Anyone know anything about this PSU?

http://thermaltakeusa.com/Product.aspx?S=1172&ID=1910

Yeah I know it is a Thermaltake (= mostly junk), but if the OEM of the PSU is decent then it might be Ok. I haven't seen a review of it anywhere.

I don't recognize the design by looking at the pics of the internals on their site, so not sure which company it is actually made by. It looks kinda like a CWT design, but I can't match it up to any of the unit's on CWT's website.

Dunno, specs look decent and it does have a 5 year warranty, and the price isn't bad either.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Skip it...i haven't seen the 1200 but the lower end ones are shit

I don't kno the exact OEM, but they use cheap parts (cap is Su’scon which is lousy compared to Nippon, Rubycon etc.) and even the 750w couldnt even give its rated wattage. It was also showing 150mv of ripple
I mean, its not any higher end OEM. It doesn't look like any Andyson, Enhance, Seasonic (well duh cause its 1200) or a CWT....the 80plus only gives it away to me.

I generally dont touch Thermaltake PSUs in general cause they skimp so i would shun any "low end" TT

Yeah, that's what I am afraid of, but they do seem to tout the fact that it uses 105C Japanese primary caps, and it does have a bunch of solid caps on the secondary side. That much was obvious from the internal pics anyways.

I had a TT Toughpower 1200W in the past, = a CWT PUC, that was decent and never really gave me any problems, but I don't know anything about this TR2 one. I couldn't even find anything that would tell you what the rail distribution is for the connectors.

edit: it's weird because I only see one primary cap that looks like a Nichicon, but it has two rectifiers in the middle there. It almost kinda looks like an Enermax on the inside, but still different. Almost like a mix between a CWT DSG and an Enermax kinda

Got it!!!

It's HEC which just says to me, STAY THE FUCK AWAY
http://www.hec-group.com.tw/power_supply/#tblx

From the looks of it, they made it 2 rails and increased the 12v wattage which is probably y they moved to 80plus instead of bronze, couldnt make it standard.

Wow, yeah good call Silv. That definitely looks like it. Either it or the TE-LX one for sure with tweaks for just two rails. Yeah those don't scream quality to me.

But but, their slogans says "Power Supply the best partner you can trust"

Recently HEC OEMs have been showing huge issues with efficiency and ripple suppression, so i wouldn't even touch it

No, no, I kid, I kid....It's a great power supply.....for me to poop on!!!!!

screw thermaltake, i wouldnt use anything with that branding on it. if you want a real 1200w PSU that is somewhat cheap. Get the new antec 1200w PSU, thing is an absolute monster

That it is...its based on the same Enhance like the Silverstone...isn't it?

Personally, I'm hoping the EVGA 1200 watt unit is decent.... :cum:

If they dont fuck up the Enhance/Antec psu with crap parts it should be perfect. I demand at least Nippon/Rubycon and a good design...maybe lose the racing stripes and 80mm fan. Lol

I am not willing to shell out extra cash just for a name, and honestly thats all the EVGA PSU is

very true...if its priced more its a no go. Truthfully the Antec is already a slight turn off with those annoying capacitors.

Talking shows that Corsair is also making a 1200HX as well, but no one knows anything and Redbeard won't talk :|

This is understandable, but it really all depends on the final price and feature set.

~200-250 for a good fully-modular (none of this partially modular bullshit like Corsair's units...) PSU with a crapload of connections may well be worth it in my book... 300 for an OK partially-modular PSU though is bullshit...

Lol, rly? Ur annoyed by partially modular cables that u have to use anyways? I mean, u need a 24pin cable modular? or PCIe? Ok...i could see the benefit if u do a lot of sleeving, but it doesnt seem like a feature I'd pay $50-100 more for.

And where do we see an "OK", $300 partially modular PSU? I mean, I'm sorry,...but this is just mindless rant

My issue is that if I'm going to pay 200+ for a PSU, I don't want to have to void the fucking warranty to make it look the way I want it to. I want to be able to sleeve or outright replace all the cables WITHOUT opening the damned unit. That's why my next PSU may well be a silverstone....

its max rating is 100w so if you were pulling say 900w max off it you would be ok but their ripple is as said before insane! if youre into modifying maybe good it it only costs like $100 but you'll have to modify it to clean up that ripple for sure

It's the same as the Antec one.

Generally, I go by the "Friends don't let friends buy Thermaltake" rule, but their higher end PSUs aren't as crap as anything else they sell.

The 1200W is...

Yep the Thermaltake Toughpower is one hell of a psu I don't own one myself but I know people who do and it's pretty solid.

I recently got a Enermax Evo 1200w to replace my Corsair HX1000 that died in my E759 rig
and I gotta say it's a pretty decent psu it even came with a free apollish fan (nice fan but a little to gimmicky for me) you can pick one for $239 bucks after rebate, but if you got the coin get a Silverstone Strider 1500w.

I got one for my upcoming E762 build and comparing them side by side to my Corsair and Enermax psu's the Strider is in a class by itself hands down.

I have owned my Toughpower 1200w for two years now and not a single problem. No ripples, nada! Every review on the toughpower series is outstanding.

I can't speak for the non toughpower series PSUs from Thermaltake but you would be hard pressed to find a more reliable PSU than the toughpowers.

As far as this new PSU from Thermaltake goes. Find reviews, solid reviews that include ripple tests. If you can't find any, stay away. This goes for any PSU at this power level though.

We do realize guys that this ISNT the Toughpower.

The Toughpower 1200W was the CWT PUC like the Corsair HX, and the new XT series is on CWT as well, but this is the TR2.
The TR2 is just a shitty HEC unit with failing rails and power. STAY AWAY FROM ANYTHING HEC!!!

My good to go list is basically this:
Corsair, Silverstone Strider Plus, Antec TP New (low end but still great) Signature and 1200 Quattro, Seasonic (X is amazing), XFX
