View Full Version : My custom Rear Ascension Panel

Well, I couldn't figure out where to put this at first... but since it leads to a WC question I figure I'd post it here.
Had an idea for a custom panel for my Extended Ascension.... since I'm using the FUFUFUFUFUFUFUFU WC PSU, it needs to sit horizontal, and the PSU slots are both vertical on the Horizon back.
So this is what I came up with...
On either side of the PSU I'll be putting a PA120.2 but not sure what for yet.
In fact here what I'm doing so far.
Three PA120.3 in the front, the two PA120.2. I plan to WC the whole board and such.
Here's my "basic" idea so far...
120.3 for the CPU a QX9770
120.3 for the GPUs, two 4870X2
here where I start thinking, maybe I should dedicate one pa120.3 to each 48070X2, then use teh pa 120.2 for the PSU, and the other for the Mosfet and RAM.. I've been considering the OCZ Flex RAM, seem pretty cool stuff.
How much heat does the 120.2 dissipate? I think my PSU generates 200-300W
Let me know what you guys think... I'll be using up to 5 DDC pumps with either the XSPC top or the XSPC res top....

With that layout, having worked with my ascension, let me tell you that you better hope your PSU has some long LONG power cables, because I know for sure if thats where my PSU was, theres no way in hell the cables from my X3 would reach that far.

The FUFUFUFUFUFUFUFU PSU is very LONG... so, just eyeballing it, right now, it looks like they'll be long enough for the mobo.... But, I am a bit worried about any top mounted Drives....
But, I'll be changing the sleeving on my cables anywho, so I can make them a bit longer if necessary...
But, thanks for the heads up...

What about putting the power supply where the fan is right above it. That would shorten the wiring a little. You could make a small brace if you had to support the PS from the bottom. Just an idea.

I did consider this idea, :hmm: but I have absolutely "NO" talent for making things like this:confused:. It's also a really HEAVY psu, so I'd need a beefy bracket. I might be able to "fake" a bracket, but it wouldn't look very good.
I tested it yesterday, the 24 pin main fits fine, the 8 pin aux, might be too short by a cunt hair.... I've got two extra PSUs I can steal wires from if I need to.
I don't mind lengthening wires if I have too. I need to resleeve all of them anyway.... the PSU comes with the "fishnet" sleeving....
As for the one or TWO rd30s, I'll pass. A. I don't want to add the meanwell. and from what I've read I would need to mod my res...... B. I have an interesting idea regarding the DDC pumps, and I don't think I'll use all 5, most likely 3 or 4. It's how I'm going to mount them that will be fun...

How do you plan on mounting the pumps?
Also if you need help with the brace I can help you.

The back panel will hold the weight of the PSU, only problem is it will sag. A simple ALU bracket bent like a C will hold it just fine.
Measure how long it needs to be (case to bottom of PSU holding PSU up so there is no sag) Add 2 inches to the measurement. Now cut you a 1" x X piece of ALU and bend it to the correct size.
I use a couple of 1x2 boards as my bending brace (or brake if you want to be technical)

I plan to mount the pumps on the vertical portion of the horizontal mobo brackets... Using, your bracket (I think) I think I can mount two pumps per side. I'm not completely sure of this, as I haven't completely tried to lay things out yet....

Man.... I wished I'd discussed this with you guys BEFORE Ben brought it production.... The was a few days ago, so I'm assuming it's already been cut.
Maybe I'll see if this works out, and if everything is all screwed up, I'll just order a new panel. I'll keep this in mind if I need to do this in the future.
@dave, thanks for the offer, I'll keep it in mind if I need anything in the future.
I knew I should have checked with this forum first. Unlike a certain other forum, this one I think will be much more helpful!

What about the power supply in the top slot to help you keep your cables shorter?
If you need one made I could do it for you. It's your call but if it's in the top slot then all your cabling will be easier.
Good to hear your using my brackets (I think)
They really do work well (in my opinion) in the MM cases.

It is your mount... just looked at your avatar, and see the UN logo.... They fit perfect mounting to the side of the mobo brace.
I may not be able to use the XSPC tops though, which is no biggy. May have one pump facing front to the 120.3, and one pointing back to the 120.2 rad.
Gotta run, kids going nuts at the moment...

Wow.... Thanks RRR and Dave!
It's been posted, so I'll cross my fingers and hope it hasn't been "laser'd" yet... hehe
I guess it would be much easier than adding to all the cables....
thanks

No worries mate! All is good here.
When and if you get the panel cut correctly all you have to do is give me a couple of measurements and will take care of you.
That's how we roll at the (UN)!
We take care of our people, even the Texans!! :fight12:
