Project: H2O3D
http://www.coolercases.co.uk/cpu3d/cpu3d_logo.jpg
A little background...
For some time now, Multiplay i series (http://iseries.multiplay.co.uk/) evolved into the biggest gamming event on the calendar here in the UK and as Winston of CPU3D (http://www.cpu3d.com/) (and his dedicated squad) cover the entire event from start to finish giving away literally thousands of £££'s of goodies each time and generally doing a fantastic job we thought it only right they should have a killer system to take pride of place on their booth.
With only something like less than eight weeks to go i thought it was about time i made a start.........and that's all i've made tbh.
Between us, we seem to have attracted quite a bit of sponsorship which is always greatly appreciated but apart from that i have no clue as to what's happening with the case so as usual its going to be a rollercoaster of a ride for the next few weeks.
Hardware so far...
Coolermaster ATCs 840
Coolermaster Real Power Pro 1000W PSU
Gigabyte EX58 Extreme
Intel Core i7 Extreme 965
OCZ Blade Triple Channel DDR3 6Gb Kit
OCZ Vertex 120Gb SSD
Geforce GTX 285 in 3-Way SLI
Progress so far... (don't laugh its a start)
How to take an 840 to bits in 10 minutes flat :D

Hot damn. Just looked at your parts list. Despite the Gigabyte motherboard (beggars can't be choosers and what not, but they don't have the greatest colour scheme), it's going to be one hell of a good looking computer.

I know, i know........best get me skates on as there is less than a month to go
I have indeed made a start and decided with all the blue, white and black involved that the theme would be loosely based on the Italian Police Lamborghini (http://www.coolercases.co.uk/cpu3d/lambo_pic.jpg).
You can just see in the very last picture how the front licence plate will look.
Anyway, i nice big box of goodies turned up today courteous of CPU3D (http://www.forums3d.com) so lets have a look what they sent....

What sort of car themed mod would be complete without a number plate (licence plate).
So cut out a piece of 1mm aluminium and shaped it number plate ish - drilled out 4 mounting holes and also into the front case bezel and tapped them to 6/32 and there you have it.........complete with my own photochopery skillz as to how it will look once its been to the painter.
Just before it goes, i marked out the entire case design with 8mm fine line tape - cut the window out and its good to go to DP Custompaints for another masterpiece :)

Was really happy with the Zotac logo i cut so thought why not use it on this on as well, plus CPU3D said they would love something similar also so i did the H2O3D logo.
Stuck some 1.5mm aluminium to 3mm thick blue plexi then printed out the individual letters in the correct font onto a piece of paper and stuck those to the alu for a template.
Once they were cut they just needed a little filing and sanding ready for to add the LED's :)
I got a youtube video to follow just to give an idea of fret saw work but not sure what that will be like :D

Thank you for posting that Paul. I appreciate that!
So basically you're keeping the saw on an even plane and rotating the work instead like you would on a scroll saw more or less.
I really want to try this.
The Zotac Logo Inspired the shit out of me.
Not necessarily even for a case, but just something cool to hang in the livingroom.
So many ideas!

I'm pretty unorthodox when cutting tbh Worthy.
The job really should be held with G clamps and the saw should do all the turns but i find im for ever moving and re-clamping the job so just tend to hold down by hand and turn both the saw and the job so probably not the best practice but it works for me.
Let me know how you get on as not everyone gets to grips with it so gud luck.

yeah I am definitely going to give this a try, another and then another. Then I will take a tantrum, try one more time at 3 am and post my results.
I have to go buy this fret saw. it cuts a lot easier through the aluminum than I would have thought. And truth be told I think the hand tool as opposed to the powered version gives more control over what you;re doing in the end.

I decided to lightly sand these letters to give a brushed sort of finish a bit like the eVGA X58 logo (http://www.evga.com/PRODUCTS/IMAGES/GALLERY/141-BL-E769-A1_LG_1.jpg)
Anyway, added a few blue LED's to match the blue theme and hopefully the case should be back for the weekend at some point when the real fun begins :)

A metal cutting blade.
There's like 2304597230 types of metal cutting blades for fret saws, and in fact his looks to actually be a FILING BLADE (http://www.sloanswoodshop.com/scroll_saw_blades.htm), hence my question.

