Hi all. With the HWBOT competition running right now I thought it would be beneficail if we all pooled our tweaks into a single thread. The more you have to offer the more likely the RRR team will find it's way into the top 10 on both the phase 1 and phase 2 portions of the competition.
So post your tweaks if you got 'em!

The obvious first tweak is to use a fresh OS, right? I think the consensus is that SuperPi performs better on XP than Vista or Win7. The top scores on HWBOT are all XP which would support this. Along with the OS installation comes the disabling of unnecessary processes and such.
Number two on the list is that SuperPi performs better after being run a few times. Not sure why this is, but I can reproduce this on my current system consistently.
The rest is all third party knowledge for me. I have heard that using a ramdisk will improve times. I have also read that using something like XPlite could help trim your system and provide better scores.
The gray area is registry tweaks. I haven't ever used these tweaks but I have read that others have and gained a few seconds from their use. As for whether or not these registry tweaks are authorized or not is beyond me. If anyone knows how to find out difinitively that they are or aren't allowed please let me know.
Here are the registry tweaks that I know about:
DisablePagingExecutive=1
LargeSystemCache=1

So what does this app do for you?
It does the whole copy wazza for you. So you do not need to sit and do it.
Open your Super PI 32mil the press run on the application. Wait while it does its stuff and then when don press enter and wait 9 minutes for the 32 Mil run to end.
That's about it.

So LSC with XP levels the playing field with 2K3, nice...

Anyone know if there is any difference between OSes in respect to architecture, i.e. 32-bit vs 64-bit? I did a quick search but couldn't find any.
I wonder how fair it would be to say that XP pro is the platform of choice not because it's the best, but because it's the cheapest/mainstream/etc..
I'd like to run a test on my system with the various operating systems available to me. But I don't want to waste time installing OS after OS after OS only to realize that one that I blew away is superior.
Is there a software (preferably free) I could use to image my hard drive after I install and tweak an OS? If I could get my hands on something like that I could do my own testing to see the differences between OSes.

make sure you set the cpu afinity to one specific core I find my nubers shave a few seconds this way especially with the high core count cpu's

How do you do that?

one of the programs 1Day linked does it is i think but CTRL+ALT+DLT-process (find supi) right click set afinity, also while your there set priority to realtime
OS selection - is very dependant on what benchmark is being run and more specifically with Super Pi which test. People have selected or come to think that a particular OS is best not because it is the most accessible but because they have tested all of them. Over and over again. OS preferences change with hardware, and hardware combinations. Benching is not just the best hardware, there is huge amounts of testing or research that goes into it. When I was benching hard two years ago for example, 18 hours of testing would go into one hour of actual benching.
How to set affinity - open your task manager. CAD as OC101 said. Open your SUPER Pi application. You will see it in the task manaager list. Open the processes tab. Highlight the SUPER Pi process. Right click and select affinity. Again it involves testing to see which of your cores is quicker.
Got my boards today so benching will happen soon.

Saw this it just cracks me up. We have grey squirrels in the woods behind our house and the little buggers keep eating our strawberries. An idea is forming. :D

well i should have a new board here hopefully saturday if not then it will be here monday and i will be able to bench some more, the board is a great bord but with this cpu especially it seems somtimes it overclocks amazing then ten minutes later it refuses to oc at all, so i grabbed a super cheap asus P7P55D deluxe and am gonna bench the piss out of it. I almost grabbed that mini itx board but decided last minute on the asus

wow some massive differences between OSes, I never would have expected such huge differences.
I assume superpi 1m results in the review can be applied to 32m, right? If this is the case then I am just going to install xp-64 bit and be done with it.
No there is a difference between 1mil OS and 32mil OS. I use the same OS to be honest but their are others who disagree. Like all things it comes down to what works best for you.
Test test and then test again.

Ok, I got XP 64-bit installed and patched with sp2. Only when I go into diagnostic mode, like I did with the 32-bit version, I am now unable to see the taskbar or use copy and paste! WTF?
Anyone know what services govern these two things so I can do the copywazza thing with minimal services running?

not sure... anyways
here's one more tool you'll like

Ok, so is there anything special to using this new tool? A correct way perhaps? With my previous runs I did the manua copywazza method. Tedious though managable. Just wondering what this tool brings to the plate besides the copywazza capability?

what cpu are you running man?? i5-6XX?? i3?? i5-7xx?? if its the clarkdales make sure the qpi multi matches the core multi and the incore is as high as possible also maybe up the imc voltage and tighten the shit out of the ram timings.

I am running a lynnfield i7 875K with two cores disabled. I have the QPI set to x32 everything else on auto.
I have tried tweaking the timings on the RAM without success. It would seem my 6-9-6-24 stock timings are as good as it gets. I'll be honest though I am not much of a tweaker when it comes to RAM timings. Any advice on ways to streamline the process rather than randomly lowering numbers?
I'll try pushing the uncore higher this evening and share the results.
To push your ram timings you will need to push the voltage of your Ram a lot and you will need to cool your ram a lot. Like Dry Ice or LN2 at the voltages needed. But you will only be able to really work with the sub-timings. So work on the other stuff.

cpu tweaker its fucking amazing! it anables you to tweak almost all the timings from within the o/s

Ok, so my board doesn't allow for modification of the uncore multiplier for whatever reason.
Any other ideas? I changed the QPI setting to x36. That's all I got!

Uncore is locked on p55 if I'm not mistaken.
Have a read here guys explains a bit more about the relationship between the uncore and BLK.
