OK story goes:

I had an EK Supreme on a loop with DDC3.2 w/ XSPC top, PA 120.2 and magicool 250ml res. with 1/2" tubing
I had a AC AquagratiX block on my 4870X2 with DDC 3.2 w/ XSPC top and BI GTS 360 with 3/8" tubing.

Sold my EK and ordered a HK 3.0 CU block and am waiting on the group buy for my HK 4870X2 blocks.

So today I got my HK 3.0 and put it on my i7. had extra pump so thought wtf. so my loop goes res->DDC->DDC->PA 120.2-BI GTS 360-> HK 3.0-> res. with 3/8" tubing throughout. Love having two loops but it is a pain in the ass to route....

I can tell I have more flow than before but my temps are worse than with my EK and PA 120.3. I was thinking it was the restrictive BI GTS360 but I can feel some pretty good flow coming out of the block.... What gives?

Edit:

before I was idling mid 30's loading 55c with EK at 4.0Ghz.
now idling 40c load high 60's and 70c on one core.... this blows ass!

Bad block? I notice the block sits awfully close to the caps next to the socket of my EVGA X58 board but I can slip a piece of paper in between so that is not it. I have the block mounted with the inlet directly above the outlet.

Any thoughts? Ditch the extra pump and rad? Can't really see that as the culprit. Plan on changing the BI out for an XSPC RX rad later.

you should try the same loop as you had originally but swap the ek for the hk

try remounting and reorientating your block.

what fans are you using BI rad?

I don't want to state the obvious but have you tried reseating the block?

yeah it sounds like a problem with the mount... an air pocket in the tim perhaps

Remounted again. I am using YL D12SH12's on both rads.. TIM looked nice and even, but this time I used a little less and the temps are the same.... Don't have the little divider in there either.

So when I get the chance I will just set it up like I had it before, just HK, PA 120.2 and one DDC 3.2 with XSPC top. Still think the extra DDC with XSPC top would power through the BI GTS 360....

What orientation should I try?

Keep flipping it till you find one that works.

I believe you have a mounting issue...

OK. Was hoping this was going to work as any other way the logo is sideways or upside down...

Yeah, I am anal on some stuff....

Where can I find an exploded view of the i7. Curious as to how the die sits under the heat spreader...

Thanks, but I had found the one from the guy that tried reomving the heat spreader from the dead 965...

Turning the block 90 degrees counter clockwise did the trick... Now have the outlet to the right of the inlet so both barbs are on a horizontal plane.

Much better temps.

can you post a pic for us?

Can you show us a pic of your setup!

It will help us to collect data on how to mount these bad boys.

Don't mind the cheap Home Depot tubing..... threw away my good stuff as it was all milky inside.... there is a couple bad spots from where they zip tied it too tight.... but was surprised when it glowed under uv....

that tubing looks good under uv!

what are your temps now?

idle:
33-31-33-32 191x21 1.42v in windows vdroop enabled
load:
50-48-50-48 191x21 1.39v

Using MX-2... and just the dot in the center of cpu method.

so slightly better temps than your supreme (~-5c).

nice result

Glad it worked out for you...

Also remember, adding the second DDC will sometimes not help as much as expected due to the extra heat dump added to the loop from the pump.
Depends on what part of the flow curve you are on.

could you test 2 ddc 1 pa rad and the HK please.

I didn't bother with the dual DDC and single PA 120.2 after Martin shared his findings... Am now running just PA 120.2 and one DDC with XSPC top and getting same temps as with 2 DDC and PA120.2 + BI GTS 360. From the looks of it about the same flow too... Heheh damn GTS is restrictive.
