View Full Version : FYI - Bitspower Fittings Versus Other Company Barbs

I recently ordered and received for the first time some of the awesome new BP rotary connectors and other BP fittings.
I already have tons of different barbs around here, no need to order any more....WRONG. The female thread depth is much shallower than other fittings.
See first picture for comparison. From left to right: Dtek, EK, DD, BP Rotary45
http://www.realredraider.com/vbulletin/attachment.php?attachmentid=42&stc=1&d=1229130326
Second and third picture show that the other barbs "bottom" out before being even close to sealing.

http://www.realredraider.com/vbulletin/attachment.php?attachmentid=44&stc=1&d=1229130417
Fourth and fifth picture shows that I could use an old EK spacer to make it work.

This may be old news to y'all, but I was a little shocked at this. I like the BP stuff so much, I am going to simply replace all my barbs with those from BP to avoid having to use the spacer.

Nice pics. The only BP fittings I've had the chance to use so far are the Crystal 90's and the male to male adapters. I tryed using the male to male adapters on a few EK blocks a while back and they leaked like a mofo. The EK threading was to large for the male to male adapters, and the threading was so short on the BP fittings I couldn't use plumbers tape to widen it out. Anyone else experience anything like this?
But yeah, BP fittings, just from the few I've had the pleasure of working with, are extremely nice. I too would like to swap out all my barbs for compression barbs, but without propper funding i'm stuck my EK/Swiftech/DD/Dtek mix lol.

If you like barbs, then might I suggest BitsPower "FatBoy" barbs...:igotit:
BitsPower 1/2" FatBoys (http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/big1sishfifo.html)
BitsPower 3/8" FatBoys (http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/big1sishfifo1.html)

Yeah RR I like those as well. After taking a quick look at my loops, compression barbs wouldn't work for me at all. Most of my barbs are really close together (Dtek V1, MCW-60's) so there's no room for compression barbs. Those Fatboys would definately work though.

Yep, those are ones I need to get.
Sorry, but I tried the BP compression fittings already and they were not my thing. I found the nut really hard to push up the hose or back down to screw tight.

Say wut  I find mine extremely easy to work with... and since the actual plug doesnt have barbs on it, its much easier to remove a compression fitting than a barb from hose. I've actually had to cut tubing from barbs before, no such worried with compressions. Hell Hank has the shining silver 1/2ID 3/4OD tygon BP Compressions for 6.99/per right now.

The standard bitspower barbs are not compatible with mips blocks; with or without the spacer.

Mips Computer - from Germany - makes some beautiful nickel spacers, and they ship a pair of them with every block.
I like the bitspower high-flow dark nickel barbs... however I have a few T's and Q's... but they seem really chinsy. I prefer the AquaComputer variety of 90's and T's and such.
As for PPCs, HANK has been GREAT, and has helped my in numerous ways from adding products to large orders, to shipping before cleared payments so I could stay in deadline, and declaring parcel value to be super low so I can save on duties... I think PPCs is a fantastic store with great service.
@Kayin - Hey mate... so this is where you've been hiding?

Wait... What? Ive done over $4,000 business with Hank without a hiccup, even met him a couple of times, I'm like an hours drive away so I just drive there to pick up most of my orders..... What do you know that I dont? Because everytime Ive been there theyve been very nice down to earth people to me  Id rather do business with Sidewinder or somebody else if they are gonna screw me but nobody else has most of the stuff I need and I hate ordering from 6,000 different stores.

Yeah, the problem is with or without the spacer they don't work unfortunately.
I'm using a mips 780i sb and it's gorgeous.. fits very nicely with ek barbs and spacers.

pick up and checking piece by piece is good, i don't see a problem here.
on deliveries is where the problem lays, and sometimes continue selling factory recalled stuffs...

There are threads on XS with unhappy people who got the wrong items (like tubing of the wrong color or missing small part). Hank or someone else in the staff often had a condescending attitude and said it's a error from the buyer, not the store and this is why some hate them. I think it might have to do with the tone buyers is requesting to fix it and a sane guy would not like it when they bitch, threatening them of being idiots (this is often the part we never see when someone post a thread complainign).
Personnally, I don't have a problem with them as well, always prepared my orders perfectly (they even send me a email when the black mesh grill I wanted is out of stock and ask if I don't mind silver while most stores would just sit until they receive the right part, causing delays). One time, a order of tubing and radgrill got to my house in Canada in just 2 days all the way from Florida !

