Before replacing the dual-slot brackets with single slots:

http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z6/Cutless1/Simplicity/IMG_3187.jpg

Next up, removed the stock heatspreaders from the ram (which turned out to be aluminum, not even copper as the COPPER COLORED PAINT would lead one to believe), and put on the Enzotech Unicorn's:

Hey Cutless, I'm interested in seeing a little more about your planned incorporation of the drain ports.

I'm thinking about acquiring one of these cases at some point this year and for me, building in easy drainability for part swapping is key.

I see you've put ports down at the bottom. How do you plan to include them in the loop?

Cutless009
12-19-2008, 03:02 PM
The bottom drain ports are linked into the loop with a Q fitting right in front of the pumps outlet, which has 1x BP Temp Sensor Stop fitting, 1x 1/2"ID 3/4" OD compression fitting, and then off the last side theres two BP Extension Fittings, and a 90" Rotary which leads back to the drain port.

With the whole system off, the fill ports (which are on the top of the case at the back) can be blown into and the whole system will drain through the drain ports. The fittings on the top of the case have rotary adapters fitted to them so they can be easily taken off the top of the case so you can take the top panel off to get to the main hardware for maintenence (as its a fill port it shouldnt have water in it at an given time).

zlojack
12-19-2008, 03:11 PM
Nice...

I'd love to see a few more pics of that if you ever get a chance to take them.

Cutless009
12-19-2008, 03:13 PM
Sure, Im headed home on the 23rd, when I get back I'll take pics for you right after I get everything back together, its mostly apart atm for final build (was waiting on some mesh from McMaster to finish off the fan grills which are attached to the front panel via the screws that hold the rads/fans on which the pumps are mounted to so I cant do anything till they are finished lol).

Yah I know, as soon as I get my new pump back from NCIX (next Wednesday most likely) all I have to do is finish what little wiring I cant do without the pump in place and cut and mount the tubing for the fill holes and Simplicity (FB) is done and I'll be posting new pictures.

wtf is a murdermod? Is that like when I kill someone by cramming a DDC down their throat into their stomach and pump its contents directly into their mouth and watch their face melt off?

MurderMod store:
www.murdermod.com

MurderBox's built by CharlesH (the founder of Murdermod and a Canadian - Vancouver):
www.murderbox.com

His cases are absolutely beautiful and his work is top-notch. But I like a mod to present itself as unique and experimental (ie: bleeding edge innovative ideas) and the MurderMod look has just become too mainstream. Charles really made sleeving individual wires a must-have option in any mod, and he's certainly made the TJ07 an incredibly popular case (and it's well deserved; it's a nice case).

Here's a nice gallery of beautiful PCs... most of which are a bit to simple for my liking - but undeniably pretty.

Not that anyone cares anymore, christ it was forever ago it seems that I started this build, but shes ALMOST DONE. Finally got both loops filled and running pure distilled (thank you iandh and petra), almost ready for the power on test.

I had a hell of a time with leakage on the CPU loop. I ended up busting out the teflon tape in the end, I think it was cuz I had screwed/unscrewed into acrylic so much I'd worn out the seal around the outside. Anyways, its all good to go now! Enjoy the vid, Ill post more after I get a chance to get her booted up and OC'd!

Done all of that, I cant even get the screen to come on, it is seriously like the whole system boots up, but does absolutely nothing, I even plugged in a PC speaker, and it does nothing but the intial beep when you turn on the system. LCD Poster also does nothing when you turn the system on. Ive never seen anything like this

Check to makd sure the waterblocks aren't shorting the cards. That was a problem with the EK block, though I hadn't heard about it with the XSPC

I couldnt even screw it down all the way because of poor standoffs... how would I check to see if its shorting the card?

Put the stock heatsink back on and test it. :(

Langer
01-19-2009, 08:42 PM
Does the mobo you're using have onboard video? See if it's able to display.

To see if your block was shorting you'll have to take it off and examine the card.
I'd hate to think this but that 'snap' you heard earlier could have been a cap blowing, and perhaps it's now caused a bigger problem.

Lets just hope you haven't released the magic blue smoke.

Cutless009
01-19-2009, 08:42 PM
Oh wow..... uh..... gonna put that on the "last resort" list.... I JUST got the loops up and running xD

Langer
01-19-2009, 08:46 PM
Can you just unplug the cards and test with another air cooled card?
At least then you'll be certain it's the cards and not something else.

Do you have all the necessary power going to the cards? Are you certain you aren't maxing out the PSU.
It may be a bum PSU... that's stretching it though. Do you ave a multimeter to test it's output?

Otherwise, I don't know what else to say.

I'd check the cards either way though.

Cutless009
01-19-2009, 08:51 PM
Well its a 1600watt Ultra PSU....

lets see....

math....

yah not breaking more than 200v before the system itself... so that shouldnt be a problem.

Xilikon
01-19-2009, 08:56 PM
First of all, make sure the psu is working fine by unplugging everything then connect the green and black connectors together with something then plug it to see if it run. If it doesn't, the psu is borked (not surprising since it's a POS Ultra).

