I’m just wondering if anyone with a better understanding of power draw than me could give me an idea of how many GTX480 FTW cards (http://www.evga.com/products/moreInfo.asp?pn=015-P3-1489-AR&family=GeForce%20400%20Series%20Family) a Coolermaster Silent Pro Gold 1200w (http://www.coolermaster.com/product.php?product_id=6663) would be able to handle along with an SR-2 with a couple of X5650’s

Thanks for any help.

My sr-2 pulls about 200w loaded if that helps

I guess that depends on how much you plan on pushing your gear...

Stock, 480s use 250w each when loaded. So taking ballz0r's numbers into consideration you might be able to load 4 into one rig, again at stock.

There was a video of some guy who overclocked his rig and had 4 480s running with two PSUs and he had overclocked the hell out of everything and was pushing both psus to pretty hard.

I couldn't find that one but I found this one that is probably appropriate: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iEIkmuVvldA

Cheers guys - looks like it could be boarder line and then there's the heat dump to consider :duece:

An overclocked 3 way setup with a 980x managed to pull 1100 watts from the wall, not sure the efficiency of the Tagans they were using though, 85% efficient it's putting out 935 watts though.

Probably pushing it with the coolermaster, the Silverstone 1500w might be a better choice. The ST1500 is listed for use with a 4 way GTX580 setup, no reason it shouldn't be able to handle two 95 watt TDP X5650s with it.

I'd just get a pair of mid range PSUs in the 700 to 800 range (one likely being higher powered than the other in order to supply power to the MOBO and CPU and 2 cards while the other powering the remaining GPUs and whatever other odds and ends. This would enable you to split the power draw across two circuits if you wanted to avoid upgrading the circuit breakers in your home.

Yeah the more i look into it the more its looking like i'm pushing things but i've already got the PSU plus i don't have the space to add another so i'm kinda stuck for the time being.

Bit of a shame really as EVGA just expressed me 4 cards today and i was hoping to use them all for Cebit next month so i might just install them anyway and hope for the best as i'm not going to have much time for testing :(

Thanks again for the input

Well... you could send me one of the 4 and only put 3 into the rig! Problem solved! :D
