I wanted to do a semi industrial/steampunk look with brass braided hoses and compression fittings (plumping compression ie. JIC 37 flared)
Between getting real brass braid or SS brass colored and the required fittings to change from BSPP to JIC or even NPT .... I was even interested in Pi-ton fittings, a la Orac case, till I saw the price. Fuck it. This rig needs to be built.

I'm just going to go with 7/16" tubing and compression fittings with heatshrinked on gold mylar sleeving.

Questions. The PET and mylar braids are not super fine weave. More meshlike. I want braided hose look, in gold. So do I double/triple sleeve it?
Or is there something out there that is "more braidlike"?

I want brass compression fittings, with tarnish ;)
What is the cheapest fastest way to take off tin/nickel coatings.?

If above coating stripper is viable, I might go with mcmasters tin coated copper sleeving. Pissed me off they didn't have plain copper or brass. Fuck the tin! fuck it! Why can't people passivate it or dip in a polyurethane lacquer?

Do I have to heatshrink sleeving to tube or can I run sleeving under compression fitting top. (the part that screws down over barb)
what about heatshrink under compression top?

CLR strips compressions.

Double/triple sleeve it. Remember that when you heatshrink it. Heatshrink after tightening tube on compression but outside the collar. I'd leave sleeving outside it too.

Sandblasting would also work for stripping the fittings. Not sure how much this would cost though, each shop is different.

I have a sandblaster w/ chamber and some spare time the next couple weeks. If you'd like send, 'em my way.

You be better off asking the fittings manufacturer to provide un-plated fittings, they should be willing because it's less work on their part.

In trying to find a viable source for sleeving on Prometheus I looked EVERYWHERE for reasonable quantities of bare copper braided sleeving - I found none in the right sizing... and cost was no issue, I just had to have it.

In the end I went with Nylon Multifilament sleeving over 1/2" fatboys, locked with Pi-Ton Hose-Locks... it still worked out to over $1100 on the tubing alone... fuck I must be nuts.

You'll have a lot of trouble getting rid of the tinning on the tinned copper/brass sleeving - I'd argue it to be impossible without damaging the braid.

If you want sleeving you cant see though then the MDPC-X sleeving from murdermod is impressive... however it's black.

thanks guys.

I love how everyone here gives advice but doesn't push their own agenda or fanboyism on each other. :coke:

Ok, more questions.

If I have 7/16" -5/8" tubing, do I have to use bitspower BP-CPF-CC6, or can I use their 1/2" 3/4" compression fitting?

Kayin, so CLR dissolves nickel or chrome?!? But not tin?

wonder if brass would work? Probably give myself cancer :p

So, I should call Vincent and see what he says, if it's a no go. Then I think I'll take you up on your offer Langer.

CLR wont dissolve the nickel or chrome off your barbs.
CLR attacks Calcium, Lime, and Rust build-ups, AFAIK none of those materials even contain any of the same base elements as nickel or chrome.

Brass is fine - it wont kill you, and its much more "steam punk" than copper is.

Id totally PM vincent, but keep in mind it's Chinese new years soon(recently?) so I think he's away on vacation... I'm actually waiting for a response on the very same request.

You'll want to get 7/16x5/8" fittings, don't use the 1/2x3/4" ones.

7/16 5/8 on bitspower 1/2 3/4 compression it won't grip properly, and you can pull the tubing off easily...
