Guys,

I expect a reply from EVGA on my RMA request within the next day or so. Only I seem to have "misplaced" a few of my stock heatsink mounting screws. These are the screws that have the springs attached.

I only have 5 out of 12! I don't ever throw screws away so I am sure tiny little fingers helped themselves to my stash.

Anyway, would anyone be willing to "loan" me your stock heatsink retention screws? I would be more than happy to return the screws once I get my GPUs back from EVGA as I will be putting the cards back under water.

Anyone feel like helping a retard out? :o

I still have mine from my EVGA GTX 285's ... most likely the same thing. Just PM me an address and I'll send a few your way.

I think I may know what happened to mine. Rather than little fingers it may have been my own stupidity. I may have put the screws inside the boxes for the Swiftech universal gpu blocks I gave away during the november crunchathon. I'll have to check in with the recipient to verify...

well evga may rma it without the screws, just ask them. they have a modder freindly rma, meaning guys that use waterblocks/aftermerket heatsinks are still under warranty

forget the thread locker compound, if use it will screw-up the hole, you have to run a tap in hole to clear out compound or use wire brush to remove old crap

forcing the screw back in a thread locker hole is asking for trouble, (binding)

you see why people say the head stripped

My biggest problem right now is not having enough to secure the heatsinks well enough for transit. In my opinion, two screws at opposite corners should do fine. But I only have 5 screws. So one of the cards has a heatsink that will bounce around on the gpu during transit. That worries me as I can see someone whipping out the warranty guidelines in regards to damage should there be any during transit.

The plastic housing sorta keeps the heatsink in one place. But I really would rather not give these guys a reason to kick back my RMA.

I looked to see who I sent my universal gpu blocks to and of course it is Greedseed who lives in motherfucking Belgium. So no chance of getting the screws back from him (not even sure if that's what happened to mine). Hell for all I know the package hasn't even been delivered to him yet...

This is what I have here at home. Total length appears to be shorter than the image you posted.

Mine are 7mm total length.

I don't think they will work honestly. I assume the springs are the same size so the threads on the 480 screws start a few mm after the spring while yours pretty much end at the spring.

Anyone else think they will work?

Looks like Marne was right. I contacted EVGA today to ask about returning the cards without all the screws. He said there would be only a few dollars charge for the screws, if they charge me at all. The good news is that it won't void my warranty by sending them in the way they are now...

So thanks for the contribution guys but it looks like I got worked up over nothing.
