That thing gets me all confused.
I've seen that tri-SLI has physx already built in. Actually, I've seen two-SLI + physx beating out tri-sli.
Now I see EVGA pimping tri-SLI and adding a fourth card, which I assume doesn't have to be the same as the other three.
It would seem to me that two GTX295 plus one GTX285 for physx would beat out a tri-sli GTX285 set up.
When does the craziness stop?

Well, the PhysX working on a separate card takes the load off the CPU and GPUs and allows the primary cards to run the graphics.
Physics is not that stressful yet, which is why in the EVGA example, they use a 9800GT, which should be more than enough to run physics.
For my, using a GTX 285 for physics is a huge waste of that card, when a 9800 GT or GTX could do the job.
Also, you need to define what you mean by "beat". SLI+PhysX beating tri-SLI in what? Vantage? Games?
I'm also interested in this setup as it looks to be in my very near future.
Lol i'm wit you on this ian........ heck, can someone explain to me what this "Phsysx" stuff is? lol.....
edit: haha wow.... i totally accidently posted this way late.. my bad.
thanks zlojack!
Hmmmmm, may have to get a Physx card now.......... :D

The madness stops when we quit buying. Also after I get my 4870x2s.

why you say that?

The madness is simply dictated by what the market will bear. It's already possible to model the physics with less, just with tighter written software. We simply like to throw money at the problem, though, instead of slow down and code properly.
I'm learning a lot from my game programmer friends. Not enough to program, but with my degree in philosophy, enough to easily understand how the logic is set up.

what you dont see though is ati borrowing money from everyone they can just to keep the company afloat. its looking pretty grim and it has been for a few years. i would not be surprised if they go under soon.

Well, I still think my grand will be well spent. Superior image quality and less headaches overall.
