Well here's my work in progress. Putzing around with it since last September. Hasn't really picked up speed till the case was done which was last week. Then all the pieces get installed. (now) I had this idea right around the Time Langer first posted his intial PrometheusCU at XS.org.
I was upset ( I got over it) cause I was like that fucker stole my idea. :D
So I was like copper smopper, I'm going to do it in gold and brass. So that's what I set out to do.

Here's the 1st shipment back in September.
http://i510.photobucket.com/albums/s345/eternalightwithin/DSCN3559-1.jpg

Everything taken out and grouped
http://i510.photobucket.com/albums/s345/eternalightwithin/DSCN3564-1.jpg

Then put back into the box from FrozenCPU. All the shit in that little box lol.
http://i510.photobucket.com/albums/s345/eternalightwithin/DSCN3565-1.jpg
with Required Foot shot

Working on the case now.
Mcmaster-Carr is next in line to Jesus. Thank you Mcmaster, I love you. :coke:

So overkill, yep Rivet overkill. I went with the most beefy rivets around.
These babies are aluminum rivets with a steel mandrel. Good for over 1/2 ton of shear and tensile stress. :D

Here's the rivets for the frame.
http://i510.photobucket.com/albums/s345/eternalightwithin/DSCN3617.jpg

Putting the Frame together
http://i510.photobucket.com/albums/s345/eternalightwithin/DSCN3620.jpg

Finishing it up. Yea for CUBES.
http://i510.photobucket.com/albums/s345/eternalightwithin/DSCN3622.jpg

By the way, most of the aluminum is from Mcmaster too.
I used Grade 5083 High Strength Super Corrosion Resistant for the frame and 5086 grade regular strength super corrosion resistance for the sheet metal. Top and bottom piecess of the frame was made up of 1/8" Square tube and U-channel, which was alternated. Side framing was 1/8" L-channel. Side pieces were riveted with flush mouthing aluminum/steel rivets.

Missing some intermediate pictures. (Will post them later from other computer)

Here's the finished case with motherboard tray and rad/PSU holes cutout
BTW, all this was done by hand. I basically used a hand drill, recipricating handsaw, and a with a bit of dremel thrown in. ;) Oh and a double side file. Wow a stupid file and yet I couldn't live with out it. It allowed me to NOT slash my wrists(or any other tender parts) on sharp edges.\
I did manage to cut myself but not as bad as my 18 month old. We still don't know how she did it. BUt yes she was playing happily, smearing red blood all over my case. Decorating it for her daddy I suppose. :o

Anyways...

http://i510.photobucket.com/albums/s345/eternalightwithin/DSCN3727.jpg

Added two bottom strips for bracing.

http://i510.photobucket.com/albums/s345/eternalightwithin/DSCN3730.jpg

Fucked up the rad cutouts. I used paper and markers to do it and I got it mostly right. But the perfetionist in me is PISSED.
If I did it again I know how'd I'd do it. Funny, at the time you think one way is fine, but after you screw up, it's like Ohhh should have done it THIS way instead of THAT way. ;):p

Here I got my scythes S-Flex SFF21G's in, Primochill LRT, and some bitspower compression goodness. :D
Damn, expensive shit. Better last me 20 years.... and no I'm NOT kidding.
http://i510.photobucket.com/albums/s345/eternalightwithin/DSCN3737.jpg

Putting fans on BIX480's
http://i510.photobucket.com/albums/s345/eternalightwithin/DSCN3733.jpg

Fans on and wires chained together. With gry vinyl stripping from LOWES
http://i510.photobucket.com/albums/s345/eternalightwithin/DSCN3744.jpg

Rads installed
http://i510.photobucket.com/albums/s345/eternalightwithin/DSCN3746.jpg
http://i510.photobucket.com/albums/s345/eternalightwithin/DSCN3745.jpg

I took out three screws from the PSU (The 4th one I couldn't as it would void the warrenty) Flipped PSU over and screwed down tight to bottom, using longer M3 screws from LOWES.
All threaded rods, nuts, washers, and screws you see (and don't) are brass.

So this is where I'm at now. Installing PSU, Meanwell unit, Iwaki placeholder, and other related stuff.
http://i510.photobucket.com/albums/s345/eternalightwithin/DSCN3748.jpg

So PSU under MB tray, and Iwaki and Meanwell on the other end, like this...
And this is where you can help me. I'm running ideas in my head about item placement and well I'd like your input.

The case is 26"x24"x24" (LxWxH). I have a EK 400mL res that's 16" long.
I want to have an 12 3.5" drive cage in there (8HDDs and 4SDDs, room for ~4 5.25" bays. (2 DVD drive, an Aquaero, and a LCD screen.

I might put one more brace adjancent to the other one, across from the MB tray. I plan on using those to braces as places to mount stuff too. ie, res, HDD cage, and 5.25 dvd panel.

So what do you guys think. Any ideas on how to organize remaining space?

GO Red Team Dragon. :rave:

Sincerely,

David

P.S. Thanks Red for the hard work with these groupbuys.

GO Red Team Dragon. You saw it first here at RRR forums.:duece::D

Ohh, yeah almost forgot... :coke::coke::coke::coke::coke::coke::coke::coke:

The MSI blew up in my brothers rig, so I gave him mine and it died within a day too. So I said, I'm getting me an asus. So I got the M4A79 Deluxe and a Phenom X3 720

Let us know if you unlock that 4th core!

Will do. Though I just read that peeps using 800 series CPU now have hack to get full L3 cache with 3 cores. ?!? I thought we got that already? >.<
Well I hope I can do that with this one. Rather have that than the extra core.

