So I got my Viper Johns block in today & well it's no different than my Swiftech NBMAX is. plain ass flat copper bottom inside with no ridges nothing. the worst part of it all is he was charging over $100 for this POS? ha he needs his head examined! Seriously!

Just curious, and I know how it is when something doesn't meet expectations.

Other than the high price for a custom made peice, what did you expect it to be? I could be wrong, but ridges or any fluting of a base for a chipset block isn't needed. I don't think it would make a difference either way, especially since it doesn't come in direct contact with the chip itself.

What was it that led you to believe it was better than the ST block to begin with?

That's something I was wondering about with the Swiftech NBMax too. It seems to me that you could easily get a tad more performance by just adding a few channels in the base. Nothing fancy and nothing that will break the flow much, just slightly increased surface area.

The only reason I picked it up was it was on sale at ncix cheap to ad to my collection but damn for an over $100 reg priced block I expected more than what it is. it's deff not something i'd use ever in any of my builds that's for sure! I mean for the price how bloody hard would it have been to do even the slightest bit of machine work to it besides stamping out the copper drilling 4 holes in it & slapping a peice of delrin on it come on!

Exactly! Wait till you see my NBMAX after I get the machine work done to it. It'll be 10 times the block for sure with a simple bit of machining that takes barely anything to do. lol

I know my kid has my cam & I don't want to take it back so I guess I need a new one lol.

John Hillig (aka. ViperJohn) is a very intelligent man. He is a retired engineer, who was forced to retire early to care for his disabled parents.

He works out of his house in SoCal and does this for fun and profit.

I agree that he prices are a little steep and I won't be paying for him to preform anymore vmods on video cards for me.:fact: He does to nice work and is a master at soldering and volt modding.

Here is a pic of the 790i NB block and his workshop.

He does nice stuff, but it does cost. Some of his chillers look awesome, and I wanted to get one to mess around with, but he doesn't make them any more.

I don't know about anyone else, but if I were to ever do any custom mill work, I'd charge out the ass for it. I don't think it would be worth it to the guy buying it, but I'd charge for it none the less.

Viper is a really nice fellow, but I think his stuff is slightly overpriced. If I were him, I'd reduce the cost and I think he would see more demand for his parts.

That's the block I got in for my collection Red but damn it isn't anything special & I paid what it was worth if you ask me not what he was asking. it's a $20 block which is what I paid.

Oh he'll make it...... starting at @ $2,200 - $2,500...:omg:

I seriously considered one, but fuck that price. That price includes you mailing him your MB and paying him to coat it. He told me that is the only way he would consider selling me a chiller???

quite nice info you shared r3. i have more respect for john after knowing that.
i also share the same sentiment on the pricing, but i'm willing to pay for something that i really really really like. and his viperchecks... are worth it.
