This page will show you how to install and configure WCG.

If you already participate in the World Community Grid project, click here (http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/team/viewTeamInfo.do?teamId=X2BX9KBJ5V1), then click on the join now button on the page that appears.

If you do not participate in the World Community Grid project and are new, click here (http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/reg/viewRegister.do?teamID=X2BX9KBJ5V1). When you register, the team will be automatically selected for you. You still need to download and install the World Community Grid software. Download and installation tips are below

Download and Installation Tutorial

This tutorial assumes you have completed the steps above, if not, complete those first.

Step 1: Click here (http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/reg/ms/viewDownloadAgain.do) to download the BOINC client. Then click the "Download now" button.

Step 2: Click Run
http://i604.photobucket.com/albums/tt121/Liquid_Bale/Step2clickrun.jpg

Click run, again
http://i604.photobucket.com/albums/tt121/Liquid_Bale/Step2clickrunagain.jpg

Click Next
http://i604.photobucket.com/albums/tt121/Liquid_Bale/Step2clicknext.jpg

Agree to the Terms, and click Next
http://i604.photobucket.com/albums/tt121/Liquid_Bale/Step2Agree.jpg

Leave the install path directory to it's defaults
http://i604.photobucket.com/albums/tt121/Liquid_Bale/Step2leavedefault.jpg

Click on Install
http://i604.photobucket.com/albums/tt121/Liquid_Bale/Step2clicktoinstall.jpg

Click the check box to run the BOINC program, then click Finish.
If this is your first install of BOINC, you will be prompted to restart your machine before BOINC will launch.
http://i604.photobucket.com/albums/tt121/Liquid_Bale/Step2finish.jpg

After BOINC starts, you will be prompted to login. Your login information is whatever you registered with at World Community Grid.
http://i604.photobucket.com/albums/tt121/Liquid_Bale/Logininfo_1.png

Click Finish
http://i604.photobucket.com/albums/tt121/Liquid_Bale/Finish_2.png

Click on "Advanced View" at the bottom right corner.
http://i604.photobucket.com/albums/tt121/Liquid_Bale/Clickadvanced_3.png

Running BOINC in Advanced view is much easier to manage and I highly recommend it for new users.
http://i604.photobucket.com/albums/tt121/Liquid_Bale/Advancedview_4.png

That's it! You should now have BOINC fully installed. You don't have to do anything else. BOINC automatically runs by itself, and updates the work it completes automatically.

WCG setup guide by aldamon (http://www.hardforum.com/member.php?u=3678) from [H]ard|OCP

1. Click here (http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/reg/viewRegister.do) to register for the WCG project. Enter your ID, password, Email address, etc. Click Continue.
2. Under Available Projects, select the projects you would like to crunch or select Participate in All Projects to crunch all of the WCG Projects. Click Continue.
3. The download screen displays but I recommend downloading the generic BOINC client instead of the default WCG client because it is updated more frequently. In another window or tab, click here (http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php) to download BOINC.
4. Back on the WCG registration page, since you've downloaded BOINC from another source, scroll down to the bottom of the Download page, and click clicking here to explore the rest of World Community Grid.
5. Under Join a Team, click To search for a team to join, click here.
6. Under Contains, enter RedRaider Technology. Click Search.
7. Scroll down and click RedRaider Technology . Under Team Control Panel, Click join this team.
8. Install the BOINC client. Instead of installing the default settings, install with the Advanced options and deselect Use BOINC Screensaver. We're [H]ard. We're not interested in running BOINC in a screensaver :p. After installing, restart your system.
9. After Windows finishes booting, the Attach to Project window displays. Click Next.
10. The Choose a Project window displays. Select World Community Grid. click Next.
11. Enter your WCG Username and Password. Click Next.
12. Click Finish. BOINC runs. BOINC starts and BOINC Manager are loaded into the task bar automaticallly on startup.
13. In BOINC Manager, click Advanced > Preferences. Choose your options. Click OK.

LMAO CM, yeah it gets pretty bad. The only thing I've found that helps the urge, is to just buy more rigs to crunch!

Hell, before you know it you'll be putting rigs on to crunch that don't even belong to you!

Baleful
04-15-2009, 05:54 AM
Hey Silverion77, thanks for being a part of the team. This is what I do for heavy gaming:

Switch to Advanced View, Under Activity, I press suspend. This will keep it paused until you tell it to run again.

99% of the time I just let it run at 100% though, only a few of the more demanding games will want more resources.

If you don't run it from the installed directory, boinccmd checks against the gui_rpc_auth.cfg file.

Check

Thanks slpdLoad! Apparently after you install it from the repository, it starts the daemon without --allow_remote_gui_rpc. After adding it in my default config and restarting the daemon, I was able to run boinc_cmd anywhere.

Different WU are worth different amounts of points, it depends mostly on the length of time you and others took to complete it. If you check out the WCG web site you can see how many points each WU was worth and if the value was changed after you returned the WU. Some projects seem to be worth more than others but it varies so I stopped keeping track
