Still running it, its my "screw with it till it breaks" rig. I use my iMac as my "always works" PC because well, I cant take it apart LOL. My X2 I play around with an OC etc, I got it up to 2.9ghz once D: but wasnt stable lol :) Runs 2.4ghz 24/7, which is only like a 15% oc, but oh well ^_^ Fun to toy around with  I wanna build a new system soon though, a little cheap one just to toy with.

How much space is on each of those hard drives? I get my drives from a local company at $0.10/gig for a 500gb server class drive (3gb/sec SATA WD Drives with some very nice read/write), so I stock up on them sumbitches  They throw in some 720's at random, its nice

Bigslappy hit the nail on the head, I was going to say the same thing.
Little camera's can do BIG things.

BTW, the powershot series ain't a bad series man, there like the best bang for buck and the quality is really good. :)

@Naekuh, hey man! Glad to see you here!
Nice pics... but where's my favorite "waterblock smiley"???? Thats like the best pic evar!!! xD

@Cutless, holy crap... $0.10 a gig?!? thats $50 for 500GB drive! Dang thats nice...
I have two seagate 500gb 32mb cache drives that I originally got for $115 at the local Central Computer (well, my dad got them for me as a gift but...). Now they sell for $65 from newegg:

and the 1TB's fell a LOT in price, so when they were 99 dollars i grab'd 4 that day. :P

Hey Zenith, are you using a high dof, or is it just that camera that's adding all that grain into those pictures? It's pretty bad man, especially in shadow areas.

ZeniTH
12-21-2008, 04:31 PM
yeah i shot that one with the lens full extended, with a 1600 ISO, and @ 2.8 so yeah "big time" DOF... I just have been with this camera for a month... i jump from a point and shoot... so im learning on the the way... that was one of my first shots on the light box... so you can imagine !!!!

and the other thing is that, the light box is for taking "macros" IMO... and not for getting good DOF... in the light box what we are looking for is a good definition of the item itself...

I was playing with dif focus points though...

would you mind sharing some advices and techniques on the light box... will be very welcome!!

ZeniTH

Hey Zenith, are you using a high dof, or is it just that camera that's adding all that grain into those pictures? It's pretty bad man, especially in shadow areas.

and another thing.... there is no shadow on the pictures...

and another thing.... there is no shadow on the pictures...

and i think that "photobucket" its hijacking my pictures...LOL

If there is light, there are shadows, allow me to demonstrate:

If things had no light, they would look kind of like this:

http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z6/Cutless1/nolight.jpg

Indoors if we put a lamp next to something we get a strong shadow like this:

http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z6/Cutless1/strongshadow.jpg

Outdoors the atmosphere diffuses the light and we get some global light mixed in and it looks something like this:

http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z6/Cutless1/strongandsoftshadow.jpg

When we put things in a light box its almost all global lighting as thats what we are shooting for and we get VERY soft shadows like this:

http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z6/Cutless1/softshadow.jpg

ZeniTH

No problem, lighting is a very difficult thing to master, why do you think its a four year degree at most colleges, and has a 6 year optional masters, and theres like 50 different lighting artists on movie sets that you see in the credits, its a crazy thing!

*edit* Hey mods, maybe one of you could snip these last few posts and integrate them into the photography guide thread so theya rent cluttering up the HWP threaD?

*edit 2* wow thats 1600 iso at full aperature? then thats really not bad grain for the iso setting o.o Try lowering the iso to 80 and taking the same shot with a longer exposure time to compensate (like ~3 seconds), and itll look 500x better because it wont have grain

CPU block for the build I will use them for wil be a watercool heatkiller V3. Funny I saw Langer had the same combination for his build ;). But I will post a worklog of this buil shortly on this (great) forum once I have made some substantial progress.

Do you live in germany, or do they all deliver internationally and you just emailed them?

Its hard to get in the US, as there are no distributors for it, but with MIPS you can call them/email them and they will let you order internationally, Im not sure with Watercool

Aquatuning.de has lots of MIPS and watercool stuff, not sure if they ship outside Europe.

Thanks, smee!

That's a Zern PQ+. It's made in Austria, it's very cheap, cools well and is probably the most restrictive block ever made. ^^

Here is a pic of what it looks like in it's original state:

http://www.abload.de/img/zernf3xh.jpg

I sanded it down because I was bored one day and I think now it looks better. :D

thanks HESmelaugh. saw them first being sold at swc; then by stroke of luck, it was available locally and acquired them thru a group buy hosted by a friend. :D

they're comparable (more like a clone) to scythe s-flex F's. makes me think they're re-branded Fs; since it also boasts of Fluid Dynamic Bearing (FDB) technology from Japan (Sony).

Wow... there are some really good photographers around here!!
Nice stuff....

I'll have to pull out my Canon 5D, with the macro lens and see if I can take some at least as good. Heaven knows I gots plenty of WC gear to take pictures of....

