only other place i seen in here to post over clocking is the cheater over clocker and im not a cheater so i hope im posting in the correct spot. i own corsair ram 1600 7-7-7-20 cm3x2048-1600c7dhx to be exact.
i have my cpu over clocked from 1333 fsb 3.0 to 1800 4.0 on water cooled.
now problem!!! im not at all very good doing ram and scared to death on this part i told myself from day 1 i would never over clock my ram well guess what yeah well anyways stock is 1600 i was able to get to 1650 with the timings 7-7-7-20 witch is some nice timings so i turned it up by 40 got to 1690 pc turned on blue screened so i turned up the timings 8-8-8-20 turned on and stable!!! i want to reach 1800 the same freq as my cpu. volts is 1.90 witch is stock why so high on these stick i dont no. but do i need to increase volts? try another 40 if blue screen turn up timings? to 9-9-9-20 or should i just turn down my cpu to match my ram i have now. 1700 witch i think would be 3.50 oo and my ram has the dhx ram cooler and i also have a kingston hyperx ram cooler on top with 2 60mm fans blowing on them. thinking about just water cooling them to then turn them up to 1800. please help!!!

I very highly doubt additional cooling will help you overclock your RAM.
Ok, I'm assuming that this is older DDR3 from the 1.9v stock RAM volts. I don't think I'd up that very much more, maybe to 2.0v or so at the most. I don't know how well RAM overclocked back then, but 200MHz isn't unheard.
I'd loosen your timings to at least 9-9-9-24 2T and see where that gets you. If that doesn't work, try 10-10-10-28 2T, but at that point, the clock speed you gain will be more than negated by the longer timings.

Agreed. Loosening timings is the answer. If you have a SMP profile (i think that is what it is called) then I have heard it driving up voltage way too high. 1.9V seems high and at the accepted limit.
Are you using all manual settings in the BIOS?

You gotta remember that before the i7's came out and Intel said that over 1.65v was bad, manufacturers had DDR3 up to 2v or 2.1v (higher than DDR2 JEDEC standard).
Its not bad (chipsets can handle much more), but definitely needs to loosen those timings!

XMP and yes that's what I've read as well.

Shit, I seem to remember seeing RAM being run at 2.2V, and I recall that, at the time, at least one company more or less said that they would honor the warranty no matter what voltage you used.

Yup; It stands for "EXtreme Memory Profile (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_Presence_Detect#Extreme_Memory_Profile_.28X MP.29)."

thanks so much for the help!!! i did losen them to 8-8-8-20 and am up to 1700 i think im just going to stop there and then lower my cpu to 1700 then synch them. or maybe try 9-9-9-24 and try stepping up to 1750 hmmm ill reboot give it a whirl and check back in..

IME XMP profiles crank things up WAY high... It raised the voltage of my IMC to frigging 1.7V, not good.

i made it to 1750 on 8-8-8-20 what im doing guy do ut hink i should even do this i mean 1600 7-7-7-20 default isnt that pretty fast anyways.. if i over clock will it shorten the life of the ram and cpu?

xmp is only used on 1366/1156/5 boards his ram was pre XMP. if it is still operating at 1.9v then you should have the older ram with that requirement. take a screen shot of cpu-z on the memory tab and spd tab please.

well hel I just switched out to mushkin redline enhanced. 6-8-6-24 it has it set to auto 2t but i think they go 1t i do believe 1 t is better.. anyways i was able to hit 1700 with out changing any timings at all.. with volts 1.65 then i read some one was able to put theres to 7-9-724 and hit 1800 so i tried that lol wont do that again. maybe 9-9-9-24 would hit 1800 but i dont no if i should up the volts.. i hate over clocking ram. ud think some one that can over clock a cpu should be able to do ram no problem. what i want to be able to do is get my ram to 1800 like my cpu so my ration is 1:2 instead of 16:30 unless that dont matter. but i have it right now unlinked and i do no haven them linked u get better scores. pfff im so confused.

try 1800 @ 8-9-8-26-1T 1.65v with some decent northbridge volts you will hit that no problem. I think my review of them (mushkin redlines) is on here somewhere but it was done with a lynnfield cpu which has a much better memory controller on it. ram overclocking takes a lot of time and patience and a little luck really. that and homework on what the separate timings do doesn't hurt, I guess I could do something of that likes for the ram section here for those that dont fully grasp yet how much timings impact performance and why. Dont be discouraged it takes time man. also maybe screenshots of your memory options in the bios would help me help you.

well thank you so much overclocking 101 im not sure what volts to give to the north bridge tho.. of course int he bios shows grey green and red.. red meaning way to high green means good and grey means in the middle.. ill give it a while id love to hit 1800 then link my cpu together. ands the ration wil be down to 1:2
