Well,
Just couldn't resist some of the new stuff MM has come out lately, so spent about an hour yesterday working with Ben on some custom stuff. First time I've really worked with him directly, and I can't say enough about his ability to get a concept or design idea into build. I've been kind of tuff on Been over the years, but without his help, the build design I've been planning for over a year wouldn't have been possible. He's a great guy, very professional and it was a pleasure working with him.
I'm talking about a 4 or 5x PA 120.3 build, where 100% of the heat dump is outside the case, dead nuts quiet and optimal cooling efficiency.
And here's the kicker. The inside case volume is less than an Extended Ascension CYO:D I've been planning this build for over 1.5 years
Stuff should be here Thursday, so I'l start posting some picks then. Just thought I'd give you MM/PA lovers a heads up:D

very good andy, must be that custom coffee table, the only thing ontop would be a simple mini case style with only the mobo and cd drive visible and some tubing snaking out to the bottom...
any pictures or drawings would be nice...

Yeah,
Haven't decided whether I wan't to do a double loop with 4 120.3's, or triple loop with 5 120.3's. Really depends on how I can move the air thru the 5th rad if I decide to go that way. Over all, adding a 5th rad really won't amount to much for cooling, because 4 120.3 can handle just about anything I can think of.
Well, maybe not:D

I'm definetly looking forward to seeing the build. As soon as I get tired or board of my Cosmos I'm going to get my MM!
yeah,
I already did the MM cube thing, so I wasn't interested in another MM build until I saw them come out with the Pedestal 24 and Pennacle 24. The Pennacle with be up on my desk, the Pedestal on the floor sitting 24" wide by 18" tall. Twin D-5's for each twin 120.3, for 2 seprate loops in the Pedestal. That much I know for sure. I'll have to wait for the case to get here before I decide on a third loop with a single 120.3 in the Pennacle. Just depends on how I can move the air thru the rad for the thrid loop. But I am leaning that way.
No way I was going to do a build with all the heat dump from 3 or 4 rads in the case. That's why I stopped my 343b build a year ago. To each their own, but that's a really bad design IMO, and just won't do for me.
I haven't started the build log on the 343b yet. All the MB and cooling stuff will come out of this one, and go into the main build. So this is where the 343b build stopped.
Tricked out pump control. I'l use the same concept in the new build. Each pump can be turned off and on, and power supply to the pumps can be switched from main PC power to aux power for filling and bleeding. Also you can see the Pedestal 18 the 343b will sit on. That will all remain with the 343b, but I won't run dual pump setups or dual rads now.

Yeah,
All my builds have TC PA shrouds. Best way to run a rad I know of. And I wouldn't do any serious build without them. Gotta have my shrouds man. Efficeient air flow and the noise reduction is substantial when using a pull config on the fans.

Yeah i'm gonna mod up some shrouds for my Swifties two types as i'm goonna need to stack a few of the rads
Looking @ a S/S shroud that would be on the out side of the ped all the way around that way i could have my 2 GTX480 on the long side & the mcr320's on the short side & still have some more rads stacked inside
all this would be the air blowing out .... anyway not to hi-jack yer thread ... Nice Looks Great .. I Like .. keep the pix coming ..

Here's the first part of the build which I'll be using for the external rad box. Basically it's a cross between a Pedestal 24 and Monacle 18. Mostly Monacle with the Pedestal side panels.
Here's the base, which would be like one on a Monacle.

Here's something that might interest benchers or somebody wanting to setup rads externally next to their case. I use drawer L brackets from Lowes for the feet, and striaght brackets to connect the two rads together.
And yes, they does need a good cleaning. :yepp: Both these rads have been in service on my bench for over a year. They'll both be getting a new home in the Pedestal radbox along with two others.

And here's the last pic where I dry fitted the rad to make sure there's enough clearence. I was pretty concerned about that, but Ben hooked me up with no problem. There'll be just enough room on the front panel side to get the fans connected. Shooooo, that was a close one.

