:bird: ASUS

In 2007 I bought a new system with a screen.

1st I had 1 faulty 3870
2nd I had a DOA 3870
3rd My Asus VW222U 22" LCD started to fck up green lines across the screen.
No one knew what was happening with my screen they were saying it was the gpu.... or my psu wasn't powerful enough... RMed to Asus (replaced panel and some wires) (they paid for postage) now fixed.
4th I had random BSODs memory managment (faulty cpu) still yet to be RMAed.

Now my screen has just started doing it again....

Can I ask Asus for a new screen other then getting them to fix the one I have or can I ask for a refund?
Any suggestions?

I swear I have real bad luck when it come to computers.... something always seems to go wrong

You can ask for a new screen, they may do it, but legally they aren't obligated to give you a brand new one.

Doesn't hurt to ask though.

Heh, it's Asus. I don't know what the hell you were expecting. Asus has been known (infamously) for their crappy customer service.

OT: What happened to the chat?

What should I replace the screen with?

Any suggestions? budget about $1K AUD approx $914 USD

22" and above preferred, 1-3 Monitors

& wall mounted

Uses: I'm going to do Industrial Design next year...

CAD (SW, 3DS MAX, RIHNO, AC) if i ever get around to learning it properly..., CS4/Sketchbook Pro, Photo editing, Gaming (not so much anymore)

And I was looking into getting a 12" Wacom LCD tablet = 1.5k AUD....

When: Next month? I dono I'll prollly need another GPU...

You can get a decent 30" monitor for that price, it's a bit of adjusting, but you'll love it once you get used to it. Lots of space. Think of it like this, each of the four corners is a 1280x1024 monitor all to itself, which means you have room to run four apps at that res, all on one screen.

The refresh isn't going to be killer at that kind of res, but you should be able to do non-hardcore gaming with no problems.

I role with 4 of these (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824001337) at work and 1 at home and absolutely love them!

Holy shit dude, that's some mad money there. This is one of those times where it would help to know someone who gets good pricing directly from Dell; I talked to a guy back in March about a monitor from Dell, and the quote he gave me is less than I've ever seen it for either before or since. I'd go into more details, but the actual pricing was confidential...

What about the Dell U2410 24-inch Monitor?
I have seen it in action, and the colors are fucking amazing, it has amazing input choices, and is generally a cheap IPS monitor, unlike some of the others that is retard expensive.

But keep in mind it is not a preferred gaming monitor as it has a input lag of 6ms

Well I don't game much anymore, well not hardcore gaming...

The Dell U2410 24-inch Monitor looks promicing CrixD

Pricing:

Dell Australia
Dell™ G2410 24" Widescreen Flat Panel Monitor S16G2410WAU $549.00
Dell™ U2410 24" Ultrasharp™ Widescreen Flat Panel Monitor S14U2410WAU $799.00

Dell screen's flickering (http://en.community.dell.com/forums/t/19272263.aspx) < that dosnt sound to good but it looks like you can disable that feature...

G2410 review cnet (http://www.cnet.com.au/dell-g2410-339296020.htm#comment-list) its a TN panel?

CrixD

The G2410 is a tn panel which is great for gaming, but when it comes to color, graphics and such, then it is just like a regular screen, nothing really special.

And about flickering, all TN based panels more or less have flickering, due to the design of it, a normal eye does not catch it, unless you really try to see it, or the fact you have a damaged monitor.

About the U2410, then I believe you also get the Dell Premium Panel Service in three years included in the price, where they simply just hand over a new monitor if the one you bought has any issues - But again that might just be in EU, dunno about the Aussie policies.

Id say go with the Dell U...
Its an IPS panel so imo its much more superior

Edit: I have these links to look up the Panel OEM and type
Here (http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/panelsearch.htm)
and here (http://www.flatpanelshd.com/panels.php)

Also my 2 cents is that if u intend on doing Windows and desktop related stuff...id stick with 16:10. Ive read several articles that have stated with apps and such it works better in overall conformity with 16:10 over 16:9

I bought an Asus VW266H from ExcaliberPC for a pretty good deal about 3 weeks ago, but it started to develop these red lines across the screen a couple of days after I got it so I rma'd it..

They had me send it to Fremont, CA. the tech at first asked if I wanted to send it OZ land because of my location.. But I asked to send it to the U.S. instead.

Well it came back 5 days later in an Asus box in better condition than from where I originally bought it from. I shipped it bare no stand, power cord,DVI cables,manual.. All of that was in the box I got back the monitor even had all the protective film and product stickers on it too. I checked the serial#'s on it and it's different from the one I registered when I first got it.

It's been running for about a week now and all is good  it's a pretty decent monitor for the price and the rma experience turned out way better than I expected so yeah..

This sales guy at harvey norman is trying to sell my mum a TV and hes like you need to buy a serge protector "monster serge protector" of course load of bull shit any $20 should be able to do it right. + I dont know what tv to get

LCD 32-42" $1,000-$1,500 AUD she was looking at the sharp 42" LCD one with the xbox elite deal.

Silverion77
12-19-2009, 06:27 PM
Yea, every pushes the Monster stuff...they're paid to and they get a nice commission.

In the realm of TV's I'm not really fond of Sharp. I'd personally look at LG in that range for bang/$$$. U can look at HDGuru.com...he had some nice suggestions based on price range.

Also, what about Plasma. Panasonic Plasmas can be kick ass...especially for the price. It should be good, but the room lighting would really make the decision.

One thing to keep in mind with a surge protector for a TV, is that you'll want it to have protection for coax as well as power, and possibly even network. My father has been using Panamax (IIRC) surge protectors for years, and has on more than one instance had the surge protectors fry, but hasn't yet had any protected equipment die in a surge.

Honestly though, if you're serious about your home theater gadgetry, then I recommend that you get a GOOD UPS that does output line sine wave filtration and similar so that your hardware gets CLEAN power, which should help with the consistency of your picture quality, and hopefully the overall longevity of the hardware.

I didn't know UPC barcodes help with longevity of the hardware :coke:
