I installed my Hitachi 7k250 drive today and am unable to access it. I went into Computer Management, Storage, Disk Management and apparently the hard drive is in RAW format and has lost a partition. Windows 7 prompts me to format the disk and I hit cancel.

Has anyone used Pandora Recovery or Get Data Back?

Which data recovery program do you recommend to get whatever data I can?

Was this only used on a PC before or maybe MAC or Linux?

This hard drive was used on my last system. The operating system was Windows XP. I had the same raptors I am using now as raid 0 and this was my back up system. My current setup the OS is on my SSD and I have BF2C on it. All the other programs and data I put on my raid that I created with same raptor drives from old system. Eventually I will be upgrading my storage to all SSD when the cost comes down. Till then I will run these sata drives till they no longer work.

data recovery, ive tried playing with linux base "knoppix" cd or dvd... download both, try both... its gui base, so no "command code typing" except for the bootup.

i was successful in recovering some files and transfering them to another harddisk...
sometime the failing harddrive needed some knuckling for it to bboot too...

Wait... so is this just a backup drive that you need to access to regain files? Or is this a boot drive that want to be able to boot from?

If it's just a backup drive and it has files that you need to access, do what Septim said. Download Knoppix, burn it to a disk, boot your computer from the CD. Once Knoppix as loaded, browse to your backup disk and transfer all the files you need to a different disk.
