

I'll have to do a pass with Everest logging on to see just how the temps went. I never run anything when I'm going for a Mark, as soon as I saw it boot at 4.5, I loaded up and fired off 3DMark-O6 for a run. I was really shocked it completed, and was so excited to capture a screen shot, I didn't do anything else.
I'll do some more tomorrow and get some good data.

I was able to up it a tad, and log some temps using Everest with Furmark running.
Pictures say it all. Twin GTX 295's and a i7 920 at 4.5 on LC

Here's some Furmark action.

Here's a shot of the Everest logs. Check out the amp draws off these 295's with a 1.20v over volting. GPU's temps hung in there pretty good. VRM temps sort of have me concerned, but I ran Furmark for 10 minutes before the screen shots, and it was rock solid. The Aux GPU PSU's fan started spinning at 100%, and that's when I got on the edge of my seat.

I'm almost positive I can get it well over 30k with XP, or at least I'm hoping to.
And thanks for all the encouragement everyone,