Great design, Andy...
How sturdy are the plexi side panels?
They ain't plexi, they just look that way because of the mirror black finish:D They're a flanged tray design, all one piece. The front, back and top are the only removable panels.
The front is the only panel that's acrylic and it's 1/4". I couldn't get a AL front with the right spacing unless I waited for a custom parts run. Ben suggested the acrylic and felt like it would be strong enough. He can cut those on the 40 watt laser in the shop.
The side and top panels will be used as vents with filters. It's seems rigid enough, but I'll support the rads from the bottom just to take some weight off.
Then your putting a pinnacle on top of that? Yikes! lol Might be abit unstable or tippy don't you think?
No No,
The Pinnacle will sit on my desktop, and the tubing will run down to the Pedestal thru the top.

Oh yeah, would be cool. You could actually get a 24x24 hybrid pedestal with quad 480's, and stack a Pinnacle 24 right on top with another 480 in the case for the third loop. Be pretty wild, and the most extreme LC system I could imagine keeping sound design goals in mind as far as cooling capacity goes.
But part of my design was to allow for modularity and future expansion. Say I get tired of the Pinnacle and want to move to another case. I just disconnect the tubing, turn the Pinnacle into a single loop, single rad build and connect the rad box to any other case I want for high performance LC. It could be any case, as long as I could fit two good size res's in it. And I could split the 4 rads up inside the Pedestal anyway I wanted with very little modification. I could change it into a 4 loop build if I wanted, simply by changing the tubing and connections around and adding res's to the main case. Or I could cool up to 4 different cases really easy. The Pedestal will have 4 D-5's mounted inside. Each pump has it's on power feed and control.
And the best part is, no heat dump in the main case. or not enough to effect anything:D
Took me a long ass time to think all this crap up and plan. It wasn't until MM came up with the new cases that it all came together. I didn't want to build my own radbox, just don't have the time or energy.

Yeah, and thanks for mentioning that. I don't think it's going to be an issue. But if it doesn't hold up, I can get another panel for 40.00 bucks and do as you suggest. Or get MM to custom cut a AL front panel.
Thanks for the suggestion though none the less. Very good idea and hadn't thougt of it.

The Pinnacle 24 in up and ready to go. This thing is just enormous. All the room on the world inside. This will makes things so much easier on a large scale build. There will be plenty of room for the 3 EK 250 res's. Should be really good on air flow thru the case too.
The one thing that concerns me, and will need to do something about, is the MB tray itself. It's ridgid enough at the bottom because of the attached flange, but the top portion is somewhat flimsy it seems. I'm afraid that if I don't secure it for stability somehow, the two GTX 280 with Hydro FC blocks will bend it. Just a concern at this point, but I wouldn't feel to comfortable with it as is. Both the blocks weigh around a kilo a piece.
Here's a pic of the front and back panels on the base.

Well,
That's about as clean as I can get a triple loop build to route. I think it turned out pretty fair. You can see where I'll drill the bottom of the case out for the pass thru fittings. I figured I'd have at least one pump and rad in the main box. Just didn't seem right to have a LC build without a full loop exposed, it suit my eye better, and it made the triple loop possible. The internal rad, res and pump will be for the chipset/mosfet loop. I can't imagine there will be enough heat dump to spoil my design requirements with all the other air moving thru the case.
Wire management is as easy as any case I've ever worked with. Since the wires from the PSU dump right behind the MB gap. Should make for a very clean build. The MB ended up being much more ridgid than I originally thought. Everything seem sturdy.Once I pull the dry fit and drill the case out, I'll remount and make ready for operation. Then off to finish the Pedestal and get everything ready to run.
Here's the pics on todays progress.

Andy,
In the Pinnacle 24, is there enough room between the side panel and removable mobo tray to hide all the PSU cables and such? I see your wires back there, but how does it compare to other cases?
Also, I see that the top of the mobo tray does not have a top support. Is it flimsy? My Silverstone TJ-03 has an upper rail that supports the mobo tray at the top.
Thanks.

Oh yeah, there's plenty enough room to hide any PSU cables or other wires going to the MB. The wires are are just laying in there right now, everything is just mocked up so I'd see the layout and know where to drill the holes for the pass thur fittings.
I was a little concerned about the MB tray at first. Without the MB mounted is seemed somewhat flimsy, but once the board is mounted with the cards everything seems to stiffen up nicely. Each one of those GPU FC blocks weigh 2 lbs and the MB seems to support everything just fine.

