W00T! You heard that all you Intel fans. Just when you thought the 920 was going to be discontinued, Intel came along and announced the 930. I'm really glad since everyone who wanted a 920 doesn't have to rush out there and buy one now. We'll just wait for the 930, perhaps it will be based on a 32nm wafer ;).

Quoted from Techpowerup:

Intel's Core i7 LGA-1366 performance segment processors is in for another update, past the recent introduction of the Core i7 960 (3.20 GHz). The newest entry replaces the popular Core i7 920, and leverages the company's socket LGA-1366 platform as the ultimate high-performance desktop platform. The Core i7 930, like all processors in the Core i7 900 series, runs on motherboards with the Intel X58 Express chipset. The processor comes with a clock speed of 2.88 GHz. Assuming it retains the base frequency of 133 MHz, we're not entirely sure how 2.88 GHz is worked out with a bus multiplier value that is a whole number. Since the Core i7 930 replaces the i7 920, it is expected to seat itself at the same price point of $299. Since this release comes slightly ahead of that of Intel's "Gulftown" 6-core processor, in Q1 2010, it remains to be seen if this processor continues to be built on the 45 nm HKMG process, or the newer 32 nm one.

From what I read on the article, it should be about $299 US. :D Not too expensive, price drops to follow probably.

very nice. I doubt it will be worth upgrading from a good 920, but at least they're answering the call. i9 looks awesome, but I think price will prohibit me from trying it.

There should always be the xeon equivalents of i9 if all they bring out is a $1000+ Extreme version on the consumer side. Hopefully we'll see lower clocked cheaper version that way. Some of the single socket WS boards (P6T6, P6T7, P6T WS) can run the 55xx series xeons as it is now.

nice that it is getting replaced with something rather then cut altogether, still I wonder what kind of improvements are under the hood.

I give up on the i9 since most signs point to a extreme only. have to wait and see though.

Hmm, that just might mean i7 920 clearance sales...

We'll see how this one pans out.

Hmm i can't wait that long to buy an i7 though... arg. I think i'll just have to get a 920 D0 for now.

Why do we have to be enthusiasts and get everything new that comes out? why??? :banghead:

LOL count yourself. I have been waiting way to long for my new rig after my last one died. You don't even want to know the specs of the POS I am on now, or you might piss yourself in fear that something this shitty surfs the site.
