Quick 5 min render before the overnight render :)

Wow wtf, it takes you overnight to render something? o.o

bentleya
12-28-2008, 02:50 PM
yer thats the only problem :( stupid free programs and stupid macbook :(

Cutless009
12-28-2008, 02:58 PM
All my renders are done on a macbook, and the longest one ever took 2.5 hours and it was the final render of Elegance D:

oh shit... i like it. sli/xfire capable as well. can i get the dimensions? im just wondering who thick it is.

EDIT: its FITS forum challenge hahah! i hope red doesnt get pissed.

10mm :)

Fitseries3
12-28-2008, 03:32 PM
my only worry would be that the water channels would need to be wide enough to allow sufficient flow. what do you guys think?

bentleya

my only worry would be that the water channels would need to be wide enough to allow sufficient flow. what do you guys think?

yer ;) but if you made it a derlin/actel top or copper you could make them narrower :crack:

Fitseries3
12-28-2008, 03:36 PM
well... screw acrylic then. delrin/acetal is easier to work with when its that thin anyways.

is there any way for you to see if the rectangular port size is the same as the barb size?(does that make sense?)

bentleya
12-28-2008, 03:40 PM
so 12mm, 12mm = 144mm2 20 need to make a retangle with 144mm2

Fitseries3
12-28-2008, 03:44 PM
would something close to that fit in your design?

bentleya
12-28-2008, 03:51 PM
well if i make it 9mm x 15mm, and have 2mm on the top i woud need 4mm on the bottom, for the deign to work could the block be 15mm tall?

Fitseries3
12-28-2008, 04:17 PM
i think 11mm - 12mm is absolute max for single slot on a bare gpu. if the gpu has a IHS i'd think 10mm would be max.

bentleya
12-28-2008, 04:22 PM
ok well its 40mm from the inside to inside, you need a channel in there plus a o ring so a gap of 8 is needed so if i make it 50mm - 8 = 42mm/2 = 21, 21 times 5 is = 105mm2 which still is'nt engough so if i go 6 x 21 i get = 126 which i could live with :)

Fitseries3
12-28-2008, 04:24 PM
make them wider?

bentleya
12-28-2008, 04:26 PM
well it would be to wide, well inside of my compession fitting here is 10mm so in thery i only need a squared area of 100mm2 which i could do :)

EDIT: what file does your mill software need? or is it manual ?

Fitseries3
12-28-2008, 05:03 PM
mastercam. any version.

bentleya
12-28-2008, 05:04 PM
so file format is?

Fitseries3
12-28-2008, 05:11 PM
mc7
mc8
mc9
mcx

i can use any file you send over. i'll have to optimize it for the milling process anyway.

bentleya
12-28-2008, 05:13 PM
ooo ok :) well that's drawn in sketchup but i can draw in auto cad prob, i'm a noob in it tho :) if you can take a sketchup file a re draw it be best :)

What exactly is the challenge you guys are meeting?

cutless... i have a challenge for you if your up for it.

design a gpu only block that can fit in a single slot spec. make sure its universal to most video cards as well.

i've been trying to come up with one for over a year.

Fitseries3
12-28-2008, 05:25 PM
if you have sketchup pro you can save as a autocad file.

bentleya
12-28-2008, 05:27 PM
yer i do have pro, but it dos'nt export very well, well i'll try it

as i don't know how to do some of the angle stuff that would be in the finaly version

and what is the smallest milling bit you have got? so i know about the fins :)

Fitseries3
12-28-2008, 05:28 PM
i can get any end mill we need to get it done :)

bentleya

ooo cool then, then this is not a problem, so for heat sinks you would use a iandh style kit :) :crack:

Fitseries3
12-29-2008, 02:48 PM
i talked to the machinist.....

he said get the final design and send it over. should be a few weeks before we could have one to test. i'll give you one for free for the design of course.

cool :) i will finsh the design on thrusday :) and sort some stuff out with you before that :)

just a thought, but if you made a small lip around the edge, you could integrate the heat sink into the cooling capacity just like some of the FC blocks for the mofsets.
That way you buy the universal block and the heat sink to suit the card, or use your own heat sinks if you just want the block.

bentleya
12-30-2008, 01:35 PM
i forgot you did that render Evil, i was having insperation from blast flow tho :)

been trying for last 4 hours to get the near final drawing but trying to acommadate for most blocks means the hole spacing is getting tight and harder to draw :(

GTX 260/280: 61mm X 61mm
8800GTS/GTX (G80 Cores): 58.5mm X 58.5mm
NV, 7,8,9 Series: 53.5mm X 53.5mm
ATI, 1, 2, 3, 4 Series: 53.5mm X 53.5mm
4870X2: 43.81mm X 43.81mm
3870X2: 42.5mm X 42.5mm

But i may skip out on the 3870x2 and the 4870x2 cos then it would be better cooling for the other blocks, and i'm not sure two of these would fit on a card :)

Reasons why Evil's renders look real:

HDRI lighting/reflections
Good materials
Most Important: DOF Pass used in PS to add photographic blur.

GJ man, I can do it, but, fuck if I have the patience.

if these are made, i'd definitely get a couple to test. they look awesome. great job you guys!

Fit's i have now got it all drawn up if you pm your email i will attach them to the email and send to you, i will send 6 files, sketchup version of each one, and a DWG file of each one.

One file for the copper bottom, one for top an Derlin d one for acrylic top for the testers :)

So, what's the thickness of each layer? It doesn't look 1/2" thick to me.

bentleya
01-07-2009, 05:05 PM
6mm on the copper, as it has a stepped base, so 5mm above the step and then 5mm for the top :)

Will they be available for sale?

Also, looks like there's a short-circuit in there, no? Maybe a delrin/ acrylic extension to seal it off?

did you manage to get protos made fits?

Fitseries3
01-15-2009, 03:57 PM
working on the dteks.

the price on these is going to be pretty high. machine cost that is.

we are looking at about $65 - $70 each just to make.

the design may have to change a bit as well. we cant get the pin structure milled that close to the outer wall.

any ideas? we were thinking of a U shaped pattern.

nafljhy
01-15-2009, 08:09 PM
you could take out some pins that are closer to the wall right?

You, could do, also the top part may be to long so that may need to be smaller.

You could try this fits?

still workin on this. dont loose faith in me.

aaron...

can you draw me up something please?

im thinking of a ddc top that threads onto an ek res. d5 is a possibility as well as iwaki if you feel like drawing them up.

;)

thanks
