It will all be going under water in due course but running it on air at present for testing.
Anyway, just thought i'd share :)

Yeah, it's unfortunate that it isn't SSI EEB, cuts down on what oversized boards you can stuff into it.

I just noticed that the 24pin is on the top of the mobo.
Anyone else think that would be a good position for the 24pin on a normal ATX board?

Honestly it sucks as most power supplies don't have enough cable length to take it from the bottom of the case, around the back of the case and up and over. I'd be very surprised if CM wasn't using an extension, I know my HX620s cable isn't long enough for that.

Well yea. But if the standards changed then the PSUs would include longer wires to adjust to the new connector location.
But that aside I just like the way it looks.

Cheers guys though nothing to show :(
I met a fan manufacturer out at CeBIT in Germany who make black framed fans with yellow blades which were exactly what i was looking for and as they were located in Taiwan i made arrangements to have them send a load of samples to Vincent who is shipping them to me along with some of his grills.
Just taking a little longer than expected but should be here soon so i can get on :crack:

I've been away on holiday for a while so not much going on here but i did have a couple of XFX Radeon 5970's waiting for me so just got them installed on the bench.
Should have some Bitspower goodness turning up this week along with a bunch of fans i found from a new manufacturer in Taiwan so thanks to Vincent for shipping alltogether and i guess things should start moving pretty quick from here on in :)
This is turning into a pretty badass system but currently looks like :frankenstein:

While i was out at CeBIT earlier this month, i came across a new company called Reeven (http://reeven.net/) who turned out to be a great bunch of guys. As soon as i saw their fans i just knew i had to have some but the only ones they had were the display fans but luckily Vincent at Bitspower came to the rescue so a massive thanks to both him and Yasushi at Reeven.
As they are both located in Taiwan, i had the fans shipped to Vincent who forward them to me along with a bunch of his fan grills which i got to say are very nice indeed.
Anyway, i got a few mounted to a custom HardwareLabs SR-1 360 X-Flow and a standard 240 with Bitspower black 1/2" barbs and they look fantastic so i'm well happy.........just the look i was looking for:)

Why oh why didn't Corsair get in touch when they were designing this chassis as it could have been so much more water friendly with just a little bit more thought - i mean why only do half a job and make placement for a 360 rad up top when quite easily it could have accepted upto a 480.....and what's this secret compartment beside the PSU all about.
Corsair, give me a call :D
Anyway, what could have been an easy job of mounting a 240, side on, vertically has turned into a complete strip down with major surgery and then having to build a whole new false centre floor due to the hose holes and the fan grill being totally useless
So a few pictures of the de-riveted 800D just before the jig-saw comes out ChainSaw

Well here we go with loads of pictures :D
Basically cut the corner of the motherboard tray and also a section off the false floor then marked out a piece of 1.5mm aluminium sheet.
Bent a lip onto it with a (dirty wet) bend brake for strength which replicates the bit i cut off the stock one.
Few cuts with a jig-saw and jobs a gud'n :)
It will be riveted together for strength and obviously powder coated black after i find out where to cut the two holes for hose but that's pretty much it.

Yeah the hot swap cage will go back in but its totally dependant on the mid plate to keep it in place.
Its a strange way of building a case i must admit and without the mid plate the whole case is real flimsy TBH.
My plan is to keep both sections totally independent air flow wise so will see how that turns out :)
480 in a 800D now were talking :crack:

That's what I was afraid of, it being flimsy. That's why they did the recess at the top for a 360, because the top panel was flimsy if it didn't have that bump down. Trying to figure out if a SR-2 would fit.
Can't wait to see what you do with the side panel for that radiator.

Got the centre plate all riveted together so just need holes cut for hose routing but can't do that just yet until i get the GPU blocks fitted and see where the barbs line up so i can cut the holes and then get it powder coated satin black.
Also got a nice present off EK - a couple of Nickel / Acetal 5970 blocks complete with black back plates so best get these fitted
As you can see, i'm using matt black BP fittings and his new link pipe :)

Only problem with mounting it on the floor is that once the fans are on there is only a couple of inches gap which i thought would be bad for airflow. For sure i'll have ventilation in both side panels so airflow goes straight through :)

I have the same case, and I'm starting to feel that for its pretty spacious interior, a lot of it can not be put to good use. For example, the fan on the midplate that is supposed to bring fresh, filtered air from the bottom chamber of the case to the motherboard area makes it difficult to mount a pump / reservoir directly onto the midplate without some sort of stand-offs. I also think that there should have been an additional, designed spot for a 2x120 radiator in the bottom section - I have seen numerous builds where people take out the bottom HD cage to create space for the 2x120 radiator, something that could have been foreseen by Corsair when they designed a case of these proportions.
coolmiester
04-12-2010, 11:17 AM
I couldn't agree more Rezistor.
Its like the designer had a few good ideas then passed the project onto someone else who didn't know how to carry the ideas through.
Given that Corsair added grommets for hose to pass though the centre section, they obviously thought about watercooling yet they made it practically impossible to mount a radiator down there without major surgery though with a little more thought it could have easily been implemented into the design to have a detachable caddy with a bracket for dual rad should you wish.
cheapskate
04-12-2010, 11:19 AM
You snuck that radiator in there perfectly. It really does look stock.
Are those pencil marks around the Boston logo? Does that mean you filed that down by hand again?

Cheers for the feedback as always
Things are starting to get going now with a final test fit of all blocks and cards.
Its always a worry if you thought everything through and things will line up but its pretty much how i imagined it would look and should make for a couple of nice clean loops........just which the board PCB wasn't green but not much i can do about that :(
Anyway, a few pictures as always :)

Looks straight to me.:D I think you are seeing the slant in the top fitting. The top card is saging at the rear. But i'm sure he knows and he is surely not finished. LOOK'IN SWEET MAN. I LIKE...;)

He probably could. Just use thermal adheasive or a thermal pad. May not be the best way, heck, may not be a good way at all, but atleast it can be done. Although, could a thermal adheasive/ pad work better than that little fan?

Just about to drill the mount holes for the TFT display, hence the blue tac holding it in but thought i'd get a few pictures before filling the loops.
The window will also have black out film on it so it all matches shiny black but its not looking to bad overall :crack:

Hey guys, cheers for all the feedback which is always welcome and my apologies for the late reply.
I literally just got finished today and this won't be on any other forum for a while so you guys got an exclusive :)
Only thing i'm not happy with is the liquid colour as Feser made me some yellow which should match the fans...........but it doesn't and is more green
Not a lot i can do about it this late in the game as i'm dropping this off in the next day or so and it will be making its way to Computex in Taiwan.
Anyway, a few pictures......well quite a lot actually :D

Paul, grab some of THIS (http://www.wcdyes.com/Shop/5ml-dropper-bottle/26-mayhems-dye-5ml-yellow.html) dye and it will come out a yellow, it also won't clog like feser, it will stain after a year if you don't drain it though.

It turned out excellent. I wonder how many people will call the screen image "London Bridge" when it is really not.
