I had a friend clear my cmos on an MSI NF980-G65 and he did it while the power was on and the computer was running.
Now it won't post or anything. The lights come on and the fans turn but no love on post.
My question is: would the mobo be the only damaged part or could that affect the cpu, ram, gpu's etc.?
Warning to anyone considering this board: she is a tempermental bitch. She hates ddr3, she doesn't play well with stock timings and the stable envelope is very small.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Id try removing all power (cmos batt also) and resetting the cmos again.
Ive never known someone to try this with the power engaged though.

hard to see what one is the cmos chip or is socketed
zedsed420 you know anyone that has the same MB for to hotflash bios chip
for with power-on resetting cmos has flushed the data out of chip making MB brain dead
don't know if msi supply programed cmos's like some other manufators uses socketed chips

The cmos jumper is just below the ram banks. It's the light green jumper. As for the actual cmos chip, dunno. I don't know anyone with this board so hotflash is not possible.

I dont see a socketed BIOS chip either. Looks like new mobo time!

not with EDS soldering iron and socket with correct bios loaded

Do you think the other components are safe? 4 sticks of ddr3, 2 gtx260's, amd965be,etc.?

Even as much as I love soldering id leave this one alone. Its just not worth it.
That and zedsed420 stated that its a horrible mobo, think of this as a sign from above that its time for a new mobo :)

Hard to tell without using another mobo to test.

I have looked around for a replacement but no luck. AMD/Nvidia chipset combos for sli are hard to find. Do you guys have any recommendations? It has to run 2gpu's at x16 and be sli enabled and must accept the phenomII965 and ddr3 1600. Thanks guys.

8x works just fine, the board im on now is 8x x 8x and it works better than my old board that was 16x x 16x. Just stating that you dont need 16x even with the fastest GPUs today has to offer.
