Seriously nice new PSU from Corsair.

Doubt most of you can read this, but the graphs and pictures speak for themselves:
http://www.hardware.no/artikler/corsair_ax_1200/76536/1

I think I'm in love. 1200w, 80+ Gold, fully modular, great sleeving over all black wiring, flat cables in black wiring. And that fan is easily changed out for something quieter.

(MSRP of around $385, but that's Norway's price, not US, which will be considerably lower.)

Looks like they have an AX750 and AX850 as well. Wonder who the ODM is...

Morae

The 750 and 850 are Seasonic based. They're keeping the OEM of the 1200 mum for the moment.

The seem to have a new case on the way too, the 600T.

Yeah the AX750 and 850 look just like my Seasonic X650... Can't wait til Seasonic debuts their new line of PSUs (supposed to release more powerful ones)... Best OEM evar. :D

According to Redbeard, the Corsair rep over on JG forums, the AX1200 OEM is neither CWT nor Seasonic. I can't wait to see JG's review of this unit.

Almost every case these days is steel and plastic, it sucks, they're going back to the 90s except they're using black instead of beige.

Doesnt look bad but I kinda liked the old sticker style better. Not that it matters much, I removed mine lol.

So this is what Redbeard was hiding with his "wait and see"
I'm in love in the new PSUs lately from Corsair....these are just fucking awesome

Y do i want to take a random guess as it being Enhance maybe?? I don't think CWT can handle that.

On the other hand, Seasonic is releasing a new X line ranging from 400W fanless designs all the way to 1000 and 1200W versions so it could be that as well and they're just hiding it!

Redbeard also stated these price points are HIGH!
$170-$180 for the AX750
$220-$250 for the AX850
$300-$330 for the AX1200

Looks like the same thing that Crucial added to their Tracer ram when it first came out. Cool if u want something like that, but i prefer less bling personally

Edit: Also, i took a look at the connectors. Looks like the AX's have 2 EPS 8 pins now, but i was surprised to see that the AX850 has only 4 PCIe versus 6 on the HX

Wow..if I read correctly, it's a single rail PSU which makes it even more attractive. However, it's been my experience that high wattage single rail PSU's tend to run a little warm and need a little more airflow. But we'll see because I'll snap one up in a heartbeat:D

Anyone seen a spec yet on the length of the housing? From the pictures I'm guessing 200mm+

I can only imagine how easy it would be to mod that PSU now that its fully modular. Sucks that there are not many smaller wattage PSUs that are fully modular.

Ketzer7
06-01-2010, 12:52 PM
Yeah, would be nice if there was a new X1000 that retained the same dimensions of the current X-series PSU, i.e. ~160mm, and had all the same features. Seen anything concrete on when that might drop? Computex is upon us...

Silverion77

Supposedly its gonna be a whole new line starting with fanless 400w models to 760, 850 and even 1000 and 1200w, but nothing is solid.

Edit: There also appear to be rumors on a new extension for Antec....seems to be 80Plus Gold as well and a possible model in the 1200W range.

Man, I can't wait for these new PSU's; This REALLY solves my dilemma of how to handle doing a PSU for this rig; I want this rig to be absolutely spotless (or at least as close as I can manage), just so that I can have had at least ONE show-quality rig....

Yup, I'll be getting one too, although probably the AX750 or 850. Probably the 850. I figure I'll put that in this machine to replace the HX1000 (which is massive overkill), and move the HX1000 to my other rig with my Antec TPQ 850, and then sell the Antec.....

If a PSU will fit in your space, then I would always get the biggest wattage possible. Not because it is overkill, but for silence.

Most fans on PSUs start to spin-up around 50% load and get worse from there. I always want my true power consumption to be on the low end of the fan curve.

Understandable, but it's a case where I don't need more power than that, and that I don't want to spend that much money (given how expensive the AX1200 is likely to be) on a PSU given the way my finances are at the moment, and other things I need to spend money on (like a car, school, a laptop to use for school and work, etc.)....

Also, I was using an 850 watt PSU in this rig before (Antec TPQ) and noise was never an issue....

So effectively, while I'd like to go for *massive* overkill, the fact remains that I could get away with a 550 watt PSU for this rig (at least for a little while ;)), and that 850 watts will be plenty until I have the money to do a major upgrade again, at which time I can pass the AX850 off to a lesser machine....

Those look nothing like the Revo...its Flextronics. Server PSU manufacturer...its gonna be hard for people to compete with it. The Seasonic 1000/1200 could get close, but i think the other to watch is the Delta based Antec "High Current" ones that were shown. Basically they're fancier Signatures which were beasts when they came out.

And why would the AX replace the TX series? They're on totally different standards. From best to worse (series type) its:
AX-fully modular, gold, 7yr warranty
HX-partial modular, silver (new ones), 7yr warranty
TX-no modular, bronze rating typical, 5yr

and then the others are the GS, CX, VX (mistake...shouldve been TX), etc.

Of all things the AX would replace the HX series but i believe Corsair has full intention to leave the HX line as a cheaper alternative to going full out with the AX series.

Yep..it's a lock for this unit as far as I'm concerned. As long as there isn't any manufacturing QC problems, which I doubt there will be, this one will become the defacto high end standard in my book. And the single 100 amp rail is icing on the cake as far as I'm concerned:D

I'll be getting one as soon as they become available

Well, given it's proven Gold efficiency, even if you don't need all 1200W of what it's capable of, you could still get it for the extra buffer room it allows you and not worry about it needlessly sucking up juice from the wall that's not doing anything and just being wasted.

Yeah, its right on the box, on the fan noise graph. I pluged mine into the tester, and the fan only kicked on a lil and shut off again, so it should move a lil wiggle when he first powers it on.
