I've been a Linux user for 6 years now, and every time they get closer and closer to Linux, but fall short. No REAL 64-bit support, stupid upgrading, licensing, etc-and the cost...

Before anyone says it, I was running Guild Wars in Cedega back in '05-'06, so this is NOT new to me. What is new is Crossover Games and the support they bring for DX9 AND DX10. Yes, I pay 40 bucks. However, that gets me ongoing support and the fact that since I don't reinstall, I recompile I never have to buy it again appeals to me. GW works just fine, as do almost all Steam games. I can even participate in helping others get up and running.

I'm currently downloading and backin up my system, and getting ready to burn the ISO and redo my whole system from scratch. I'll post when i have internet working again (in other words, while it's installing from the live CD) about the swapover. If I wanna be different, I might as well go all out.

Step 1: Download/burn Ubuntu (or in my case, kubuntu)

I've downloaded and burned the x64 ISO for my distro, the latest version of Kubuntu. Kubuntu is the same Ubuntu with the KDE desktop and its tools, which I am more familiar with. I'll add the GTK+ support in after the install.

Currently, I'm in the PE (preinstallation environment) using this as a live CD. Need to get drivers sorted and the resolution up posthaste...

Here goes, after this there's no return...

would you mind giving me some assistance in the near future to help me get my system up and running with gaming abilities?