It would be tight, and the PSU would block air flow thu the rad. You have 3.75" from a TX1000 type PSU to the case top. That's why I decided to put the one internal 120.3 up front. There's tons of room there.

Well it's up, ruinning and it screams:D More glam shots to come once I get the cam setup. This thing took over 5 liters to fill...lmao. Runs cool as ice. Case temps never go above 2c from ambient air even under 100% CPU and GPU load. MB temp around 4-5 C above ambient air temp. Fluid/Air delta around 2.2c with fans running at 1000RPM. Fluid temps only rise around 2 C from idle on the CPU and 2.5-3.0 C on the GPU loop running one hour 3D Mark 06 @ 2560x1600. Just a insane system and meets all my expectations.
I couldn't be more happy with the way it turned out. Oh, and with 20 fans running, as quiet as any rig I've run if not more quiet. My wife couldn't believe it. This rig makes less noise than her stock Dell.

What, for the fill port tubing? LOL...I don't like that much either. Yeah, I would have much rather run it straight up, but couldn't because of the drive gage on one side so I used 2 45's on the end res. Now that I've got the holes drilled up top, I might just use straight 1/2"
fittings with bent tubing for a more classic look.

mcoffey

Nice job Andy.
I assume you have the top case fans sucking the hot air out of the top?
Yep, and it never gets warm really because all the usual heat generating components are LC'd. The 120.3 up front cools the NB/SB and Mosfet blocks only, so very little heat dump from that one rad. Also, I have the bottom back fan blowing fresh cool outside air across the MB, so that's help too. The top back fans pulls case air out also. So 4 fans in, and 4 fans out plus the 140 MM PSU fan out.
Right now I'm running 100% load with a 24c ambient air. The inside case air temp is 27.06 C:D It's one of the design features that I'm most proud of, and one of the main concepts of the build. One of the things I learned back when I ran a dual loop with my Horizon was without proper air flow thru the case and exhuast, the rads heat dump turns the case into a oven which in turn heated the rad casings greatly reducing efficeincy.
That's why I stopped the triple loop 343b build back over a year ago. I could have gotten it to work and fit everything in the case, but the cooling efficeincy would have been horrible with all that heat dump inside the case based on my requirements. The main requirement being silence with optimal cooling. Using the Pedestal/Monicle 24 as the rad box eleviated that problem by moving the heat dump from the rads away from the components inside the main case. Also, by moving most of the noise generation farther away from where I sit, really reduced the fan and pump noise from the 12 fans and 4 D-5'w in the rad box.

Oh yeah,
I can't have a rig without filters myself. Some don't like the way they look, but I do. I like the contrast of the flat black against the gloss. Also the higher profile of the filters sort of break up the flat panel box look. I think I'm going to get some custom stuff milled with some sort of filter casing like these have. These particular filters don't seem to restrictive or noisey.

The right side and middle res, see how the knurled fittings are at the bottom? Those are temp while I get something custom milled, but they support all 3 res's at the bottom of the case, while the 3 top and bottom res holders interconnect to support the res on the left. The bottom fittings actually feed the fluid thru the pass thru fitting, to the rad box. It works really good to, fairly ridgid, and allow's me to remove the back panel for maintanence.
Made things much cleaner.

Routing goes....res/pump/rad/blocks/res on all three loops. Temp diff is only around .5c thruout the entire loop, so you could change the routing around any way you wanted.
CPU fluid only runs around 27-28.5c under 100% load, so still pretty cool to the touch.
Glad you enjoy the build. I love it. Even with 20 fans spinning, makes less noise than my wife's Dell did. Just one of the benefits of hi pro LC setups.

Looks like a big fat bag of shit, Andy. Did you build that with your fucking eyes closed? No dust? Fans not held on by zip-ties? You consider this to be the pinnacle of watercooling? WTF? The tubes all match! Come on man! Your rads don't even overlap so hot air from one will blow onto the other one! Shit man!

The one thing that drives me insane about taking pics of my machine (aside from the fact that i suck) is the reflection in the window you always get.
But that is a great looking machine andy. Good job!

Nice job. I really like the size of that case, and how you did the management/location of all the liquid cooling components.
