To ansewer my own Question YES I love this board WHY U ask ? it has most all the bells & whistles that the ROG line by Asus can give . It's DDR2 memory is cheap , watercooling parts are easy to come by for the board . The Bios Setup Is easy to learn, the bios are quite mature ,it's a great starter board that any NEW enthusiast can clock & there is loads of info out on the web on the MoBo , Yes there is that X48 chipset but as long as u use memory for the MoBo that works well with the X48 & cool the chipset o/cin is fun & easy
here's a link to a review of the MoBo
http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=3208
also check all the positive reviews that are on NewEgg about this board ,they have sold a boatload of them
Lastly if ya Don't have the coin to go i7 or don't want to be an early adopter of the new Intel i7's & the new mobo's that are following this is the board for you
I've got 2 of them one with a Q9650 Intel's GEM of the 775 sockets 45mn's on one R/F & the QX9770 on the other both are over 4 GHz & rock stable
i was enjoying my rampage, the little i have had it running, till the past weekend and i am now faced with the dreaded 'cpu init' error on the lcd poster.
believe me i have tried everything under the sun to get it to post, but no go.
crappy part is i bought the board off a member at rfd,so i do not know if asus is going to rma it for me.

what memory are u using as that is a memory issue
G.Skill work the best in that mobo

i have mushkin redlines,i have tried other ram also.
Clear yer CMOS & remove the battery for at least an hour load back into defaults set everything at auto then swap out all the memory you have
then if u still get the problem it's a memory compatabitly issue & like I said G.Skills work the best
i use these all very well

these are pricey but are the best out there in memory the mobo flies on this shit & they are hard to come by
I'm suprised NewEgg has them in stock

I have a set of Mushkin Redline on my Maximus Formula and it works great. I never heard of a compatibility problem between Mushkin sets and Asus boards. As bigslappy said, clear the cmos, leave everything at auto then check.
You can also email greg at mushkin dot com to ask for a set of timings for the Rampage Formula and he will provide a tested set. He is a walking encyclopedia of timigs ;)
About the thread, why not the Maximus Formula as well ? Mine is a MF with the BIOS flaged to Rampage Formula 0308.

how many of Ya got one of these flashed to the Rampage Formula BIO's ?

I'll start a thread for that MoBo
I'm thinking more of using the current thread for the MF as well with "ASUS MAXIMUS/RAMPAGE FORMULA LGA 775 Intel X48 O/C'in Thread" as title. Both motherboards share the exact same specs and details beside the X38/X48 chipset only. Since the MF can be flashed to RF, the infos for either one could be relevant.

Beside me and bigslappy, who own a MF/RF and is the motherboard watercooled ?
Mine is a Maximus Formula flashed to RF 0308 BIOS as I mentionned above. The NB and mosfets is cooled with EK blocks (NB-SMAX and a pair of Mosfet Asus 3, with one filed down to fit the board since I had a brain fart and didn't order the 3a version). The SB is cooled by a Enzotech heatsink installed with a 3m thermal pad.
I got asked to outline what is the advantage of flashing the MF bios to the RF version so I'll try to list some (I'll expand with some research) :
-The BIOS options for configuring the memory is expanded on the RF bios for a more granular tweaking.
-The board timings is slighty altered to help more with FSB and memory bandwidth. It's still limited by the X38 chipset but it's better than nothing.
-A more sexier POST picture :D
i have done a 24 hour clear cmos with battery out,
-no chance of any shorts anywhere
-i have inspected the cpu socket, everything looks fine
-i have tried 3 different cpus e6750 q6600 e8600
-ps just for testing is an ocz 700 watt
-all connectors are plugged in properly
barebones boot vga,cpu nothing more
barebones with a hd and cdrom-no difference
have tried with an 8800gts,and a 7800gtx
-the cpu leds at the top of the board does not even light up
i cant see what plugging in gskill ram will do for me,as i cant even obviously get into the bios to change any settings
any other thoughts would be welcome!!
i bought the board at rfd, that being said i am going to attempt the rma

Yeah, sound like a defective board, especially if this happened out of the blue after working fine for some time.
Good luck with the RMA :)

anyone else with a Dead MoBo Asus if U call the RMA dept. @ Asus you will get a much faster turn around , do not start a trouble ticket on the support web site ,deal directly with the RMA dept PM if u need help

Oh Asus RMA where to begin
I sent my Maximus X38 SE in for RMA August 08, I got a pile o crap rev 1.03 wich as we know is a non se,
The board is so badly warped its rediculous, so after a few weeks with this board randomly rebooting, (I set my coffee cup on the desk and the vibration made the rig reboot) I call Asus, get my second RMA and sent the board in at there expense.
2 weeks later it comes back to me, I pull the fuzion block and SB to reseat with some nice Ceramique paste, put everything back together and push the button, to my amaze it booted for like 8 seconds and never turned on again. The bios is borked.
This is now my 3rd RMA since August 08, very very poor quality control, and even worse customer service, they make you feel like you have alot of nerve calling wondering where your board is.
There I feel better now:D

My Maximus X38 is flash'd to Rampage, I was one of the first who did and can tell you it makes the board 10 time better than what it was b4 the flash.
As you know Rampage has a very nice bios for overclocking, once they get the GTL's fixed for Quad core Rampage will be stellar, bios 701 is supposed to address this but I cannot confirm for Asus has my board atm
Sorry for the double post.. too many things going on at once

Welcome Grnfinger! Nice to see you over here!
I also flashed my Maximus to the Rampage bios. But I was lucky enough to have completely smooth sailing with that board and my QX9650 along with 8GB of Corsair Dominators running at 1133 MHz.
Sometimes I still think I'm an idiot for selling that system! :D

Grnfinger helped me a lot when I was learning the ins and outs of the Maximus Formula and the Rampage bios. He also sold me a killer 4.4GHz E8400!!!!
Generally, he gets the  !!!
Top notch guy!

Thanks for the kind words Jack.
Your still top shelf in my book, really came through on the 3870X2 deal.
I have my i920 cpu now and a tri channel kit of Corsair, still need a board, water blocks and a case, this weekend should be ready for the new build, if I can get a waterblock locally.
