hard to tell from the photos but it looks like heat/volt damage to me.
It might be on purpose that one shot looks like he might have smashed it or something, hard to tell.

Its hard to say but it looks like some scratches near the parts that are hammered. Was the card water cooled? Can you see the parts with the heat sink on the card? Need more info before I suggest you kick the guys ass.
Either way the guy owes you a new video card as I see it.

no its was just stock used like this

the thing i see is scratches and i can still see that it would make sense that it overvolted but the 2 components on the top and right bottom are damaged as well and they are damaged on the outside shell only ?

here is a better shot of the damage

It kind of looks like heat but the scratches bother me.

what bothers me the most is also the scratches ofc but also the solder is not to damaged on the back at all and the pin of the missing chip is bent back so far and no melting of the solder ?

also the other chips dont show sing of melting there are just chips of the cover missing and i dont smell any burn on that card noting

over-volt would be a good explanation but there are some factors that just dont fit

I can't see the scratches you're referring to; your pictures suck and/or I'm blind. Better pictures (like the first one in post #5, but with sharper focus) would likely help, and artsy pictures with shit focus (like the fourth picture in post #5) are absolutely useless.

From what I can see, it look like some components have exploded, and others look like they've partially melted. I'd say that these components were likely well outside their heat and/or power operation ranges.

I see three possible ways this damage occured:

First: As the result of an event outside the control of the user -- E.G. a power surge.

Second: As the result of deliberate non-malicious action by the user -- E.G. benchmarking.

Third: As the result of deliberate malicious action by the user -- E.G. heavily OC'ing and/or over-volting the card while it is under extremely high load conditions and inadequately cooled -- like running Furmark with the fan off.

how the fuck can you see that xD

the huge scratch under the missing chip
http://i992.photobucket.com/albums/af46/greedseed/Untitled-1.jpg

here under the damaged chip
http://i992.photobucket.com/albums/af46/greedseed/twotwo.jpg

but still how come only those 3 chips have damage ?? why are the others just left undamaged ?? they are also in the path ? and just the way they are damaged
they are chipt off not molten in any way ?

...the pin of the missing chip is bent back so far and no melting of the solder...

That would seem to be consistent with either the component being run outside spec enough to blow up (or just plain defective), or being pried off with tools...

To answer the first, I can't differentiate between scratches and the lint/dust on the card. Perhaps if it was cleaner, and the photos were in focus I would be able to see what you're talking about.

As for why only three chips appear damaged, it could be any number of reasons.

It looks like he took a screwdriver to it out of rage or something :/

Looks to me like it got really fucking hot. Some of the adjacent chips to the missing/exploded chip look partially fried as well.

Precisely. I can't see (too much dust/lint and poor focus) signs of "took a screwdriver to it" but I can see signs of "shit got hot and went pop."

i have posted this on multiple foras and the most of the people seem to say plain old sabotage
and i do think a burned out chip would look more like this
http://fs6.depauw.edu:50080/~jonathanstack/burnedchip.jpg

sins there is no burning or black residue around any of the chips or there is no bad smell or any good sing of a burned chip this is to me next to the comment everywhere els that this is just "made to look like a burn out"

but thanks for all the feedback guys ;) appreciate it

Looks like yer buddy fucked you over by fucking your card with a screw driver. kick em in the sack real hard. Also, I would say either you or he is a smoker. I believe that is dust sticking to nicotine around the chips where it would have been warm. Defiantly looks deliberate. Either that, or it was carelessly chucked aside. How the fuck else would a scratch that bad get there.

Looks like a screwdriver to me. If he was trying to scrape those components off, they would shatter like that. If it was from heat damage there would be burn and char marks.

Maybe im blind but this is what im seeing.
Blue indicates scratches
Green indicates screwdriver location

yes you even forgot some blue on the right damaged component ( 96 40*) under it at the single leg side

edit :

http://i992.photobucket.com/albums/af46/greedseed/one-1.jpg

it could all be a burn out but it just boders me
a overvolt could nod create these marks and just its too much of a coincidence for them to only be there on the damaged components and only on the damaged components

Its a simple enough soldering job, you just need to find those components.
