its about time i make a build log of my upcomming rig. the goal is simple: a very simple and quite, yet elegant watercooled rig. i like my rigs to look minimalistic. the lesser the mods involved, the better. so here goes..

ill start with the parts i'll be using:

first thing is the casing. ill be using the same case as my [Thessa] 1.0, the lian li pc-a77. i really like the very simple look of this case. at the same time has enough space inside to house two triple rads. one on the top and one on the front. and possible another rad? we'll see..

done powdercoating the internal. its in matte black.

the Watercooling components : some of the parts here may not be the best watercooling components, but they are already in my possession so why not use them at the mean time. it might change in the future.

thanks!
i will be fitting the rx360 in the front..i wont be using any unneccessary front bay devices nor a optical drive. it will look very simple and boring. haha! for the HDD, i will mount it upside down on the 5.25 bay cage

ILikeCosmosS
05-10-2009, 07:49 AM
hey you still 2 bays left so make some covers for the optical drive lol

120mm = 3bays i see 9 bays +2 = 2 extra bays

there 12 which means you could fit 480 at the front :D then you would no extra bays left

knet370
05-10-2009, 07:57 AM
the xspc takes about 10 slots including the area where the threads are..i might put in a lian li cd rom bezel without a ODD behind it. haha! we'll see..an idea might pop out of my head.

i tried fitting a gtx 480, bat sadly, it doesnt fit. it takes around 13 slots! keep in mind the area where the threads for the fittings takes another 1 slot.

ILikeCosmosS
05-10-2009, 08:08 AM
lets see this RUNNING :D

yeah i forgot that the threads take a slot

still have choice to put a cd rom drive instead of fugly external one

btw, the color theme for this build is black and white. i've tried a bit of PS to see what it will look like atleast on the outside. it will look similar to this. but it might change.

http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g4/knet370/whitebay.jpg

everything is not final yet. the top, front faceplate, and front bay covers where already sent to the powdercoater. if it will end up looking good then ill settle with it. if not, i still have some spare top panel, front faceplate, and front bay covers in hand. ;-)

as for the sidepanel, i havent decided yet..either black or white. i dont know.. haha!

i guess it will look similar to this if its in white..
http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g4/knet370/WhiteExterior-2.jpg

i might add in a grill on the sides just like the tj09 or not.

or glossy black like in this picture. the panel behind the white sidepanel.
http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g4/knet370/WhiteExterior-1.jpg

anyway, if i mess up, i also have spare sidepanels. hehe.

hope you don't mind posting more pictures on it especially the internals and the connector for the main part and the 'hovering' section. looks like a bp male-to-male fitting... but it could be a special connector. thanks in advance knet.

that black thing on the inlet of the nb/sb block, what is that?

It's for cooling the qpi circuit.
And looking deeper, I guess he has to parallel cool the sli since the psu in the bottom of the case won't allow any fittings.

yup, it's a separate 'block'

Take a look at an r2e and see for yourself. There is an elevated board under that logo thing that lights up and the logo is also a heatsink.

And another thing that is really cool about it is that it moves the fitting out to the left. Makes for a cooler looking loop IMO depensing on how you want to do it.

Oh noes to the triple sli!
Third card wouldn't fit?

Also a plain BP rotary 90 would work a lot better on the top vid card to come out of the BP freezer. I have to do that too. My double rotary 90 is too tall and the system won't drain easy because of that. It just bugs me. Of course if it's how you like it, then it's all good.

I really like it. Very clean.

thanks dude.

i decided not to go tri sli on this one. i installed the third card on my 1.0 rig.

the 45 on the top card i did that on purpose to give the tube a slight curve. it looks better to have some curve to it. it goes well will the tube on the buttom card. and i have a drain on the front mounted rad to help on the draining process. but all is not final yet. i might change some stuff here and there.

Understood. I have the same board and the black freezer so I learned a little bit with it.
What's your take on the qpi block? I have mixed emotions about it and question whether it's necessary.

I do like the way it splits the inlets and outlets apart from each other though.

knet370
06-05-2009, 11:33 AM
honestly im really digging what bp has done with the inlet/outlet location. i think it makes those tube curves really sexy..but i dunno if its really necessary to watercool the qpi module. (i have no idea if it really gets hot). i dunno if you routed your tubes the same as mine but i like what i did there.

can you show me how you routed yours? i might get some idea's from yours..

Worthy
06-05-2009, 11:47 AM
Sorry it's so dark. My UVs are currently removed as I am under renovations myself lol.

This is what I did.

With a standard single rotary 90, the video card inlet will be perfectly level with the outlet of the Black freezer. And BTW don't waste your time like I did trying to light up the black freezer acrylic with the original board LEDs. It's a lost cause.

OK same PSU as me. So you're buying extensions and single sleeving the PCI-E extensions I assume?

knet370
06-06-2009, 08:52 PM
for the pci-e cables, those are original hx1000w pci-e cables i asked corsair for additional and then sleeve those. that way if i sell the psu later on, every cable that came with the psu with still be untouched. for the 8pin eps and 24pin, those are just extensions bought from sidewinder leaving the psu's 8pin and 24pin untouched.
