he might have had a place make the hologram.
Not sure something like that is readily available, but I could be wrong.
My guess would be at one of those joke stores that sell all that weird shit.

I bought a sweet verrtical 2 inch diameter plasma lightning tube at a place like that and it's going to go into my machine.

The hologram area is just a mirror plate with a half cut cube stuck on it at a certain angle to make it reflect as if it's a full cube.
Very simple really.
I remember doing something like that back in school =]
