Here's my issue, I get hard locks whenever I'm playing an online game. It usually take a while before it happens. Sometimes I can play for hours before it happens and other times just a couple minutes. I've got all chipset and network drivers current. I've tried eliminating my wireless router and go straight from my cable modem, same thing. Being that it hard locks I'm thinking it's probably something to do with the ethernet port on the mobo. This happens whether I'm oc'd or at stock speeds. If I'm just surfing then everything is fine, no disconnects and never have any issues except for when I'm playing online games.
I've been pulling my hair out trying to figure this out and think I've finally narrowed it down to some type of hardware issue. Anything you guys can think of that I should be checking? Any way to test and narrow the problem down further before I RMA this board?

hard locks are usually ram related
qpi/vtt voltage is your first stop bump it a few volts and see if it settles down, after that test ram 1 stick at a time with memtest.

I assume this is the hardware in your signature.
I am old school, but would do these basic tests.
Revert back to stock settings.
First - memtest86 (bootable from cd-rom version) for memory. 3 passes minimum.
Second - Prime 95 blend test for 24 hours.
Third - Furmark or some other GPU stress test.
I would download latest Everest Ultimate (trial version if you do not already own it) to monitor all the temperatures for above tests.

Thanks for the replies guys.
I've run memtest overnight and it found no problems. It runs LinX and Furmark stable for hours. This rig seems rock solid except when playing online games. And, like I said, this happens whether I'm oc'd or not. My temps are fine. CPU tops out at about 68c and GPU never goes above 50c.
This problem just started a couple weeks ago and it's so random that I've really had a hard time tracking it down. I'm really thinking it's a mobo ethernet port issue but I dunno.

I have this same problem on my buddies rig, he wants me to fix it, and it has been nothing but a pain in my fucking ass

A bit more info.
Before I was actually wired to my wireless router. Wireless is used for the other comps in the house. So I grabbed one of the wireless adapters and installed it and tested it and the comp eventually froze up with it too. So, it looks like it doesn't have anything to do with my ethernet port on the mobo.
FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKK KKKKKKKK!!!!
This is driving me nuts. I'm at a fuckin loss where to go from here.

the problem started a few weeks ago..so try and load a restore profile prior to the date it started.
you could also check your HDD's and make sure there 100% and as a last resort a clean OS install.

im re installing the o/s on my buddies computer. I think its a windows corruption issue.

/sigh...I just reinstalled Win 7 this last weekend hoping that would fix it.

What about the motherboard chip temperature? You say the CPU and GPU are fine. Maybe chipset overheating?

well I have narrowed it down to one thing. in my case the motherboard must be shit either that or the velociraptor is shit. but idt the hdd shitting would cause the whole pc to just shit the bed upon cpu load. its all good until the cpu gets loaded. I put the cpu in my rig and its going just fine, I put the psu in mine, fine, the memory, fine, the gpu, fine. Hell i even used the stock cooling thinking maybe the cooler was warping the board, nope. its this shit ass asus motherboard. have you tried your parts in another board???

The X58 LE mobo does have just passive cooling for the chipsets but I have a fan blowing on the NB and I've checked both right after it hard locks and they're not very hot at all.

I'm starting to think it's my mobo too. Just wish I had a good way to narrow it down before I go through the trouble of RMA'ing it. And I have no other X58 boards laying around to check everything with.

you can have it set up so they send you a new board first they just need a CC #. maybe one of the other members lives near by and can help you out. se my buddies pc that im fixing is 1156 and its an asus board, I tried to talk him into getting the EVGA P55 FTW 200 but he just wouldnt he insisted on asus, but now it just shuts down as soon as the cpu gets any type of "out of the norm" load. by "out of the norm" I mean games, WCG, benches etc. I isolated the problem by changing everything out to my pc the only thing left was his motherboard. for a while I thought it was windows corrution of hdd problems but my board runs fine with his hdd, but the parts shut down with his board. im thinking his power phaes have shit out.

Have you tried YOUR hardware on HIS board yet?
It's *possible* that his board is being picky about some piece of hardware or other.
