So Im planning out my next build since Im sitting on my hands for one last thing to finish off this current build, and Im having this crazy notion to follow a certain someone's path and build a 16-core 4-processor system, and put 64gb of ram in it (thats right 64gb of ram! HA!).... yah anyways, since Im insane, I was thinking doing this:

CPU1: EK Res > MCP355 > CPU > Thermochill 120.3 > Res
CPU2: EK Res > MCP355 > CPU > Thermochill 120.3 > Res
CPU3: EK Res > MCP355 > CPU > Thermochill 120.3 > Res
CPU4: EK Res > MCP355 > CPU > Thermochill 120.3 > Res
GPU: EK Res > MCP355 > 4870x2 > Thermocholl 120.3 > Res

The rads/pumps for the four CPU loops would be put in a pedestal24, and the rest would be housed in an extended U2-UFO o.o

D:

Crazy? Not worth it? Pure insanity? AMD sucks and it takes four of them to do the job of 2 intel 771's? D:

comments?

16 cores with 64gb of ram holy crap D:

folding ...........

you could do that with 2 Iwaki's

dbb up the cpu's on the 2 loops & run both feeds into yer vid card It would look uber cool ..

run the Rad's in serial ... 2 on each loop

and fit everything inside a big case and lug it to some pdxlan event...

QuakeCON 2009 ........ FTW

Umm, it doesn't take 4 AMDs to equal 2 771s. Processor for processor Shanghai is MUCH better for some loads than any (and I do mean any) Intel.

It depends on your game. HPC apps benefit from the Amd architecture.

only point i am seeing with these kinds of build is major folding & crunching, then major cpu intensive graphics designing... not to mention some bragging rights in the wings...

do current games ever take up more than 2 or 4 cores yet?

As far as I know.... a couple games do. COD4 being one, but I'm not much of a gamer so I don't know the others. xD :D

Sounds like a an awesome build!

Hmm this should be pretty intresting to watch!

Damn....Would like to see the build progress on that one.

As would I, I've done SMP before. However, I hope he has looked at component cost, and just how much would have to be custom made...

That sounds interesting, why not watercool everything else to go ultimate ??!! Motherboard, hard drives, ram, PSU ???!!! It would look and perform insane :) And you could use different colours of coolant with some kind of colour scheme OOh the possibilities :)

5 Loops is Extreme.....

Intel's 16 core Caneland and 32 core Tigerton systems based on Core i7 technology are around the corner. It'll make mince meat of anything Shanghai... at a price.

I would prefer a Tyan Typhoon platform.

5 loops is extreme, yes. 8 loops would be more extreme, and 10 loops would re-define extreme

cpu + 3 gpu + nb + sb + mosfets + memory + HDD = 9 loops, or 10 loops for skulltrail

Someone has to beat my 4.

Yes, Ricey, but right now AMD is on top. We'll see how that pans out, but I think you're right.

Um, yah, if theres a freakin Quad-Socket I7 motherboard, Im so building that instead....
