Hey guys need some suggestions on a new monitor. I have the new card (EVGA GTX 560 2GB SC) and i want to actually put it to use. Its barely being taxed at this current resolution of 1680x1050.

I know absolutely FUCKALL about screen technologies. Currently sporting the Viewsonic VA2226W. Dont want to spend a crapton of money but i do want something nice.

Define 'crapton of money', that would be a good place to start :D

what about that thing? it looks pretty boss. i did a google search for gaming monitor 101 and after i read the quick primer (contrast ratio means ballsack, IPS>TN,8ms or better, L E FUCKING D, and i want at least 1920x1200 resolution cuz its what i see on all the benchmarks for games and shit and i dunno. i feel like the 1920x1080 is a weird res.

yea i gives no fucks about speakers :) i just want a really nice monitor for gaming. dont want to use a friggin TV anymore. shits annoying. wtf is the point of 46" if its still a goofy fucking resolution. no one benchmarks at that size/res so i cant get a clear reading on hardware reviews as to whether the fuck its going to work well for me.

also whats the deal with refresh rate. does it really matter at all?

After using a 120hz for a short while (meaning like a week or so) and then going back to my 24" 60hz... You can DEFINITELY tell the difference if your eyes arent shit. A lot of people say there isnt a large enough difference to justify the price difference... but I surely notice it, and many of my family and friends would agree. It all comes down to personal preferance, to be honest... After using my 60hz for a while afterwards, it doesnt even bother me lol.

And for the difference between 1920x1200 and 1920x1080... If you are going by benchmarks, you can just add a couple more fps when you go from 1200 to a 1080 monitor, with such a small change there isnt too much of a change in FPS, enough when the card is taxed, but since you have a 2gb Vram card, it shouldnt even phase it really ;)

The 560ti 2gb are solid cards for the price/performance, you will definitely get your moneys worth with even a small OC of the card, and with a new monitor.
Personally if you have $350 get a decent sized 1920x1200 screen I say like 24 or 25", maybe a 27" if you can find a decent price, and try to get a 120hz if you can. But I wouldnt count on finding a monitor with 120hz and 1920x1200 for that price. IDK tho, havent really looked at newegg pricing yet, though they do tend to overprice things lately, so I would try to find a sale and use a coupon if you can, the best way to get good prices off that site.

I'd go with a 24" 1920 x1200. I personally use a SAMSUNG T240 for a couple years now. No complaints. This video is of the T240HD. Main differences are that the HD adds :jackoff: speakers and the cable input. Monitor remains the same.

First put these thoughts in your head and spin it around for a little time;
What do you use your monitor for?
Image rendering/work with colors (IPS panel is the best here, like the dell you found)
Or do you just want a plain old gaming screen (i wouldnīt go to say that 120hz is a must, but it is quite nice and there is some difference)

I personally use a Acer 24 inch 120hz screen, and thats quite nice compared to my old alienfuck aw2310....

On a 24" computer monitor? Who mounts a 24" monitor to the wall???

My next monitor will definitely be an IPS.

There's also a used-like new ZR24w on Amazon for ~$310 shipped. Save yourself a good $50 if you're willing to go that route.

It makes making a 3-monitor stand with the Samsungs impossible :comp1: And for people with eyefinity or surround, its a huge turnoff, especially for people who are neat freaks (and there are many out there that want 3-monitor stands...)

Marne, it is tough to beat an HP when it comes to monitors IMO. I have a 30 inch that is over 3 years old and is STILL being sold it is so fucking awesome. Hard to beat this bad boy as it meets all your requirements:

I agree, that's a nice gaming monitor.

Its in no way a great gaming monitor... Period, end of discussion, ips simply do not meet the requirments of a gaming monitor..

Pfffffft, stop thinking about that Bullshit known as TN. IPS's are fully capable of any gaming environment that is thrown at them with current technology. Plus it looks 100x better.

Look at a half decent review before making claims. The numbers that all monitors report are BS. Reviews show the real numbers and IPSs have fine control on refresh rate as well as input lag.

