Anyone have any idea when this series might be released? I just got my queue to step up to a GTX580 for only $30 (pay shipping only).

The problem is, right after I dropped $1100 on a pair of GTX480s and and the $250 for a pair of BlackFreezers, the 5XX series was unexpectedly released.

I want to stepup one of my 480s and buy a second 580 but dont want to get hit with the same shit again as I did with the 480s, having the GTX6XX series released a month later.

Oh ya, 2X EVGA GTX480 w/Black Freezers coming soon to the F/S threads. $425/card a fair price?

Welcome to computers, I hope you enjoy your stay

Seriously, you'll run yourself completely ragged trying to worry about this. Your best bet, in making a purchase: Purchase something that will last your needs for as long as possible.

Now, only you can truly gauge that. Your biggest factor is gonna be your gaming preferences. 1) Do you use 2560x1600? 2) Do you crank all the eye candy as high as it will go?

For me, my lowly 4870 and 4850 in CF has held me over for the past two years easy. I'm definitely starting to feel the need for more power now, but you get point.

Well they just released the 580 little bit ago
heres a statement from a ceo from nvidia
"Kepler", due next year; and "Maxwell", due in 2013
And currently the 2 480's would have held for a couple more years.
Theres still alooot of power in them cards

A pair of 480s will suit you just fine for playing most every game currently on the market on a 30 inch monitor or triple 21/22 inch setup with most if not all the eye candy enabled. The exceptions would be Metro 2033 and, of course, Crysis.

Unless there is a specific game you are experiencing sub 30 fps then I would recommend you save your money and wait a year to invest in some new shit from Intel.

I realize this. I am not new to the game. It just pissed me off that right after I bought the 480s, the 580s were released almost unannounced.

oxy, I aint in it for gaming only. I have yet to have played anything that came close to stressing this system. Havnt tried Metro or the new Crysis yet though. I am more interested in benching. I want numbers! And, without getting to retarded, keeping bleeding edge.

Thanks for reply guys, appreciated.

It'll be awhile. Go for it. 28nm isn't catching on as quickly as expected.

This.

Hear what, do your upgrades in a stagnant time in the industry, like when the i7 920 just came out, or rather, when the D0 i7 920 came out. xD

Better than 2 570 chips on one pcb board.

Not interested in a 590. I will wait for best 'next gen'.

Not saying the 590 will be a shit card, but I am sure if I wait and get a 590, the 6XX will be released the day after with my luck.

If the 590's performance is comparative to what a 295 can put out for a single card, it will be a kick-ass single card setup. My GTX295 is still rockin' hard in my son's PC. He is playing BBC2, Black Ops, Mafia2.......... with no complaints on a Q8400 system. Even when he was running the E7500, game play was more than acceptable.

You are probably right, however two 590s will run faster than 3 580s more than likely. Nvidia cards scale very nicely up to the tri-sli mark but for whatever reason the drivers for quad-sli have historically been shit. Just FYI, in case quad-sli was on the table.

And more than likely the chips used will be 570s not 580s, taking power requirements into consideration.

just OC the shit out of your 480's. No reason to stress about this until you are actually ready to upgrade your GPU's. Hell I just bought two 580's and two AC 580 blocks for them. I will not be buying any new video cards unless I add another 580 when the prices drop. My system will be pretty much the same except for an upgraded SSD for the next two years.

CPU's aren't going to making any leaps and bounds for awhile due to the power that we already have. The die process is going to get smaller, but as far as the computing power I see it staying close to around the 990x level for the next year or so. This is not by having expert knowledge, just my opinion, so take it with a grain of salt.

590's will be out in the next couple of weeks and I would rather have 2 of those than 4 580's and 2 PSU's. As far as your 480's price I will be selling the same cards with blocks for 300 each, the cards are worth about 225 and the blocks 75.

don't really care about the 590's. IMO all dual-GPU cards are just screaming for driver issues. nvidia usually does a much better job than AMD in that regard, but there are still issues. Two 590's will likely need two PSU's too. LOL

Totally diverging, but just double checking....
You only bought 2 cards and you are going to step one up to the GTX 580. How then are you going to sell 2 cards? When you step up, you gotta give them back the original so that would leave you with 1 card and 2 blocks correct?

Otherwise, theres a word for what you're experiencing. Obsolescence and the reality is that it will never go away. There will ALWAYS be the next best thing and each person deals with it differently. Some layout for whats the best now and deals with it till they're done and don't care about the "next big thing". That's not my personal tastes, so others do as I do...go middle ground and then get something better when it seems right. It will most likely be earlier than the first option, but it plays out better for some.

Just do it and not regret it....;)
