I need a bit of input as to what blocks I will be using...
I am ordering a pair of 4870x2s. Wife says get it all now, no buying a piece at a time like I did last year. I do not disagree. However, I have a mathematical dilemma in front of me.
I will be flashing the cards to the ASUS TOP BIOS, as well as doing the Rivatuner 1.3v mod, and if that's not enough for me (if the cards still have headroom) will do the vGPU and vMEM mods. I have the soldering iron, pots and ability to do so (my first vmod was on a Shuttle AN35N-Ultra for vDIMM.)
However, I will be using fullcover blocks, and to fit with the theme of Mithril, only two blocks work. One is the AC block, the other is the EK. The DD blocks look like ass, the XSPC blocks are just as bad, and I don't want the FUFUFUFUFUFUFUFU blocks, simply put. I am of the opinion that the additional mass/surface area of the EK will give me better temps, but can anybody tell me if I've figured right? Simple mass would probably give me a better temp delta for sure, but will the larger channels on the EK also help as well?
Before anyone says it, I can make my own bloody standoffs and I've been doing FC blocks (specifically EK and FUFUFUFUFUFUFUFU) since the 6800 series without killing anything. This is not about build quality of EK, it is a mathematical question of will additional mass help temps on vmodded cards.