(Back from RRT recession :woot:)

I have made some work for another danish site about flatpanels (both for movie watching, livingspace and personal computers)

IPS panel has nothing to do with modern day gaming, if you donīt feel like there is something wrong, your not the right person to have this discussion with... They suffer from serious tearing compared to an old computer screen or modern 120 (or even 60hz TN panels for that matter)

Input lag is near min now a days, but they still suffer from real bad colour shifting times (fuck that G2G 8ms times, take other colours, black2white is the worst by far for most IPS screens, anyone say 50-80ms?)

Just a tear out of a review we made about the famaous;

Dell U2410 has a fine response time for multi-purpose use, but the most hardcore gamers will probably still prefer TN panels, whose strength lies in the response time. One example is Samsung 2233rz that we have reviewed here: Samsung 2233rz review.

Dell U2410 is very similar to its little brother Dell 2209WA, which also features an IPS panel. Dell U2410 also has some minor overdrive trailing like Dell 2209WA.

Dell U2410 has only minor input lag. It performs well in most semi-fast games but as said it is not quite as fast as the fastest 2 ms TN-based monitors on the market. For sporadic gaming Dell U2410 is adequate, and at the same time it has much better picture quality than gaming monitors.

And as i said multiple times before, why go for something when you can get the best?

And about image quality, ever thought about buying a real calibration equipment?
You canīt possible see any difference in a game (and you have to work with colours everyday from a business point of view to tell it even) when im done with such equipment to your screen... It turned my faithfull G30 into one of the best screens that is ever made in that price league (and is considered the best in prices over it by multiple others)

And before you say anything about me being a product of bad sales talk; my preferences;

Gaming; 1920x1200, LED (even O-LED would be nice, but good luck with finding that)
Graphic; 1920x1080, S-PVA or IPS, a slightly backlight from the bottom i can live with not from other sites, i love a screen with a warm feel, normally around 7000k.....

NEC EA231WMi
NEC EA232WMi
Dell U2311H
Dell U2312HM
Dell U2412HM

Take your pick. Personally the NEC EA232WMi or Dell U2312HM gets my vote.

Also, www.tftcentral.co.uk is your friend.

IPS displays are notorious for having a very slow response time, which is bad for quickly shifting images, which would cause ghosting; for example, gaming.

I have a Dell U2410 and is beautiful and slow response time is excellent. I am sensitive to motion blur and no issue with this monitor.

The U2410 is one of the slower IPS displays too...

You want as fast as you can get. I'm was just using the U2410 as an example of how many people like them, even though they're one of the slower IPS displays.

Out of the monitors I listed the Dell ones with overdrive have the least ghosting (not that it's noticable with the others anyways), but generally have sligtly higher input lag compared to the NEC models. The U2312HM however is the fastest of all those monitors with one of the least ghosting and fastest input response.

The biggest cause of input lag is all the fru-fru shit they include with the monitors these days. Yeah, TN monitors are faster but they don't represent colors as well as IPS panels. No point in getting a TN monitor at that price point IMO. IPS Panels HAVE come a long way to reduce the input lag as the tech is becoming mainstream.

The only real way to ensure low input lag is to get a business class monitor, one that doesn't perform its own scaling, no on streen tweaks, none of that shit and you will have minimal input lag. Then again you won't find any for the 350 price range either.

Marne, its a tradeoff in my opinion. Better color, to me, equals a more immersive gaming environment. I have a 30 inch IPS from 3 years ago and I have zero ghosting. Stick with the HP monitor I recommended and you should be fine.

As far as I understand, most of the lag you'll see with monitors is created by the monitors upscaler. Basically if it has to resize the resolution to fit the screen, you'll add about 30 to 50 ms of lag depending on which monitor you choose. This represents about 2 frames.
This isn't an issue if you're running at the native resolution, like with your computer for example, but if you play any Xbox or Playstation games online, it can be a problem, for some.
From my research into a new monitor, you can't go wrong with either of the HP or the Dell monitors suggested. Good luck with your choice.
