I have an old s939 MSI neo2 MB and I want to bring it back online. Linux router and crunching.
I can't find the damned retention bracket for the thing. I got the backplate just not the black retention thingy on top the heatsink clips on.
Any one got one laying around?

Any this old case has 80mm fans -.-
I need just one so the thing does fry when it's crunching.

Thank you,

David

I might have an old OEM bracket/heatsink/fan that came in a s940 opteron retail package from years back. Would that possibly help? If so, I'll try to locate it tonight and shoot you a photo.

edit: Perhaps I misread your post, and responded with the wrong item. If it's just the simple rectangular black plastic ring that screws into the backing plate (with the mobo in between) that the heatsink/fan assembly "claws into", I probably have a couple of those too for s940. Since s940=s939 for this purpose, you should be good to go.

No you got it right. LOL, just my luck, I have socket A with 4 holes and socket AM2/AM3 with 4 holes. Now why in all that's holy is 754/939 two hole?

Too bad I was a cheap hoe and bought my bro an old s939, when for $75 bucks more I could have gotten him a s940. THen when I got it back 4 years later I could've popped in a 5400+ . Karma's a bitch.

I also just remembered that I came into a bunch of these when I put my recent 3rd-gen opteron (1207, socket-f) build to water. The 754, 939, 940, and 1207 mounts are all the same.

Just to clarify, you already have the heatsink clamp and just need the mobo frame that it clamps too. This frame surrounds the socket and is attached to the backing plate via 2 screws. Correct? If so, PM your mailing address and I'll send one.

Don't give up so easy. You can still have "5400+" performance by getting a dirt-cheap opteron-165 (a great overclocker) on eBay and popping that in. They'll do 3.0GHz, despite locked multiplier.
