Ive shot many things with a red cam.
It's a very impressive price of kit, most notably -for me at least- is it's ability to capture 120fps.

I really look forward to getting my dick wet with the Epic version upon it's release.

The red camera is a work of art - and it looks tits because they hired Oakley to design it.

It's an HD camera that uses its own RAW "RED" format.

The beauty of this camera is that it films at resolutions nearly equal to that of Film - but FILM is incredibly expensive. The costs of this camera can be offset by the costs of film alone in one movie.

The really fantastic thing for me in my expereince with it - besides the fact that it's just the coolest thing on the planet - is it's ability to record at 120frames per second.

Imagine taking an 18mega pixel SLR camera and being able to take 120 pictures a second!!??! This camera can do that.

The costs in comparison to the existing technologies in "hollywood level" cameras is MINIMAL. In-fact a popular HD camera -known as the Genesis camera- costs about $250,000... a full Red package would put you under $50,000.

I've used these beasts on some contracts in the past and they are the bomb.
I'm open to answer any queries you all may have about this beast.

Howdy guys,

the red camera is quite a revolution. Sadly at the moment almost everything is vaporwear apart from the original "red one"

The "scarlet" is slated for release this fall 2009. 3k sensor, 8x fixed zoom, 120fps for 3750 USD. Should be an amazing handycam (I say handycam, but really it'll get used for cheap doco's and small independant features).




I've had the original red one demonstrated to me, amazing stuff. This thing fully optioned up costs about the same as the hire of most other cameras.


The post production guys I know are rather anxious about such a camera, claiming "its work flow is not as nice" but what they are really scared about is if you've bought a red for say 1/8th the price of some of the other contenders, all you need is a quad core pc, final cut pro or premier pro, and all of a sudden armatures work their way into the bottom end of the market.

Full Sail has several of these that the students use to create their projects in the Film Degree. I see them walking around with these babies all the time, especially now that the web degree has moved to the build right next to film.

My friend goes to Sheridan, and apparently they have one of these for the students. Unfortunately it was in use the day I was on campus, so we were stuck using a Sony XDCAM EX HD for the project we were working on.

The Sony camera was hot, filming in 1080/30p but I'm sure the Red was much MUCH nicer.

3D porn would be amazing. Would inspire a new level of motivation for me during installs.

Problem is 90% of the 3d DCinema installations going in (in Australia at least) are subject to a Virtual Print Fee, aka VPF. Not quite sure of the situation states side.

The VPF deal is an agreement between the exhibitors and the six big Hollywood studios. The agreement excludes any content that didn't come from one of the six studios. 3D porn could only be run on non VPF covered equipment, so 3D porn is never going to happen in the exhibition world

We were shooting from five in the evening to four in the morning. No breaks, but often waiting periods where you had to be ready to jump up and do a scene at the drop of a hat. I now have immense respect for anyone who was ever involved in a half-decent action movie.

Apparently, the video should go online sometime and there will be an online vote. So I'll be needing y'all to go vote. :D

Unfortunately, the makers were limited to five minutes including credits and many scenes had to be severly cut down to size. I personally mainly mourn the nice fighting scenes...

Yes, the camera is absolutely awesome and I think the films strong point is the lighting and camera work. There are some really good shots in there, IMO.

I'm hoping to convince the makers of this to do an extended cut of the fighting scenes for me. :D
