Hello one and all... I see my reputation proceeds me. Ashamed

I've been talking a lot with Rico from Watercool the past few months.

He has actually kindly shipped me a special Heatkiller v3.0 PromtheusCU edition just yesterday - I haven't yet received it.

I asked him to send me some pictures of his shop and the manufacturing process - he's going to email those to me in the next couple days.

From what Rico tells me - the Heatkiller v3.0 is going to be a serious contender - there have been a number of improvements with this new series - and he says it's quite a lot larger and about %25 heavier.

I'll ask Rico to write me some detailed specifics on his design. And I'll offer my own opinion as soon as the block arrives in the mail (shouldn't be more than a week).

Thanks for the kind words folks, and I'm happy to have turned some of you towards Watercool products. Their gear is up and above top notch!

Here's a translated version of the Heatkiller 3.0 writeup:

The HEATKILLER ® Rev3.0 CPU sets new standards in performance, quality and ease of assembly. The development of new high-end processor cooler has been consistently on the current CPU generations.
A central Anströmung, coupled with a nozzle plate, and a very fine Kühlgeometrie, give the cooler an excellent cooling performance. The baseplate is geometrically Heatspreader to adjust and provides thus, for optimum contact with the CPU.Trotz very expensive Kühlgeometrie the flow resistance is extremely low. For the use of quad-processors, has a plug-in cooler distributor plate, the individual CPU cores will be parallel angeströmt.
A modular structure allows easy HEATKILLER Open ®, a change to a different bracket system is possible at any time and with few handles done. Holders sold separately and spare parts guarantee, even after several years, a smooth operation.
The Kühlgeometrie, and the uppers are made of high copper, the holder and applications from milled stainless steel. To launch the copper to prevent the uppers with a special clearcoat sealed.

The GTX 280 block is particularly pimp in my opinion. MSI uses a Watercool block on it's 280 HydroGen. here (http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2008/11/25/watercooled-geforce-gtx-280-shootout/1) is a review on that card/block.

A while ago, German manufacturer Watercool announced their new CPU block, the Heatkiller 3.0.

It is available in three different versions:

HK 3.0 CU
http://www.abload.de/img/hk30_cu_775_1jqtv.jpg

HK 3.0 LT
http://www.abload.de/img/hk30_lt_775_12pkm.jpg

HK 3.0 LC
http://www.abload.de/img/hk30_lt_1366_1kn7k.jpg

Here are the characteristics of the different versions:

HK 3.0 CU
Basically the standard version and direct successor of the Heatkiller 2.5. It has a copper top and stainless steel top-plate (decorative purpouse only).

HK 3.0 LT
It is built identically to the CU version but uses POM for the top. It's slightly cheaper than the CU due to the POM.

HK 3.0 LC
LC probably stands for "Low Cost". The LC is the version with the lowest price. It does not feature the stainless steel top plate, has slightly fewer channels in the base and no midplate.

There are three mounting plates for the HK heatsinks. The mounting plates can be applied to each of the versions.

775
http://www.abload.de/img/hk30_cu_775_1jqtv.jpg

1366
http://www.abload.de/img/hk30_cu_1366_2vq6h.jpg

AMD

Here's a pic of the heatsinks base:

I'll post internals as soon as I get permission from the people who made the pictures.

If you guys decide to group buy, it probably won't end up costing much more than those prices plus shipping. Whats the VAT in the US?
It's ridiculously high in Germany (almost 20%) and since you can buy VAT-free outside of Germany and then pay local VAT instead, you could end up paying less for the blocks than us. :)

I keep think about doing it, just because I can, but want something good, I think I've only found a version by FUFUFUFUFUFUFUFU and the OCZ flex memory (which wouldn't work well with an I7 X58 board with tri channel memory)....

Just wondering what you're using....

I'm using a Mips Computer waterblock on the ram. This too is a custom job - the cooler is called the RAM FREEZER 4 and initially I didn't have enough length to cool my Dominator ram (because the naked Dominator has added PCB height for cooling). After negotiating a sponsorship, I asked them if they could redesign the block for Dominator support - they obliged and now offer this design in their store.

There is a link to mips in my sig.

Here's the ram courtesy of Corsair - note the extra bit at the top:

What are these tests based on? Who did them? What are the specifics? What cpu? What pump? What photoshop? What fans?

All good anyone can chuck up a graph & say hey our block is the best but not necessarily for all circumstances right.

I could have called those results... come to think of it, I did.

The EK and the HK3 are very similar in design; the HK3, however, just has 'more' of everything (grooves, flow, weight, etc). It makes sense that it should be the victor!

Bravo to the Victor then I guess eh haha.

Does the block come with the 1366 backplate or it's a separate order?

I found a place in Toronto that does nickel-plating. I might end up doing that, plus my RAM Freezer (all nickel instead of nickel/copper)

Everyone will be getting PM's when the parts arrive...

Where did this aquatuning.de shit come from ??

I ordered for all the people who said they wanted one. If anyone backs out, they will not be allowed in any future RedRaider Technology Store Purchases...:fact:

This is a little more involved than some here believe. It takes time and coordination, not to mention the language barrier...:shake: I am obtaining them directly from HeatKiller...

THIS THREAD IS NOT THE ORDER THREAD......

My experiences with Watercool haven't been the most expedited either Red, but they are a meticulous company who will ensure the best results and satisfaction for us all.

And no-one at Watercool speaks fluent English - which tends to complicate phone-calls as my German is heavily-broken at best.

Next we'll have RED speak in German for all of us...

i believe its time for all of us who ordered to stash away some money or break that Piggy bank when the time comes to pay up for this nice cpu block...

They're great guys though for sure. They're pretty much in touch with the community, so much that they're asking for the communities wishes before designing a product (was the case with the HK 3.0 and is the case for the next revision of their 9x120mm/9x140mm (!) radiator).

The fact they can't speak English (you know that better than me probably, I tend to talk to them in German ;)) all that well is probably what has kept them from having a US distributor.

And aquatuning.de is the largest German (European?) watercooling mailorder. I'm getting a HK 3.0 as well as soon as their 12% discount on everything special kicks in on 22nd February :)

This is their current 9x120mm radiator btw (Mo-Ra = Monster Radiator :D):
http://www.aquatuning.de/product_info.php/info/p1145_Watercool-MO-RA-2-Pro.html?refID=geizhals
And you need this to mount the fans:
http://www.aquatuning.de/product_info.php/info/p1143_Watercool-L-fterblende-f-r-Mora-2-Pro.html
With that thing and 9 fans at 120mm you get temp delta air-water of less than 2C ona CPU only loop :D I'm only using it with 5 fans though.

I always wondered why Watercool has no US distributor, the Mo-Ra seems perfect for you guys in the US where people put 2 Thermochills in one case ;)

No problem :)

The shop is OK. I had some issues RMAing my XSPC Laing top (was one with the crooked threads) a while back (I made a 300$ order) which pissed me off. It took quite a few emails with them telling me there's no cause for RMA but they eventually agreed to exchange it for a Watercool top and I'm ordering from them again. Many people are reporting good RMA service otherwise, maybe my guy just had a bad day and didn't want to back off from his original statement or something.

PS: Tell them about the 12% discount starting on the 22nd February. A promotion code will be shown here (http://www.forumdeluxx.de/forum/showthread.php?t=580593) (German) starting on the 22nd and you need to register at forumdeluxx and enter your username in the comments box.
