I currently have an intel X25-V 40gb SSD drive that I have Windows 7 and Battlefield Bad Company 2 on this drive. Most of my other applications are on my on my raptor raid D drive array. I believe on Add/Remove programs I have a total of like 10 programs and it is basically Nvidia drivers, chrome, microsoft essentials, etc.
My 40gb SSD drive only has 5gb left.
I can purchase another Intel 40gb SSD drive for 89.99 with free shipping and run it up in a raid 0 array. I will lose trim but don't think it will be much of a loss with garbage collection. I am comfortable with raid 0 setup because these drives are not mechanical and are less prone to failure. Also I have other drive to back up stuff considering I want to keep just operating sysytem and a few games on this drive.
I am also maybe considering just pulling the trigger on an X-25-M 80gb at 179 with a rebate which would make it 149. I could also get a Intel X-25 M 120gb at 220.
What do you guys think would be best? Another 40gb in raid 0 or just get the 80gb?

Depends on what you want really.
Im still not sold on SSDs because im all about space over speed.
Once the price comes down on them ill consider.

I suggest to get at least a 80Gb SSD drive if you're using is as your main PC. That's what I have on mine (Intel X25-M 80GB) with a 2nd 160GB drive as well for storage. I don't care if space isn't that much since I have 2TB in my server.

Hindsight 20 20 is a bitch. Wish I started of with that when I did the build. Price has come down a bit since then.
It is my main pc and I also have 160gb storage drive and 73.4gb for programs off of C drive and storage of common used data.
My.raptors are 5 years old and still working without a hitch. I know they can go at any point but everything is backed up so not concerned about it.
These ssd drives are amazing with boot and access time. When the raptors go I will save up and just get a big ass mechanical drive for storage.
Well 80gb it is. I guess I will attempt to sell the 40gb ssd drive.

This is what i have just done a few days back....
For a few months i had been running one Kingston 64GB V+ SSD as a boot drive for W7 and a few other small programs so used Casper 6.0 (http://www.fssdev.com/products/casper/) to move the entire contents to a spare mechanical drive.
I then added another Kingston SSD and ran both in RAID 0 and used Casper again to move the contents back from the Raptor onto the RAID 0 drives.
I’ve been running them in RAID 0 now for a few days and honestly can’t see any difference what so ever for the type of stuff i do so for me its just a waste of an SSD and will be resorting back to a single SSD and large storage drive in a few days.

Granted ive never used an SSD or RAID on normal drive but I figure at a certain point, its just not going to get any faster.
I always saw RAID as a waste of space.

Definitely upgrade to a 60-120GB primary drive. I would skip the X25-V RAID array. The write performance on those 40GB Intel drives is just terrible.

Man just save you the mess from RAIDing crappy SSDs and go with an OCZ Revo Drive...maybe the X2 version. It'll fly like no other!!! :crack:

Never even considered OCZ. Their products. (Memory and PSU) seemed to go to shit and downhill over the years. I figured can't go wrong with Intel and will have to read up on OCZs drives.

V is for value. Now I can get an 80gb for $50 more than what I originally purchased that 40/b. Compared to the M series the write speed is dog shit.
Hell with raiding 2 shitty V series. Ill spend the extra 50 and attempt to sell my 40gb for $50.

I was thinking the same thing, everything OCZ ive got in the past few year has been junk.

While the Revo is an interesting addition to the world of SSDs, it’s unconvincing, over priced and ultimately disappointing; we won’t be ditching our SATA cables just yet.

I have one dead OCZ 256gb z-drive sitting here. 1300 buck paperweight. Friends don't let friends buy OCZ.

Here's a 60GB Agility 2 deal for ya: $99 after $20 MIR (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227542)
I've been running an OCZ Agility since march or so and it's been great. The Agility 2 uses the popular Sandforce SF-1200 controller that's great.

Can't say I completely share the same sentiments. OCZ is one of the top SSD makers for a reason. I'd stay the hell away from their PSU's though.
