Thats exactly what I did.... maybe its the other two, mine has a total of six prongs on it, two for the LED, and the other two... god knows what?

hook it up to a power source and get the voltmeter out and see what posts are reading,

2 are normally open, 2 are normally closed, and the other 2 are for the LED. Ohm meter is your friend.

wtf does open and closed mean D: Damnit I need to know more about electronics.

If it's the ring version, it might have 2 leds instead of one, hence 2 extra connectors ?

A switch always need only 2 connectors and a led, 2 as well.

Found this, but makes no sense to me D:

open is off ..closed is on if i remember right I think ?

Normally open means you have to push it to complete the circuit. Normally closed means you have to push it to open the circuit.

Generally, they nip off the ends of the normally closed so you can't use them (don't need to use them)

Common would be normally closed (you don't want)
Push Down is (normally open) which is what you DO want.

So you want pins 3&4 and it doesn't matter which side is which. And you said you already have your LED's working.

stay away from that 1 for its a dead short by pic config

looks if its a 2x SPST switch (""http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Switch)

there's 2 types of switches momentary and stationary

turbo switches are stay on type unless rip out the latch wire to convert momentary

start / reset switches are momentary

best thing to do is get a DVM with diode checker an check circuits with it

connect lead to 1 post then with other check rest where you get zero (means closed, shortted) then push button an check if open

This is sposed to be a momentary switch? what did you mean by "its a dead short by pic config" ?

if you give me a link to the button you bought, I can look at the datasheet and help.

hmm no more then the already posted diagram.

so pins 3 and 4 should be going to your power switch header as you have already mentioned.

do you have a multimeter to aid in testing?

LOL, I used to work at a call center for Road Runner ISP, Id get crap like this:

"I got my modem today, and I still dont have internet."

"Is the modem plugged in?"

"Yes"

"Is your "Connection" light on steadily?"

"Yes"

"Is the data light blinking?"

"No"

"Did you plug your computer into the modem?"

"No."

Switching S.P. Push to make, tactile S.P.

S.P. = Single Pole (only makes contact on 1 circut)
Push to make = Momentary switch (have to push to make contact)
tactile? damn engrish, they are trying to mean at rest or (not pushed)

So 2 contacts are on when at rest, and 2 contacts are on when pressed. Look at the pic

Yes,

the circuit is open, meaning broken or not making contact.
the circuit is closed, meaning making contact.

thanks R3

looks to me that's it a 2x dual contact with comm being center as per lamptrons poor illustration +/- are the center terminals

but still best use DMM to check circuits to find the comm terminal

note: R3 / admin

i can't upload a pic for this issue .......need more gigawatts.....space
