OK, so I have a Corsair AX850, needless to say, it's a bitch to even get the motherfucking pins out. So, I decided, fuck it, I want a higher wattage PSU.
I talked to a few people and they say the Silverstone Strider is a pretty good one for modding, as it only has 1 wire per pin, unlike my corsair, and the the wires are fairly easy to remove in comparison to the Corsair.
So, do you all know of any other power supplies that are fairly easy for modding (i.e. easy removal and 1 wire per pin) that you would recommend over a Silverstone Strider 1200W?
Thanks guys....

Don't get an Enermax Platimax, the pins aren't that bad, but there are a lot of those double wires, and maybe even time triples.

Silverstone are my favoriite PSUS to mod . . .I personally just cut off the connectors and repin them - you get a better result with fresh pins and it cuts down the time

I hear that, but man, oh man.... I would probably FUCK IT UP!
If I were to mod, what's the best way of keeping track or where what wires go where?
Thanks DB and noob for the help so far!

you will surely have an extra cable for everything other than the 24 pin and those are easy as they are one to one . .. use a spare cable as a reference. For the Duke mod we made all new cables (my buddy helped crimp). Took a day and a half to make all new cables in the lab at NVIDIA

yeah those pins are never the same once they get pulled out once. i sleeved some fan wires and if im not careful when i tinker the pins will pop out if i sneeze on em. i wanted to sleeve my psu wires but after messing with the fans i cant justify spending the 10+ hours it would take to sleeve everything. maybe im just a slow ass though...

I use a small precision flathead screwdriver to remove the pins from the housings. Works fast and you probably already have one. I tried the MNPCTech removal tools and they didn't do jack shit. With the screwdriver you put it in with the head parallel to the housing sidewall then twist it 90deg. This will push the retention tab of the pin in letting you take it out. I reused every pin on my seasonic x750 by just bending the retention tabs out after I was done. As for keeping track of wires I made a diagram of the color of the wires and what slot in the housing they go. You don't need to put the exact wire in the exact spot, only make sure the color of the wires is the same for the slot. Also wrap the pin of the wire in electrical tape so it's easier to thread it through the sleeving.

You can also try staples

Have you successfully used staples before? They weren't worth a damn on the three PSUs I tried them on.

or rub your nipples with ice cubes and try them

So, one of those tiny ass one's for like fixing glasses, just put it on a side between the pin and plastic and twist, eh?

take a picture of wires and scetch diagram b4 removing anything also use masking tape to ID them
FaRKle! got it right but need a good pair of eyes
note DB had his farmed out to a pro crimper< is the key to getting good resaults
and crimp die to match connector, wire awg
if can't get a good crimper then just cut wire off connector and slip on heat shrink tube then solder on and heat shrink it

Yup. I believe the one I used had a head less than 2mm wide.
I don't have a crimper so I solder all my pins on when putting new pins on wires. Also, a cheap heatgun works wonders when you have to do all that heatshrinking later on.

You NEED a crimper when putting on new pins man. I couldnt even imagine how long it would take just to solder them on.
I custom wire all my PSUs from the board to the connector. So far its been 90% Corsair PSUs and the pins are easy for me. HX1000W have been the last two.

So what do you do to take the pins out?
Maybe I should have someone do this shit for me... haha...
I could send the wires... and I have all the materials ;)
Anyone wanting to make some extra $$?

It would be the 24 pin, the 8 pin mobo, and two of the 8 pins PCI-E....

I don't cut my pins off for PSU sleeving. I push the retention tabs in, cover the pin in electrical tape, thread it through the sleeve, take the tape off, and push the tabs back out. The only pins I ever solder are fan pins when I buy nice San Aces or Deltas from OEM distributors.

no we both took turns - one person cut, one crimped, one put on connector but you are right the die you have installed makes a huge difference has to be right size . . .Had to crimp around 140 pins for just that build.

I know that the crimping tool is just as important as the pins. Some pins have longer "ears" than others and make a much nicer wrap ... so long as the crimping tool is of quality as well.
I'm pretty sure there was another post somewhere around here with links and pics to some quality pins and crimper resellers.
Ah- Ha ! ... Found 'em.

Thanks for the links.
I'd still rather pay someone some good $$$ to mod the cables, than do it myself, time constraints...

I've been sleeving my whole enermax psu using staples to remove the pins.
That works for you?

Are you talking about the normal sized staples, or something thicker and bigger (that's what she said)?

I just use the normal kind that you would find in a common stapler, just bend them into a U shape and then use them to depress those clips that hold the pin in the connector

I use the sunbeam pin remover. Seems im the only person that has had any luck with them. Just dont man handle the pins to get them out.

That tool didn't do a damn thing for me, except cause me to contact Corsair to send a replacement cable I fooked up.