I'm very upset. The bitspower compressions are ever so slightly too big for the HK block. If watercool.de had spaced the holes even 500 microns farther apart, they would fit. As it is now, the spike finish of the BP fittings lock together. Guess I'm going to have to sand off my beautiful silver plating.
I feel if I take off the spikes on the sleeve part of the BP fittings it will fit for sure. Shouldn't have to do that though

So yeah, any compression fitting that is for 5/8" OD tubbing and larger won't fit. Only 3/8"ID:1/2"OD works. Anything for 5/8"OD will be slightly too big and 3/4"OD forget it.

Now that I think about it, I DO have two rotaries.... sigh, I was hoping to use those on my RAID card.

Also, question... I pipe dope the threads and screw them in holes.
Most of the time, it will go down and progressively get harder to turn. Grommet sinks into grove and spreads out slightly.
BUT sometimes I screw the fitting down and the grommet doesn't go into groove but gets stuck and the fitting gets stuck. I suddenly hit a "Brick wall" feeling with screwing it down. Now the height difference between the two methods described is only say 500 microns, maybe 1mm max. Yet I'm uneasy about the different feeling I get when I screw them in. Almost like sliding versus wet rubber sticking feeling. You guys encounter that? Know what I mean, lol ?

David

P.S> Could use some input on placement of things.

Here are some pictures of where it stands now.

I need help with reservoir placement (longest EK res 400mm?) and tube routing.
Keep in mind, I have two 90 rotaries not used yet. (as well as some regular 45s and compression fittings)

one question, how do u have those screwes secured on your rad? i really like that idea.

also, ballz0r has a sweet method of mounding that ek400 on top of your rd-30....

The thought of having 2 systems in one case and being able to actually do it is attractive isn't it? Bluescreening and posting here at the same time to bitch about it FTW!!!:D

I retapped the rad holes with a 8-32 machine screw.
Put a nut under the hole. Screw in rod.
http://i510.photobucket.com/albums/s345/eternalightwithin/DSCN3733.jpg

Put fan on top and put washer down on top and then flipped it over.
put down fan guard, a washer, and a nut to secure to case bottom.

http://i510.photobucket.com/albums/s345/eternalightwithin/DSCN3759-1.jpg

Also, don't have a RD30 yet. Waiting on Red/Ricey to come up with something.

What you see there is a ver 2 DDC.
Which brings me to another problem. The barbs on that are for 3/8"+ clamp. 7/16" is just big enough to slide on without any resistance. Afraid clamp won't make it watertight.

Damn, I want computer up and running now.

OK, update. Here is what I got so far.... Have headache and my fingers are raw.

OK. I probably fucked my MB 10 times over by now, but in case I didn't. I'm going to try boot her up for 15 secs max. Before I do that I need to know if this is ok...

This picture shows the NB WB touching two solid metal can caps.

thats a hella giant custom case! do you mind if i ask what is the size/dimension? good luck man!!

Eternalightwith

It's 22" tall 22' deep and 26" long
Almost a cube :D

Edit: IT boots!?!?! YES! Now if only I had two clamps I could add in the water. ;.;

Anyone have a DDC top they don't want?

Edit2: So I was tightening down the NB block, finger tight. But then I got strong hands.
All of the sudden I hear a sound... the sound you get when you have something under tension and it slips off and hits something else, say wood.
I kind of thump.

I was like awww shit! There goes the chip.... So I power it up and it boots. So I turn it off and loosen the block holddowns maybe 1/8 of a revolution and boot it up again..... <shrug>

FInishing up the tubing and waiting till tomorrow afternoon to hit up Lowes and get some small wormclamps for the DDC. Damn I wish I had had some foresight.

Let us know if you unlock that 4th core!

Didn't work, Here's what I tried.

Put in one 2gb stick of ram

downgraded BIOS to ver. 082.

COmputer wouldn't start, freaked. Heart started palpitating. Ok, breath.... Breathe.

Clear CMOS. 10 sec.

Boots. Go in reset to defaults. reboot.

Set ACC to per core at -2 and -4. Set ACC to ALL Cores.
turned on and off AI AUTO Tweaker

Everytime it would say, Please press F1 to go into BIOS.
Press F2 to reset to defaults and continue boot.

Sooo, Does that mean, it's a bad core and I got bad luck? ;)

David

P.S. I upgraded to BIOS 2202 from 3/30/09. Turned off some performance sapping crap like spread spectrum, etc.

AI OC tweak: Manual. CPU Ratio: 17x
Booted and currently crunching at 3.41GHz no errors. ie. Voltage still on AUTO :D

Sure. What chip is yours? Mine's a DPAW

Edit: Having trouble with the ASUS one. more my ignorance than anything. Last OCing gig for me was my athlon 3200+ ;)

Anyways, I lied last night... well I was mistaken :p
Right now I have it BOINC stable at 3.4GHz on core one and 3.31GHz on Cores 2 & 3

I think it was one core that was failing at stock voltage last night that kicked out the two scrambled WUs.

Right now I'm looking for max CPU clock. I have the HT/NB/Mem down to 1.8GHz/1.8GHz/667MHz respectively. To rule them out obviously.;)

Here is where I'm at. BOINC stable for 12 hours.

Any more NB and it will hard lock. GOing to try to boot at 3.4 In a little bit. By the way, this is with voltages set at Auto in the BIOS. I'm confused with the NNB voltage settings as there are 3 of them! Which ones do what?

P.S. If AOD is to be trusted , notice how it says all those NB voltages are at stock. If so, that's impressive

Kayin
04-29-2009, 10:14 AM
Raise actual NB voltage in the BIOS to about 1.2, 1.21.

Not too bad, though with PhII we can use the multi to better effect, unless you have mad cooling on VRM and good RAM. HTT can get wonky to mess with too-highest I've ever seen stable was 2600, I got to 2450 stable.
