View Full Version : TFC Triebwerk: Radiator Fan Concept

I saw the post about the Sharkoon fan earlier and I remembered the TFC rad fan concept.
Sharkoon may have devised modular fans, but TFC will soon be offering a fan that can be 'daisy chained'.

LINK for more details (http://translate.google.com/translate?prev=hp&hl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.hardwareluxx.de%2Fcommunity%2Fs howthread.php%3Ft%3D547216%26highlight%3D55mm&sl=de&tl=en)

TFC Triebwerk: The ultimate radiator fan?
We actually cannot answer this question at the moment. But the first concept pictures really catch some interest.

"The Feser Company” (TFC) already gave prove of their water cooling know-how. Their Xchanger 480 radiator beat all the competition in the last issue of our German PCGH Extreme magazine and the Xchanger 360 impressed with equipment performance.

For the heat exchangers of water cooling systems people usually use normal case fans and that actually works quite well. But how well are those fans doing if compared to a device that has been designed to be used on radiators? In February we will possibly know the answer because then the TFC Triebwerk, as the new fan is called, will be released.

The device is developed in cooperation with the experts at Noisebloker who already offer the powerful but silent Multiframe. The TFC Triebwerk reveals several special features:
The fans are delivered with two connector cables and can be connected with each other when mounted onto a radiator - no more annoying cable management. Furthermore the so called dead centre in the middle of the fan has been minimized since the fan has a shroud. The position of the fan blades suggests that the Triebwerk (translates with engine or possibly power plant) lives up to its name and will suck more air through the cooling fins of the radiator than any other comparable fan. The Triebwerk is of course, like the Mutliframe, uncoupled from the radiator with rubber spacers.

TFC's Triebwerk is supposed to be available around February; final prices have not been announced, yet. There are supposed to be three different models that differ in features, fan speed and scope of delivery. We estimate that the slimmed down version will cost around 20 Euro and the top model around 20 Euro, which would be comparable to Noiseblocker's Multiframe. You can find the first concept drawings in our gallery. Please bear in mind, that those pictures show rendered material and that the final version of the Triebwerk could differ in form and color.

Depending on the specs of this unit it could present itself as a very serious contender.
It looks pretty sleek, it has built in vibration dampening, and they can be daisy chained... assuming it will deliver at least 125cfm methinks it's promising.

It looks as though they extended the shroud of the fan beyon the thickness of the actual blades - incorporating a shroud into the fan itself. Making the fan 55mm thick.

Also if you look at the way the blade part it mounted; it floats in the middle supported on the corners by the rubber mounts - quite genius.

I too heard the price will be dear - @20euro, but it's all speculation still.

First-comers will pay the usual "wow tax"... give it a few months and once the hype wears off it'll be -slightly- more reasonable.

For sure.

Performance and quiet too.

I'd pay more for a fan that somehow gave me higher CFM and less noise.

Here is me thinking that they should get rid of the inbuilt shroud and different colour corner pieces and cut some of the cost of making the fan. I guess the problem is that they have chosen for a very thin connection to the motor and don't do it on both sides so they need to make it out of metal. The cost implications however in comparison to the minor impact it will have on performance are going to really hurt its sales!

First and only rad I bought from them was a 360. It came in its original package with all its contents so I know it wasnt second hand. It had bent and rusted fins on both sides of the rad, the performance was horrible compared to my BIX even when I tried using it in the same setup, and about 2-3 months after I installed it in the system it was going in, it sprung a leak, never did find out from where, but it wasnt from where I had the screws installed.

*shrug* Whole thing screamed cheap to me from the beginning. I'll stick to BIX from now on tyvm.

Go ahead and load that bitch down with a couple video cards, an oc'd i7, NB and mosfets and see if you can't fry an egg on the end tank in a few minutes.

If they wanted to make something that would be effective it should have at least been a quad rad. but I guess that would have been like 350 bucks and 400 if it was the prince edition in white...minus the fans.:D

If I bought one fan for 35.00 I wouldn't be able to look at myself in the mirror...I mean lets face it..it's just a fan, and fans blow air. The faster it goes, the more air it blows. Some have better pressure than others, some less noise, but isn't going to amount to a hill of beans as far as getting your moneys worth out of a 35.00 fan.

Not like that fan is going to change the face of LC as we know it or anything. Not going to magically drop your temps 2c over another similarly rated fan.

At least that's the way I see it. For 35.00 per fan, I'd be expecting one of those good ole fashion slobbery blow jobs every morning when I wake up.

Say what you will about TFC but they certainly are trying new things. I'll never knock anyone for that.
