<p>Who's making the jump? I have my board just waiting on ram & i920 cpu. I ordered in a Coolermaster 1250psu also just to be safe.

I've got a Gigabyte GA-X58-UD5 and i7 920 on the way.
Still have to figure out about the tri-channel RAM.

From what I've heard don't slack with the ram get something half decent. I'm getting the OCZ PC-12800 Gold Tri Channel 3x2GB 8-8-8-24 1T Kit. It's about $100 more than the G-Skill 9-9-9-24 2T kit but worth it I think. I always skimp out on ram & get the just what I need stuff so this time i'm going a step above that & see what results I can get from it.

Where are you getting the OCZ stuff?

My local shop. tad more expensive but if something is wrong it's a 15 minute drive to them rather than sending it away yet again lol.

I hear you.
I often get stuff from Canada Computers in downtown Toronto. That's about as local as it gets for me.

Seriously considering it, especially once the RIIE gets released....
ALthough, I just picked up a QX9770 and Rampage Extreme, so may want to sell that proc and mobo first... of course, probable only get a grand total now, if I'm lucky....

bei fei has my board.
I just got off the phone with him not too long ago.
Hes gonna roll out my mosfet block design, and a northbridge/southbridge block on the P6T-Deluxe.
As for i7, i dont think im gonna go crazy into it like i did with yorkfield.
Id rather play with the real i7's... Gainestown CPU's that is.
ROFL at the weaksauce title.

LOL
Anyway, i7 is looking good all around. I'm so frustrated with Canada Post. They have a strike going on and my Express shipment isn't here yet (paid for 2 day shipping and it has been 4!)

NO ES Stuff in this forum.
Ima ask you guys not to repost this outside this forum. Since its R3's forum, i'll leak some NDA stuff to you guys as long as you promise me nothing will leave this forum.
Zero NDA talk. Zero NDA Info. No ES photos allowed, ever.
Xmas = uber fun for me... no joke...
Good for you NAekuh. But NO NDA talk
Guys i asked BEI for extra parts on the P6T-Deluxe. He will have my parts ready by next week, as well as the extras.
Its first come first server, so i recomend you contacting Chad, Bei Fei on XS, if you want P6T Parts.
Good for you, and good for Bei Fei.

Wow...that's insane.
I love it! :D
How do those chips differ from the 965?
I'm as excited as you are, but just relax on the Gainestown talk in here.
NAekuh
11-22-2008, 12:57 PM
965 = 1 x QPI
So you cant really pair them.
The 2 x QPI chips were ment to be paired.
You can use gainestown chips in a X58, however you cant use a 965 inside a gainestown board because the 965 is only 1 x QPI.
This is how i think intel drew its line from server vs high end desktop.
And NO NDA talk.

So 2xQPI will pump through even more bandwidth?

Ok...but one thing.
Talking about the technology's ok, right?
I mean, it's not secret that the chips are being made the way they are. We know the Nehalem architecture is modular.
I just want to know where the line is.
The info about Gainestown having an extra QPI is on Wikipedia, for example.
Ricey
11-22-2008, 04:21 PM
Fine.. talk about technology is just fine. The line is crossed when a signatory to a Non-Disclosure Contract talks about equipment, whether or not the information is in public domain.
Its called honoring a contract, and RRR and I expect signatories to contracts to abide by them.
And I did bother to type out a super long post. Its not that I enjoy reading what I write, or enjoy typing out rules. I don't want to have to bother with reiterating rules. RRR wants ES equipment and alpha software off his forum. This is his forum. He makes the decisions. No doubt that he's being advised by me, but this forum belongs to RRR.
zlojack
11-22-2008, 04:24 PM
That's understood. Thanks!
He shouldn't be in breach of contract to talk about information that's already known. He just can't reveal anything further.
I'm no lawyer and the US legal system is especially weird, but you would think that it's not a breach of contract.
Err.. Its not what you think. Its not what I think. Our opinions do not matter.
NDA in legalise means Zip it.. as in STFU about anything and everything, even if the info is posted on the front page of every newspaper in the country.
Thanks for your opinion of the US legal system, but Intel is an American corporation that signs contracts enforceable under US civil code.

yes, as from their site.
"The EX58-UD5 is the latest high performance X58 Series motherboards of GIGABYTE, designed from the ground up to unleash the awesome power of Intel’s new Core i7 processors. Equipped with a host of new features including the new QPI interface, 3 channel DDR3 support, 3 Way SLI™ and CrossFireX™ support, Ultra Durable 3 technology and the industry’s most extensive range of overclocking features, the EX58-UD5 is bringing excitement back into the high performance motherboard industry."

