Anybody know of a good place to buy them? Can't find any at newegg, scan has a nice Sony Blu-Ray slot loader, but 80 quid is a little high and I'd rather buy in dollars so I don't have to pay VAT.

Something like this: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/sony-bc-5640h-01-slot-blu-ray-combo-drive-6x-bd-r-(reader-only)-8xdvd-rw-slim-sata-oem, but just DVD is fine, needs to be sata though.

Going to go in an FT03 (http://www.silverstonetek.com/products/p_contents.php?pno=FT03&area=usa) HTPC build.

I was looking into this as well as I was thinking of building a small system with an FT03 and a P67 mATX board (before they got yanked).

The options seem to be pretty slim (no pun intended :) ). These were the ones I was looking at:

Sony AD-7690H (http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Optiarc-AD-7690H-DVD-RAM-internal/dp/tech-data/B004CJKVO0)

Sony BC-5640H (http://www.excaliberpc.com/600332/sony-optiarc-bc-5640h-01-4x-bd-rom.html) (the one you mentioned)

Silverstone SOD02 (http://www.sundialmicro.com/silverstone-slim-optical-drive-sstsob02b_2101_2037.html)

There seem to be some other odd ball ones on Google shopping as well, but they look like mostly older drives, i.e. surplus or system pulls.

Thanks guys, slim pickings indeed. Figured I wouldn't have to spend so much for a dvd drive any more, may just wait for blu-ray versions to drop a little in price. The FT03 just hit Scan and I haven't changed any hardware around in a few months, I'm getting that itch...

143 bones for a slim BluRay???? :bird: that. Guess my new media center's going to go awhile without a drive.

Thanks for the topic ND40oz!

Yeah, I know, not even a blu-ray burner either. Hopefully with the release of the Sandy Bridge laptops taking place over the next month or two, we'll see more blu-ray equipped lappys which will bring the prices down.

Yeah they do seem ridiculously expensive maybe just wait a bit?
