So now that I'm all but done with Formal Black (aka Simplicity), I'm starting to plan out my next build. Still not going i7 with this one for the sake of the lack of parts/mounts available for it just yet, but this build will be a step beyond what I built last time.

Here's the parts I've got down for this build:

The Guts:

CPU: Stepping up to the Extreme Edition, QX9650 as opposed to the Q9650 in Simplicity
Ram: Stepping up to 8gb DDR PC20000 instead of 4gb
GPU: Sticking with Dual 4870x2's unless Nvidia impresses me with the 295's/230's
MOBO: Asus Rampage Extreme
PSU: FUFUFUFUFUFUFUFU 1300watt Water Cooled PSU
PSU2: Meanwell PSU

The Skeleton:

Case: Mountain Mods Ascended Extension
Case Secondary: Mountain Mods Pedestal 24
Mods: Lots of cutting and drilling, and I have a company who will be giving a lot of the parts inside this case a copper plating, and I will be having some parts CNC'd for me out of solid copper.

The Goodies:

Rads: 6 Thermochil 120.3 Rads, 5 HWLabs Black Ice GTX480 Rads (thats right, 11 rads total)
Pumps: 3x Iwaki RD-30 (in custom copper enclosure) - mounted in Pedestal
Res's: 3x EK 120 Multi-option Res's (mounted horizontally on floor of case)
CPU Block: AC 775 Block
GPU Blocks: AC 4870x2 FC Blocks
MOBO Blocks: MIPS Rampage Extreme MOBO Cooling Block Set
Tubing: Tygon R3400 black UV resistant tubing.
Fittings: All BP Compression fittings with blatant over-use of 45, 90, and rotary fittings, as well as BP fill and drain ports.
Fans: 40 Delta Extreme High Speed 120x38 fans.
Fan Controlling: ??Wtf Can Control 40 Deltas??

Loops:

Loop 1: Res > Iwaki > GTX480 > GTX480 > 120.3 > 120.3 > CPU > Res
Loop 2: Res > Iwaki > GTX480 > GTX480 > 120.3 > 120.3 > 4870x2 > 4870x2 > Res
Loop 3: Res > Iwaki > GTX480 > 120.3 > 120.3 > NB/SB > Mosfet 1 > Mosfet 2 > Res

Budget: $7,500

You'll need a lot of pots, and some basic electronic know how, to make your own fan controller for that many fans.

Cutless009
12-22-2008, 12:42 AM
Im thinking 5x 200watt 7amp pots.... with possible some custom water blocks to keep them cool? and tie them in to the motherboard loop?

Oh yah and just so you know all the fans will be running off of a dedicated 1000watt PSU.

Langer
12-22-2008, 01:17 AM
run with it.

Cutless009
12-22-2008, 01:24 AM
Lol holy shit I just realized that all those fans are going to draw ~1200watts all on their own! Maybe I'll just throw two of those FUFUFUFUFUFUFUFU PSU's in there! HAHA OMG 2400watts of pure madness! MUAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

Plus the 300watt Meanwell to run the 3 Iwakis, thats almost 3 kilowatts of power this sucker is gonna draw!

Cutless009
12-22-2008, 06:13 AM
So I ran the numbers for Rheostats, definitely a no go, even a 1,000watt Rheo only puts out 31a, I need 41a to run the number of fans per channel I want, and at 1kw they are 9in across (in other words 2 = width of Ascension), and cost $250 per, so ya no....

Going with the old standby 7/12v switch w/ off position and I'll put in like 5 of them (one for the side, one for the front, one for the back, one for the two sides of the pedestal, and one for the front and back of the pedestal). That oughta put a bit of tame into those deltas!

ballz0r
12-22-2008, 06:29 AM
come on.... we have to be able to turn a concept this extreme into a reality.

I have some 150w rheostats I bought from ebay u can buy... perhaps you can split up the fans

the rhostats are:

MEMCOR TYPE R-150 RHEOSTAT/ROTARY SWITCH.

150 Watts
Insulated for 300 Volts
2 OHM
8.66 AMP
Measures about 4 inches across the top and about 1 1/2 inches high
what are the specs on your deltas?

Cutless009
12-22-2008, 06:38 AM
29.40 watts, 2.45 amps, 12v

Adds up quick ^_^ Esp when ur chaining 4 of them together at a time :P

Here's a quick render of the concept image Im working on atm, the front has 4x 120.3, the side has 4x 120x4, the back is going to have 1x 120.3, and the pedestal is going to have 2x 120.3 and 2x 120x4

http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z6/Cutless1/Project%20Murdered%20Elegance/1.jpg

P.S. that pushes the count of fans up to 44.

Yes, I am insane, no, there's nothing you can do about it.

The tubing between the video card and the reservoir can have a nice curve without a fitting so you can remove this one. Same for the 90 degre fitting from the middle reservoir to the floor, which can be remove to have a smooth curve.

I truely cherish the effort you are putting into this but c'mon. a computer wich fans alone draw 1400 watts is really insensate! okay, you're living in the US of A where energy costs are more reasonable than over here in europe but stil it makes no sense. 5 Ghz so what. My MacPro has 8 times 2,8Ghz is rockstable and abolutely silent. it has 2 fans. power consumption is about 300 watts or something?

well maybe it's just me but i find this more than obsolete. "