Zlojack...
No offense, but I personally don't like the "blue" MB of the GB...
zlojack
11-24-2008, 10:44 AM
None taken!
I'm not the biggest fan of the colours either (though it's a heck of a lot better than their old colour scheme!)
That said, I decided to go with the board that had the feature set and performance indicators and this board has them. The Ultra Durable gimmick may end up being a great thing. I don't think it's a coincidence that the P45-UD3P is one of the best boards for clocking 45nm quads, hands down.
Anyway, we'll see how it goes. I'm still tempted to have a look at the EVGA X58 FTW Edition (which would have the NF200 switch on it to allow for full 16x tri-SLI) when it comes to market.
The only thing about this board is, I might have to alter my red lighting scheme for some blue. :D
bigslappy
11-24-2008, 12:06 PM
I don't like the blue & other colors on the GigaBytes either but I got to SAY my UD3-P ROCKS big OVER clocks for $100 bucks vs a Asus for $300 which will not hit 500fsb & I goona have blue lighting any way soo u can't really see the blue PCB under blue UV anyway

I think the EVGA platform is great for Nvidia video card users. Tri SLI is possible.
Asus Rampage II pisses me off. The last slot covers the usb, firewire ports etc., plus you need a 10 slot case with that mobo if you want to go tri sli. The NB physically blocks a x-fi pci-e sound card as well. Stupid design.
Sniper
11-25-2008, 07:17 PM
Your right Ricey but the pci sound card that comes with the board is a fairly good quality as it is also made by X-Fi as well. I used the one on my Striker II Formula & couldn't tell the diff at all from my Extreme Gamer. But yes I agree the layout could be better.
zlojack
11-25-2008, 07:18 PM
I'm with you on that one, Ricey.
The EVGA still gives problems for a soundcard, though.
I'm going to go with single-slot cards in mine to offset the issue of not having enough slots in my case.
BFG makes a single-slot watercooled card (I just ordered one)
If all goes well, two more might just be on the way. I'm worried the store I'm getting them from might have screwed up the price, because they cost about the same as a regular 280 does at other shops.
Ricey
11-25-2008, 07:32 PM
Yes, I wished more manufacturers besides DD and K* offer decent true single slot water blocks. The EK is like playing Russian Roulette with a hand grenade.
zlojack
11-25-2008, 07:45 PM
Yeah, it really is nice.
I can do tri-SLI with a soundcard and fit it all into my H2GO!

So, I'm wondering about mobo's....
Which one to get, Asus RIIE or EVGA? I currently have the Rampage Extreme for my 9770, and it was totally unstable till I set the FSB at 401, rather than AUTO. Personally, I don't like boards that won't run well with everything set to AUTO. I'm still learning how to OC with intel, and still don't know what everything is. I'd like to run everything AUTO to get it up and running, then OC if I so desire.
I'm not going to be running 3 GPUs, using Crossfire with 2 4870x2s. Seems like the RIIE has a bunch of bells and whistles, but off the top of my head, don't recall if there is another x1 slot for my X-fi card.
I think I'll be trying to find some reviews today of the boards. the egg was really no help with the customer reviews of either board.
Or, should I consider a different board.
Would like to be able to add blocks to the NB/SB and don't know who has what out there right now....
ON a separate note. Did I read correctly that the EK FC blocks are NOT single slot solutions? If so, please tell me NOW, so I don't find out after everything is put together and I can't reuturn it, or sell it easily.
Thanks,
Breezyjr

Unless you're into hardcore benching, the RIIE is a bit excessive, IMO.
You might want to look at the P6T.
The layout for some of these boards is weird for using 2 or 3 cards.
There isn't much out there yet in terms of blocks, but I have to think it's coming fast.