I am so happy that you've received nothing but great service from HANK. It's probably due to the fact that you are physically going to his location and picking up your orders. Therefore HANK is smart enough to realize you just might check the order in his presence, so he doesn't risk fucking with you.
I still stand by my earlier comment, because I can. HANK is 100% pure GARBAGE.
I have had (2) good experiences out of (5), that equates to a failure.
If he would have screwed me on a "big ticket item" I might feel a little better, but no he screwed me on little things and then basically called me a liar.
1) $392.35 - left out (2) USB/KK Header Connector 1 X 1
Didn't even bother discussing this one with him, as I've learned it's pointless.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3198/3104957388_2c03683171_o.jpg
2) $162.65 - left out (5) o-rings for BitsPower Spacer Rings
(Replacements shipped to me by Vincent from Taiwan.)
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3007/3104125981_5192a2e466_o.jpg
3) $58.70 - D-Tek Waterblock Mounting Hardware, shipped with a bent bolt.
Claimed they were damaged in transit, told to file a claim with USPS. They were shipped inside a 12" x 6" x 3" box
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3214/3104126005_0d98afd309_o.jpg
I complained about him in my buildlog on XS, then I believe an ADMIN gave him my name. HANK then screwed me on my next (2) orders. I ordered again, using a surrogate buyer (my secretary), magically I got my entire order. Go figure???
BTW, I don't truly believe you'll be buying from 6,000 different stores in your lifetime...:fact:

That's a bummer mate.
They left out 10female fan molex plugs in my last order... which bugged me... but I had 2 outstanding orders that were waiting for payments to clear so...
I asked him to send me the pins out with my other two orders ASAP (before the payments had cleared)...
He responded with:
We'll add it to your order today. Happy Holidays!
So I can totally understand where you're coming from with the undelivered items (mind you the order I made had something like 281 items... so didn't bat an eye at a bag of missing plugs), but he responded quickly to my dilemma and did his best to solve the problem.
Eddie3dfx

I tell ya, IMO he does it on purpose. Think of how much he makes in the long run charging for parts he doesn't ship?
He also probably has dope head teenagers in his warehouse. Cutless, how many employees does he have?
Cutless009
12-13-2008, 08:13 PM
No dope head employees, theres hank, then another young man whos about my age (~25ish), then an older woman, and a middle aged woman, and another middle aged man, thats it.

Maybe the crook notion is more fitting.
Cutless009
12-13-2008, 08:33 PM
Honestly I think it breaks down like this.
1. There's not many employees, and ALL the work of running that business falls on the shoulders of five, MAYBE six people. That means modifying parts, pulling orders, building computers, painting cases and parts, modding cases, taking care of payroll, calculating taxes, taking orders, sending verification emails, all of that, is only split between six people.
2. Even with that few number of people and the number of mistakes they are bound to make, hank is a very um... stingy... business man. Good guy, bad at business, or for business, I'm not sure which, so when when of his few employees makes a mistake, he is quick to defend his little family, and this comes across completely wrong to the customer.
3. Hank knows nothing about good business practice, and neither does any of the rest of them, its just a bunch of down to earth normal people trying to run a business. Hell the person who does the sleeving is like a 65 year old woman.
RedRaider
12-13-2008, 08:41 PM
So in lamens terms, he's a down to earth crook. Who relies on ignorance to cover his thievery. He is also a person who exploits the elderly. I'm glad I never considered having his mom/grandmother do any fucking sleeving for me.
My stance on HANK still stands. The customer comes first, period. Lest you forget, I am the lead salesman for the largest hot mix asphalt producer in South East Texas. I have to kiss ass and cover ass's all day, every day. I have no sympathy for the shady character named HANK.
Cutless, always remember, ignorance is not an excuse.:fact:

No its not, it never is, I've only ever gone on my own experiences with him. I'd be happy to give my business to somebody else who's more know and reputable like Sidewinder, but they dont have they stuff I need. If they could get it I'd just put together an order and submit it.

However, it still could be grumpy old stoners. :D
I have never had one issue with PPCs and I get quite a bit of stuff.
I agree that if Sidewinder had the inventory of PPCs, I'd be there in NY minute.
Simple fact is PPCs had something I needed and Sidewinder did not. Look at Petra's, everything I ever look at is out of stock. I would love to support Quoc, bet no inventory.
