Is this a new monitor, or just a new card?
I had the same exact problem with an Acer 24" monitor, I had to end up taking the damn thing back as it wouldn't work with my 8800GTX's.
Bought two Samsung 2493HM's and they worked fine. Do you have a different machine you can hook the monitor up to?
this is just my temp system while the main rig is on the go.
it is a new card,the monitor works fine with a 7800 gtx,8800gts 512,8800 ultra
i think it may be an nvidia driver issues-edid values or something.
i can run it at 1024x768,anything bigger and it moves the screen to the left again

Try to de-gauss your monitor. Your monitor should have a feature to center the image. Its just off-center, and it can happen. Nothing's defective. Make you that you have the native resolution f your monitor up.. ie, 1920x1200 70 Hz etc

there is no setting for degauss,i thought that was only for crt monitors.

Correct, that's for CRT monitors. However, there is usually a automatic adjustment option.

can you go dvi to dvi, and skip the HDMI as a test.
can you go dvi to dvi, and skip the HDMI as a test.
i will pick up a cable tomorrow.i will be fuckin pissed if it is a driver problem
here is a link i have dug up,apparently you have to modify the nv4dsp file after extracting the files before installing
http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1343988
its getting late im tired.i cant do a dvi-dvi,its only hdmi or vga inputs.

Have you tryed different drivers?
I know when I had this problem with the Acer, the auto-adjustment button wouldn't do crap, and drivers didn't fix the problem either. When I took the Acer back for a refund, it worked fine on their 7600 card, go figure.

its the HDMI ;) I have had problems with it before, going back to DVI fixes it, in the Nvidia settings there should be a place to adjust the screen position and size ;) have a look there first

that is the problem.the issue is that the lg245wp has only a hdmi and vga port.
i am going to try and modify the nv4dsp inf file, and add the correct edid info

The GTX280 is using HDMIv1.3a whereas your screen is likely using HDMIv1.2 or older.
I searched, but I couldn't find reference to its HDMI version, however considering it's initial manufacturing date is pre-June 08 HDMI v1.2 seems likely.
Therein lies your problem.
To solve this - replace your screen, or step down to VGA (you should have a few DVI-VGA adapters... everyone does).

thnx for reply langer.well what a croxck of shit that is if true.not replacing the screen thats for sure.
if the driver hack doesnt work, then vga will be the next step.

In the future get a screen with DVI support... don't fuck with what works.
HDMI has absolutely no benefit for PC monitors anyway.

What would cause a DVI cord to stop working? I had to use the reg cord instead for some reason.

Could be a number of things.
Damaged ports, wires, plugs, or even PCBs could cause that for starters

touche, but how the hell was i to know that a new series card would not work.
there has to be a fix somewhere.
i wonder if a monitor firmware update would do the trick.

Only time I've had that issue is when I had the resolution set wrong for the particular monotor I'm running. That setting isn't on the monitor, it's on the PC via the V Cards control panel. It looks like you have the res set to high for the way that monitor's resolution is for that connection you have going to it.

i dunno what to say.lol.
it ran at 1920x1200 no issues before.
there are some settings i was looking at in the nv cp,that could have something to do with it,but they are greyed out.

plug the monitor in via VGA, change the settings, then try HDMI again. It's likely that the monitor is coming up as a "tv" and not showing as your primary video display.
Also, looking at the picture, it seems that HDMI isn't allowing the screen scaling to work. You might have to change the scaling to the video card, instead of the monitor (default).. Lower the res to 1024x768 so you can work with it, then keep trying different settings until you get it to work.
Remember, unless you tell it that you have a monitor plugged into your hdmi (driver hack) it thinks it's a tv. and generally, tv's can't display that high of resolution.
would vista handle this any different than xp?
i had erred when modding the inf file,i have to place a line under 3 keys.
i posted at a forum, the person has the same monitor as i and that was the fix.
this is still a bunch of bs.to go through.if i had known this before purchasing i would have went ati.

As stated above, the problem comes from the HDMI versions, they handle 2-way communication and scaling differently.
I've seen the same problem a dozen times using LCD's as media displays in home automation systems.
The HDMI switches I was using back then for the installs was a new versions than the receivers driving the signal - we encountered the same kind of scaling problems. In some cases with early gen HDMI receivers the dsiplay was very muddled up in terms of both colour and scale.
MUTHAFUCKA-i fixed the bastard.it is purely a godamn nvidia driver problem.
here is the lowdown
[nv_SoftwareDeviceSettings_C7x], [nv_SoftwareDeviceSettings_GT2x] [nv_SoftwareDeviceSettings]
the above are 3 keys within the nv4dsp.inf file
this is the info that was added in those 3 keys
HKR,, OverrideEdidFlags0, %REG_BINARY%,1E,6D,24,56,00,00,FF,FF,04,00,00,00,7 E,01,00
that is edid info-the 1st 4 binaries, then windows monitor info
removed drivers from add\remove
safe mode-run driversweeper
at desktop extract drivers-these were 180.20`s
cancel install
modify the inf-save,then run setup.exe
thanks for sharing my anguish to happyland

Are you using a DVD-D --> HDMI adaptor? Or have you added a 3.5mm plug connection as well?
If so, most of those don't output audio because your GFX cards can't output audio.

no 3.5,i think i was reading so many posts today, that that just stuck in my head.
i uses an auzentech prelude, but maybe i didnt hook things up right

Congratufuckinglations!
Awesome workaround man, good job.

it certainly was a big clusterfuck to get it all sorted out.
in the end i was glad it was just a driver problem-an easy fix compared to a hardware swap-which my wife would have blown a gasket over i am sure.