If it does work, you need to test it with the bare minimum (just 1 stick of ram, cpu, video card and motherboard). A sound like you described often mean a component cracked or popped, frying that part.

what woulda fried it there was nothing touching D:

Ive been testing with this PSU the whole time with it jumped like that so that the system wasnt on during leak testing etc, so Im sure the psu is fine.

Langer
01-19-2009, 09:01 PM
Take off the blocks, if something shorted, then it was beneath the blocks. Look for little black burn marks, or cracked/popped components on the card surface.

You may even want to check the chips make sure you didn't crush one by over tightening.

Cutless009
01-19-2009, 09:04 PM
Well I left the loop together, but checked all the components, theres no friedness/burn marks, everything looks perfectly normal on both cards, the ram, and the motherboard. I even reseated the CPU for good measure.

Ive never fried anything in my life, lets not hope that records come back to haunt me on this build! :(

its a 775, and I do have some, but Id have to pull them from another computer, and its currently in use, the ram is good I tested it, gonna slap one of the X2's into my other computer and test it, if its not that, I prolly cracked somtn on the mobo. My guess is its the NB if anything, pressed on it a good bit pushing tubing onto fittings.

Xilikon

So the video card and the ram is good. I bet 5$ it's the motherboard since it's almost impossible to kill a CPU unless you give him a hernia as well !

Back injuries are no laughing matter at all.

20 years ago had a pretty fast bike accident and fractured 5 vertebra and ended up in my local hospital in traction for 3 months (literally suspended off the bed with bolts top and bottom of my spine)........the good part, i was unconscious for the first week so didn't know much about it and that was followed by 6 months physio and learning to walk again.

I got to go back in at some point in my life to get two 12" titanium rods put in but the operation entails going in through my chest, removing all my vital organs so at present i put up with back pain and being 1.5" smaller than i was when i went it.

My friend wasn't so luck and bust his back for good so flees about in a wheel chair now.

Get well soon Cutless.

I bet there's a airlock somewhere in the loop. I suggest you run the pump sporadically to unlock air bubbles until you see regular water movement with small bubbles.

CrazyJoe
01-22-2009, 08:18 PM

Yes, it's possible.
You may want to try putting some restriction ( pinching ) the outlets of the pumps as you start them up. This usually helps to prime the pumps if there is a vapor lock involved.

Cutless009
01-22-2009, 11:38 PM

Crap... I have 9 of those Scythes in Prometheus... is that what I get to look forward to?

I'm happy to hear about your booting success Cutless... there's nothing worse than replacing hardware for a build that's supposed to be making money.

It should be below ambient with those fans lol.......only kidding :D

So what was up with the pump and how did you get it going in the end??

Glad its all sorted anyway.

The way the tubes were routed, there was a place with a huge cavitation the pump couldnt push past, I took the tube off, pre-filled it with water, and re-attached it, after the the pump self-primed the loop just fine :)

ordering up a 2nd PSU (corsair 1000HX) to power the graphics cards, and a Black Freezer from BP to cool the motherboard, after that it should be plug and play.

cool(i'm kind of thinkin about doing a build similar to elegant murder lol)

if you do it, keep me updated on it, it's a very complex and expensive build (total cost tally including hardware was estimated to be about $15,000 for that build, which is why it never got built).

If you're on the EVGA E758 board, then I'd recommend the EK motherboard block set, especially for the mosfet block -- the Bitspower one, awesome though it is, doesn't cover everything that needs to be covered, thus why I don't recommend it. It is sexy though -- I had one for a few days due to a mixup with my block order for my Classified (E758 block is "EI58DP" Classified block is "EI58DP II")....

I have a couple things to custom order with gary, if he can get the EK one then I'll get it, otherwise it'll be a BP with a seperate mosfet block.

Well even if you had to get it from somewhere else it'll still be cheaper than the Bitspower set after shipping -- the EK sets are like 110-120ish USD for BOTH blocks (NB/SB and mosfet). Basically, you get both blocks for around what you'd spend on just the Bitspower NB/SB.

I can understand going for looks over price (Getting the Bitspower Classified set over the EK Classified set) but going for looks over performance is completely different....

i think hesmelaugh did a test, and the bp beat out mips, and FUFUFUFUFUFUFUFU(i think the mips mosfet block might have won vs the bp block though)

its more about customer loyalty than it is price. I don't really care, its going to be within a couple of bucks anyways, and I'd rather support gary than one of these stupid tools who dont even know anything about what they sell.

The reason I suggested not using the BP blocks for the EVGA E758 board is that there are a few chips that are covered by the original NB/SB HSF that aren't covered by the MOSFET block or the NB/SB block that BP sells. They ARE covered by the blocks from EK and MIPS, which is why I recommended them.

I'm sure you could (assuming that you haven't gotten the blocks already) get Gary to order you a set of the EK blocks the next time he puts in an order with EK...

Have MIPS block on the way, with a Ram Cooler 5 accompanying it.