Off topic... on a slightly different note. My wife keeps telling me her pics, taken with her crappy kodak P&S, and Kodak easy share software, printed out on one of those little $100 dye sub printers with color boost turned up... turn out better than my 12Mp Canon 5D, photoshop elements, and a "real" Canon 9000 photo printer.
She took a pic of one of the kids sitting in the grass... she thinks it's the best picture, but the color saturation is so high, the grass is a weird shade of green, and the boys blue eyes almost "glow" hehe and she thinks it better than any of my "neutral" color saturation pics printed out on the canon 9000 photo printer.... hehehe

I like how it's more interesting with shades and highlights on your pics.

Thanks!

As for the settings for the pic... I really don't know anymore. I took those pics months ago.
To give you a general idea, the Pic was shot with a Nikon D50, black cardboard background, no lights, one UV-cathode. Camera set to manual, relatively high aperture (between 5 and 6 I would think) and rather long exposure.

All of the UV-Pics I take are manually color corrected in photoshop since I find that the pictures never look like the UV objects in real life. Since I don't use any filters I guess the camera just doesn't handle the UV light correctly.

Here are some more pics from that series:

Yeah, a tripod is one of the best things you can do for your pics quality. I got mine quite cheaply, doesn't need to be anything fancy.

Those fans, by the way, are NOT Gelid fans.
They are Nanoxia fans. There was a big debacle because Gelid copied the Nanoxia design so blatantly and now they are no longer allowed to sell them (in Germany at least; they lost a lawsuit).
As for red/black... let's just say a little birdie might have told me about some fans coming up that might make you happy. ;) I can't disclose anything, though.

when i bought my cam, it came with a crappy tripod. i dare not mount my camera on it; which was a good thing - the 'neck' eventually broke after a few transfers here and there. :p... a better would would be next investment for me.

wah! :o my bad! but i have to admit, they are too identical to tell apart! hehe. at least nanoxia was vindicated from the incident.

as for the red and black fans... you have gotten me real excited with just a teaser statement like that! haha. now will have to wait anxiously for it!

it's the control panel; it would connect to the usual front panel headers via a connector/cable, then you can mount the control panel anywhere you want. most probably outside the case, so you don't have to open the case to access the functions. pretty nifty device... even the pcie enable/disable jumpers are there!

@Bundy: Nickel plated heatkiller looks awesome! :)

@all: The fittings are available from aquatuning.de.

Nickel black: Link (http://www.aquatuning.de/index.php/cat/c664_black-nickel.html), Link (http://www.aquatuning.de/index.php/cat/c669_black-nickel.html)
Copper: Link (http://www.aquatuning.de/index.php/cat/c664_black-nickel.html), Link (http://www.aquatuning.de/index.php/cat/c687_Copper-plated.html)
And some mixed ones: Link (http://www.aquatuning.de/index.php/cPath/50_384)

As you can see, they offer some of their own designs as well as copied Bitspower and FUFUFUFUFUFUFUFU fittings (though not copper plated). Aquatuning do ship internationally and I can organize a group buy if you are interested.

Langer, I thought I had sent you a link some time ago, since I knew you would want copper plated fittings. :)

@Langer:
Actually, I do run a store. Sort of. I run the swiss version of Aquatuning. I'm basically a subcontractor of aquatuning.de, so I don't really run the store all by myself.
Anyway, while a lot of water cooling stuff moves past me via the store, that doesn't mean I get freebies all the time or something like that.
Some of the things I get sponsored for various reviews I write and a lot of the stuff is simply purchased with cold, hard cash. Almost all of the LC-stuff I buy is for the test-rig.

As for being a water cooling god: I don't think all the hardware I could scrape together would make half a PROMETHEUS CU. :p

Nope, they are Magicool Slim 360 Radiators. Link (http://www.aquatuning.de/product_info.php/info/p1712_MagiCool-SLIM-TRIPLE-360-Radiator.html)

Cheapest rad available over here.
They are made by Eastar, who also make this identical radiator and rename it for Alphacool and Aqua Computer.
They are cheap, but from a performance/price perspective, they are actually darn good. :)

I purchased a cheapo 2x40mm Magicool rad... I'd never even so much as consider another Magicool product.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v60/Langer/PrometheusCu/prometheus-40mmradiator.jpg
Neither of the two barbs were straight.
The barbs were different sizes and neither size was the advertised size.
2x Fan holes didn't line up.
The rad also looks like a POS on close inspection.

It has about 6-6.5 fpi. Not very low but not Black Ice either.

6 fpi is damn low! maybe you mean fins per centimeter? i think the rads that have the lowest fpi are xspc rx series, which are 8 fpi

I must have gotten the conversion from cm to inches wrong then. Or I don't know what FPI stands for. Is it fins per inch or folds per inch? Because I was counting the folds.

I couldn't find a decent pic for comparing the fpi on these two rads, so this will have to make do:

thanks, the pic was perfect! Yes FPI from what i know is fins per inch. It seems to be around 20 fpi which is not low, but not that high. i will give them a try!

They are FUFUFUFUFUFUFUFU-Barbs (http://www.FUFUFUFUFUFUFUFU.com/water-cooling/product_info.php?product_id=521). They come with their own (ugly) hose clamps, which is a nice consideration on the part of FUFUFUFUFUFUFUFU.
I bought them because they have short threads, though.

I also like the type of pic where there's a "landscape of hardware" filling the entire frame. But it requires a ton of hardware.
