View Full Version : Anyone Use EK Southbridge Waterblock For A Sriker II Formula?

Long story, but I was thinking about getting this mobo as a replacement, but my research has led me to believe that if I use my SLI 8800GTXs
with full cover EK waterblocks (FC 8800), then the barbs for this EK southbridge waterblock would interfere.

See this picture of the problem:

Here is the EK southbridge block:

I have sent Eddy an email, but would appreciate any other users confirming either it has now been fixed or it is still a problem.

I think (maybe) I read about this and that he put out a revision.

WOW.... That is another design flaw of EK...:shake:

This block, 280GTX block, 780i NB and recently the ASUS RIIE....:shake:

I'm glad we have Vincent w/BitsPower to continue innovating and turning out quality blocks...:2up:

What happened with the RIIE?

And OP, keep us posted on what reply you get from Edddy!!

Eddy's NB/SB block doesn't cover the DRAM mosfets like the BitsPower block, the EK block places the barb location in a way that negates the use of the PCIe slot.

I do not think BP has made a block for the S2F, nor do I think they will since it is getting long in the tooth.

I wish they did though.

Good to hear this. I already thought it was a very old pic and Eddy already fixed the issue.

Good work by Eddy. I thought there had been a revision of that block.

Revisions are bitch, iMO, you spend the time to design it right the first time.

I still stand by my previous post.

Eddy is getting a little to full of himself. It's time for a new King of Pr0n...:king:

I agree... While Eddy is nice to fix the issue, it shouldn't have happened in the first place.

Wow, this wasn't the Eddy I talked to when my 680i mosfets were fucked up. I bought a pair of 680i EK mosfets for my EVGA 680i, the mounting holes were off by like 2mm and Eddy said my board was the problem. I tryed it on 5 other reference EVGA 680i boards, wouldn't work on any of them, he still wouldn't admit that his blocks were screwed up.

I stand behind you 100% RR, as I've personally been burned by Eddy.

Sorry to hear that Baleful.

If you look at all the online etailers, they all show the same picture:

http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/chwa.html

These pictures may be old, but the barb locations do not look like they have been revised. This is why I am concerned about getting the old version.

Maybe I will PM Gary (Sidewinder) to check and see.

In regards to BP finish, I am not real keen on the shiny finish either. I prefer the matte black of Delrin.

Maybe you can get Gary to get you this:

AC Striker II Formula Full Cover Block. (http://shop.aquacomputer.de/product_info.php?products_id=2028)

Here is what the inside looks like. Well, at least the 780i version but I imaging they are similar.

I actually saw this block, but someone somewhere said it had an interference issue on the mobo.

Weird. Well, maybe you can order from EK direct? I've ordered stuff from there, and it usually takes about a week to get to me in Michigan from Slovenia. That way, you can be assured of getting a correct one. Or, if you buy one in US, and it's not the newest version, Eddy will hook you up. I've had stuff missing from my EK8800GTX block and Eddy sent me everything right away.
