How close do you have to get for it to count as macro?
I only have almost-macros because I lack a proper macro lens...

Eternal: I'm sorry but I can't really say whether the memory overclocks well or not. I only used it very briefly.
It performs very nicely due to CL4 and the red LED (dragon's eyes) are very bright. :)

Smee, u seem pretty knowledgeable in photography for this question...
I lack the money for a good macro so i was wondering how those "close-up" macro filters are. The ones that shorten the minimum focusing distance and such.
If they work well, i might grab some with my Polarizer and Warming etc.

I take it you are talking about Extension Tubes?
I haven't personally tested these, but I think I will in the near future....
This is a guide I've found on Extension Tubes:
http://www.neilcreek.com/blog/2007/11/10/about-macro-extension-tubes-p365-nov03/
I say, if your not really looking to spend an arm and a leg for a good macro lens, Extension Tubes are for you.
If your main goal is just to have some fun with macro but really your main photography personality is outdoors, portraits etc... then Extension Tubes are for you.
If your really looking to get some very high quality macro shots, and do it ALL the time, then I'd suggest looking at a good macro lens.
My 2 cents.

I'm unsure if they have any draw backs...ill have to do some google searching when i get some time (stupid essay)

Here are a bunch of macro shots from Yellowstone National Park taken on vacation recently. These were all hand held (no tripod) with quite a bit of wind blowing the subjects around...not easy to get focused shots.
I love the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS and so does my 12 year old son who took most of these pictures. We need to work on the depth-of-field though to get more of the shot in focus.
Sorry there are so many, but hard to chop down any more from these as there were such diversity and bugs!

Wow..nice!
FYI, if anyone is interested in Macro possibilities without spending tons of money, you should consider some Kenko Extension tubes.
For about $100, you can use them on any lens and really reduce the minimum focusing distance. I like using mine on the 50mm prime, works really well and will get you to 0 distance min focusing for huge magnifications.
I think they are a worthwhile buy and a good mod for your existing lenses.

Yes, focus get's pretty wacked out with extension tubes, but the min/max focusing distance gets so small, I find I usually focus by moving to/from the subject anyhow.

Extension tubes definitely are good value. I started with a 60mm macro, but I had to be too close to the subject and would scare off the bug or whatever. The 100mm helped a lot in this department. Even on a cropped camera this would be a minimum recommended focal length in regards to working distance.

My first macrto shots with my new Nikkor - Micro 105mm f/2.8G IF-ED AF-S VR...:crack:
It was windy outside and I really need to use my tripod for 1:1 shots, moving a single mm throws everything out of focus. It was very overcast outside today, so not a lot of light.

My cable shutter release should be here today, so I'll be dropping this puppy on my tripod and using the shutter release to get some macro work in.
Looking to buy a second tripod that can get close to the ground and has a arm that can be mounted parallel to the ground, to get better low level close-ups...:crack:

I might have to upload some of my crappy point and shoot macro shots here of some native flowers I took the other day.