The ones i'm using are these - Faithfull FAIPRSB32 (http://tbx.toolbankexpress.com/p/FAIPRSB32)
Notice they come in a pack of 12 and i probably used around 6 maybe on the full logo as they are tiny fine blades that don't take much to snap but they are cheap as chips :)

Yeah hardened steel embedded with abrasives are usually very brittle.
None of the bits on my old dremel scroll saw last very long.
It can be fristrating at times. Especially when you overpay for their own branded blades.:D

Hmmmm, what can we build today..................oh i know, a couple of pump/res combo's :)
Done it before but new log, new pictures.
Basically just using a couple of XSPC Bay-Res, two Alphacool plexi tops and two DDC pumps.
Just a case of tapping the reservoirs with 6/32" tap then using some silicon sealer to be on the safe side, screwed the whole lot together, add a few Bitspower barbs and viola...
And before anyone says it - i will be rinsing them both out to get rid of all the plexi shavings.

I got a bit of a problem i'm hoping one of you guys can help me with as i've been on for nearly two days trying to get this sorted.
I have a Gigabyte EX-58 Extreme motherboard - two Gigabyte GTX285 Rev2 PCB and one nVidia GTX285 Rev1 PCB installed and everything seemed to be fine until i try to run any benchmark.
I think it could be one of two things but not sure which yet.
As you can see from the picture, i've had to use molex adaptors to run the third card as the CM M1000 is only meant for dual sli not tri sli so that maybe causing it or the other thing was maybe the two new revision cards aren't playing nice with the older revision.
I've tried the cards in different slots and also tried new and older drivers with same results each time - starts no problem and sits in desktop no problem but as soon as i try to run anything the system freezes.
Same thing in Windows 7, Vista and i even tried XP with no luck what so ever.
Its no big deal to the guy its being built for and he says just go with two cards but i really need to get to the bottom of this before i go insane LOL
Anyone got any ideas???

proly the same with 285s
Silverion77
07-25-2009, 11:59 AM
What seems to be the problems? Any description of whats going on?
I doubt its the molex cause a 1000watt is plenty. All the molex does is add a little more resistance but it shouldn't stop it from working.
Revision might be it. Can u try 2 cards at a time? Maybe Rev 2 and Rev 2 and then try 1 rev 2 with the rev 1
mcoffey
07-25-2009, 12:00 PM
have you tried running each card separately and pushing it....last time I saw something like this was several years back on a new GPU I got...the card was borked from the factory, and every time I tried to run a game on it or push it, over heated and locked up.
I don't think it's the PSU...I was running my 2 GTX 295's with cheap splitters on my bench when I first got them with no problem.

Oh that would suck if it's true for 285s. Ballz can you confirm this?
Sorry paul, I don't understand why the SAME GPU won't work with another.
WTF????
That being the case there are going to be a lot of unhappy nvidia users adding a second or third card...eh?
coolmiester
07-25-2009, 12:13 PM
yeah should of mentioned - i've tried every permutation of cards in different slots and also running dual sli with a rev1 and a rev2 and it seems to work fine.......system freezes one the third card is added and i try to run an application such as 3dmark06
All cards seem to work great when installed on their own also.
Actually now i look at the EK blocks it will look a little odd with the two revision blocks so its either dual sli or see if we can get our hands on another Gigabyte card which i have a feeling is the problem tbh

Well not a great deal to show tbh as i'm still waiting to get the case back from the painters.
Anyway, i had the nice matching EK motherboard block turn up this morning and as i'm using 7/16" hose over 1/2" barbs i thought it best to rout all the hose up on the blocks while off the actual motherboard as i'd only have damaged something trying to push the hose on.
Took longer than i thought but i'm really happy and have managed to keep nice tight hose lines as i thought it might look a bit messy but i'm happy with that.
Also illuminated the CM badge that will be fitted to the front and just thought it was a nice little touch :)

At the end of the event i gave the mod to Winston of CPU3D who was over the moon and made it all worth while.

Hey Coolmiester what radiators did you use at the BOTTOM and TOP sections? Also have you ever modded a COOLER MASTER HAF 922 MidTower case yet? Can you do the same setup as this case TOP & BOTTOM rads?

Not natively but they will fit with a little gentle persuasion and maybe a jig-saw and hammer :D
Stacks of room up top but i doubt you would be able to fit one in the bottom without chopping the hard drive cage a bit different than how i have in the one pictured.
